(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain won the Western Conservative Summit 2011 Denver Presidential Straw Poll Sunday, 35 points ahead of second-place finisher Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who has yet to announce a bid for the White House.
Cain, the former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza and radio host, received 48 percent followed by Perry with 13 percent; former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania with 10 percent and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann with 9 percent. Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton, who has said he will decide about a 2012 bid by September, received 4 percent. The other declared and non-declared candidates garnered fewer than 4 percent support.
Perry, Santorum, Cain and Bolton all spoke at the summit.
Five hundred and eight ballots were cast at the three-day conference organized by the Centennial Institute at the Colorado Christian University, which works toward public awareness of faith, family and freedom.
Event organizer John Andrews said the Denver Straw poll is the “first test of 2012 presidential preferences among grassroots activists in Colorado and the Western states.”
On his Twitter account, Cain said he was “honored” to learn of his win.
How exciting!!!!!! Yawn......
A Christian Institute organized this and look who Cain was up against.....???? Don't count your chickens before they hatch and don't stop flipping pizzas!!!
So the people of Denver vote for a bigot, good to know, I won't be spending any tourism dollars there.
News Flash. TEA party favorite Herman Cain once again rearranges the deck chairs on the Titanic. In the meantime, the band plays on.......
Big deal. Doesn't mean a thing.
This guy beats Bachmann and Palin put together, hands down !!! He makes the rest of the cons look silly.
AND, if he get the Republican nomination and runs and the cons complain, it will prove they lied when they said their hatred of Obama wasn;t racial. Of course, we all know they lied, but this'll be the proof. BTW, Sarah and Michelle, they are women haters, too. You'll never get the nomination.
Enjoy it while you can cain because after the debacle on the Hill I doubt very much that anyone is going to be paying attention to the 60 new teabagging members of congress who have helped and been instrumental of blackmailing the country.
These are the same people who would rather default on our debts (including the MN flake) as the deadbeats that they all are.
If this is really who you want as your GOP candidate in 2012, God help you all.
I'm afraid when Cain decided to offer an olive branch to the Muslims that he has insulted the past few months, he may have lost his Tea Party backing. He was saying the kind of stuff they like to hear then but to APOLIGIZE to them for being wrong just is not Tea Party material. Cain wasn't going to get the GOP nomination anyway so no loss really.
Seems like Cain is starting to gain traction with his campaign. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets picked to be the GOP nominee this coming presidential elections. He has a good track record having been the CEO of a highly successful business. This country is in dire need of someone like him so we can get back to being the number 1 nation once again.
I'll probably get some blow back from this but this article is terrifying. Honestly terrifying!
Colorado conservatives are idiots and out of the mainstream. Obama will win.
The GOP only votes for whoever shows up? No Romney, Bachmannn, Huntsman, Gingrich, Palin, Pawlenty, etc. 500 Denver Christian conservatives don't mean squat in the grand scheme of things.
Oh Goody. I hope he keeps winning. Will force the Republican Black American haters rethink their feelings about Black Americans in the White House. Will suddenly see a down turn of anti Black sentiment. But won't that leave the far right reeling in pain
As we all know straw polls mean very little, if it did Mitt, not Mccain would have lost against Obama........
Being the most qualified Republican candidate is kind of like being the tallest leprechaun.
so this is a win for no one really.
I like Cain but I'm afraid Santorum will end up all over him.
And straw polls mean what?
Oh goodie goodie!!!
Who votes in these straw polls? GOP donors? I don't think they speak for the majority of americans. Ron Paul 2012!
Who voted and how big was the poll, was it just a Tea Part office I think so!
I would like to buy a vowel becase O my God. Where do they dig these people up? I can't think of anything to write. I will have to go back and ponder this a while.
wow, I would never vote for this loser
