A Lucifer Panini?

Washington (CNN) – It's not likely to be found on any Washington-area menus soon. Congressional Black Caucus chair Emanuel Cleaver blasted the final debt deal brokered between congressional leadership and President Obama on Twitter as a "Satan sandwich" Monday.

"This deal is a sugar-coated Satan sandwich," he said. "If you lift the bun, you will not like what you see."

The four-term Missouri Democrat continued his Twitter diatribe against the deal to raise the amount of money the nation can borrow and make a down payment on the federal deficit saying, "This debt deal is antithetical to everything the great religions of the world teach, which is take care of the poor, aged, vulnerable."

A Satan sandwich is not a tasty deal, Cleaver affirmed during an interview on CNN's "The Situation Room." And it's worse when it's been sprinkled with Potomac River water.

The deal provides for a bi-partisan congressional committee tasked with making long-term fiscal reforms that may include spending cuts as well as tax revenues. If the committee does not come to an agreement by the end of the year, a congressional vote on adding a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution will take place. If the amendment is not passed, massive cuts to defense spending and entitlement programs will be made, hitting key programs for both Democrats and Republicans.

Cleaver was especially irked by this provision, tweeting, "A special 'super Congress' to provide recs on cuts but not increases? Who said what we need in Washington is another committee?"

He's so irked that leading up to the House vote Cleaver was undecided about which way he'd vote and unclear about the road forward in Congress.

"I think we've got to figure out how we continue to govern in an atmosphere like we have here where everybody is nasty to each other and there's no compromise," he said. "We're here in Washington having fact-free debates."

Frustrated with what he views as a lack of any Democratic wins in the deal, Cleaver continued, "Republicans got everything they wanted out of this deal. They got everything they wanted except for the Democratic donkey."

The Satan sandwich may be absent from menus for now, but the not-so-tasty treat lives–on Twitter. It is now today's version of the Bronx Zoo snake with its own Twitter handle, @SatanSandwich, and it's own tweets: "Remember. If you don't pass me, people get hurt. If you do pass me, people get hurt. Hey... #WinWin."

Mr. Emanuel, you're just dislusional and misled and you're an an incompetent idiot. Let's face it. there's only so much president Obama can do to get passage of resolution in Washington admist the deliberate roadblocks and division by the GOP. Furthermore, Mr. Emanuel or whatever your frigging name is, president Obama does not possess the ability to walk on water or make the sun shine or rain fall from the heavens. No that is God's job. And though president Obama is an articulate and gifted president by every means of the word, the reality is that he is not God. In other words Mr. Emanuel, president Obama does not have the ability to hypnotize or control the minds of the politicians in congress.

Furthermore, when our Founding Fathers created our system of checks and balances and a two party system,, the main objective here was not for one party to prevent the other party from getting legislation passed but rather for both parties to compromise and find common ground to move the country forward and serve the American people. And since president Obama has been in office, that is what he has done. That is finding common ground that's in the interest of the American people. And if you have a problem with president Obama's leadership Mr. Emanuel, then you can always join the Tea Party or move to Alaska.

You can't take care of all those Dem constituencies if the bottom falls out of the economy, Congressman.

Regardless of what you call it, the deal isn't very good for either side. Perhaps holding the countries debt limit hostage isn't such a good thing after all. I think we will find that the Bush tax cuts and price of the wars we have been engaged in that past 10 years will ultimately cost America its social security, medicare and medicaid programs. Question is, will congress stop investing in our future? They are headed towards that now.

Well, it's no "Death Panel" or "Death Tax" or "ObamaCare", but at least one Dem is trying to be creative. It will take a while before they can match the GOP knack for coming up with killer descriptors.

What a bad time to be cutting consumer spending, each billion dollars cuts means hundreds even thousands of jobs lost, because money is tied so close with American workers, even fraud money is tied to American workers, every dime is connected to the people at the bottom. the only money that is not connected to work, is the rich at the top, because most of that money is saving money and it so plentiful that if they lose some they won't even notice, and these are the ones the repugs wont even bother. when you attack the spenders on the bottom who drives the economy and demand you are about to create a big economical catastrophe. Who is going to support moms and pops stores now, how will local businesses survive when you cut out their local customers. Where are these repugs getting their voodoo economics from, or is it their soul reason is to tank this economy just to see obama fail.

Sounds a lot like something Hugo Chavez would say doesn't it. But then that is like democrat liberals. Don't worry, the dope addicts got good news from the Obozo corruption yesterday, decent, hardworking American taxpayers will now be paying for the birth control so that the non working, non educated democrat liberal supporters can continue to buy their $150 sneakers and 54" color TV's without having to take any personal responsibility for their lives. Yay Obozo, more corruption and theft from hard working American taxpayers.

I thought the GOP dominated the mantel of the kooky religious references, looks like the Dems are finally doing something even if it's stupid satan sandwich comments. I imagine once they pull their pants up from the spanking they just took they will join some of the unhinged teabaggers in the congressional chapel

The comments I read from persons who must be Repuiblicans show how demented the Part of NO has become.. If they were Christians like they claim they would know they they got nothing on their own and what theyhave can be taken away: "The Lord has given and the Lord can take it away. Blessed be the name of the Lord." So maybe you all should stop be so arrogant, stingy, mean spirited, and hateful like the good Repubs you are, and practice what your Bible says.

The right seriously needs to grow up. I always more or less thought of myself as a conservative until a few years ago. According to the definition of conservative I find these people pretty much the opposite....it's ALWAYS "You know...Citizens of American...Jesus loves America..and you! Satan loves Obama! Obama is rooted in the bible as the defeater of America.....Let us turn our bibles to page 384 under 'The Constitution Of The USA' "

Cleaver = Cantor; They may be from different political parties but they are cut from the same cloth. Both behave like little spoiled brats. They have no capacity for compromise or sharing. They may be at opposite ends of the political spectrum but they are the poster kids for what is wrong with Washington.

Mr. Emmanuel Cleaver!, did you know the ingredients before this lucifer Panini was made? "Congressional Black Caucus chair Emanuel Cleaver blasted the final debt deal brokered between congressional leadership and President Obama on Twitter as a "Satan sandwich". To be sincere it just shows you are not clever enough to realize that, you are adding new vocabulary to the Republican think tank!.

The reason the Democrats are where they are now in Congress is because they can't seem to stick together and get things DONE!! See, it is all about Perception in the world we live in today and once you have mastered the nuances of being able to do it, the world is at your command. Example, the President Healthcare plan debates, they had the majority in both houses however what did they do, bicker among each other as oppose to just passing what the people and President wanted!!! Example two last years budget as oppose to passing what they wanted, they were worried about political fall out, the problem here is that their goose was already cooked because of the issues of passing the Healthcare bill, so why not do what you want and go out with a budget that satisfied what the Democrats wanted!! I say it all the time, the GOP main goal is to serve the rich, they have no ideas for the average American, they know how to bait poor Americans into thinking they are looking out for their best interests, they constantly, give the impression they are on the middle America side but not, and therefore they give the perception that they are a united front all the time!!

I can only speak for Christianity. Christianity teaches that the government has one job: protect people. Not provide for the people. This is also what the Constitution says. If Mr Cleaver understood that... if more of his colleagues understodd that, we wouldn't have this problem right now.

Larry L is right. Also, pay attention to this statement that Cleaver made:

"If the committee does not come to an agreement by the end of the year, a congressional vote on adding a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution will take place. If the amendment is not passed, massive cuts to defense spending and entitlement programs will be made, hitting key programs for both Democrats and Republicans."

Here's the bottom line: liberals believe that it is the government's responsibility to provide for a large segment of the population, and that it's not a good thing for anyone to be rich. That's it. No amount of compromise will ever change that fact.

The good thing is that now that we've all had a chance to watch Congress in action, the 2012 election will be a true referendum on what kind of country we want.
