A Lucifer Panini?

Washington (CNN) – It's not likely to be found on any Washington-area menus soon. Congressional Black Caucus chair Emanuel Cleaver blasted the final debt deal brokered between congressional leadership and President Obama on Twitter as a "Satan sandwich" Monday.

"This deal is a sugar-coated Satan sandwich," he said. "If you lift the bun, you will not like what you see."

The four-term Missouri Democrat continued his Twitter diatribe against the deal to raise the amount of money the nation can borrow and make a down payment on the federal deficit saying, "This debt deal is antithetical to everything the great religions of the world teach, which is take care of the poor, aged, vulnerable."

A Satan sandwich is not a tasty deal, Cleaver affirmed during an interview on CNN's "The Situation Room." And it's worse when it's been sprinkled with Potomac River water.

The deal provides for a bi-partisan congressional committee tasked with making long-term fiscal reforms that may include spending cuts as well as tax revenues. If the committee does not come to an agreement by the end of the year, a congressional vote on adding a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution will take place. If the amendment is not passed, massive cuts to defense spending and entitlement programs will be made, hitting key programs for both Democrats and Republicans.

Cleaver was especially irked by this provision, tweeting, "A special 'super Congress' to provide recs on cuts but not increases? Who said what we need in Washington is another committee?"

He's so irked that leading up to the House vote Cleaver was undecided about which way he'd vote and unclear about the road forward in Congress.

"I think we've got to figure out how we continue to govern in an atmosphere like we have here where everybody is nasty to each other and there's no compromise," he said. "We're here in Washington having fact-free debates."

Frustrated with what he views as a lack of any Democratic wins in the deal, Cleaver continued, "Republicans got everything they wanted out of this deal. They got everything they wanted except for the Democratic donkey."

The Satan sandwich may be absent from menus for now, but the not-so-tasty treat lives–on Twitter. It is now today's version of the Bronx Zoo snake with its own Twitter handle, @SatanSandwich, and it's own tweets: "Remember. If you don't pass me, people get hurt. If you do pass me, people get hurt. Hey... #WinWin."

The same can be said of the entitlement society you've turned this country into.

I truly am dissapointed in President Obama, I felt that he capitulated too much and got zero in return. But to hear people compare the Health Care bill and the debt celing fight shows why the U.S. may never recover its former glory.
One was an issue that previous to the 2008 election was listed as a top three concern for 80 of the electorate, the other was a artificially generated crisis that risked a global economic collapse.
One is humanitarian the other is purile and selfishness at its worst.
Every modern industralized country in the world has a national health care system, yet in 2011 90% of the U.S. popluation is one car accident, or cancer diagnosis away from being destitue but over half the population is against having a health care system.
Nearly 1 out of 5 people didn't want to raise the debt celing at all, after seeing a similiar situation in 2008 with Lehman Bros. which tanked the stock market and nearly led us into a depression.
I truly do not understand what has happened to us as a country, we pay no attention to history or each other's views. There is no longer a sense of the greater good, only I must get mine and screw the rest of the world.

Upping the stupid factor, Pelosi called debt deal, "a satan sandwich with an order of satan fries on the side." She is truly an ignorant, confused old woman.

I don’t’ think that the people have any idea what they are up against when they decide they are going with the republicans. All this start when bush increase the tax for rich and give them credit to take away the factories and all the manufactures over sea, when he told them government won’t care what you do with your money even if it means you breaks the rules, when he gave the insurance company the right to do what ever they want including scamming the their clients after so many years. Now we are on this disaster and we have obama, but that is a big no no, how can this be a democrats and a black man from Africa? Don’t’ ask me how he got elected maybe desperations but most people expected miracles they expected him to be super man other wise he has no business to be in white house. He doesn’t need their help and supports. He did need every one supports who put him up there in the first place he needed every one hands so he can deliver on what he promise but all the doors are shut, he is all alone up there with few people that supports him, he needed us to be there with all the way since the beginning but voters turns their back because they didn’t see the miracles they were hoping to see, I don’t know maybe a white light or something, I do believe most of the people who voted for him are intelligent but how came thy don’t see what is going on? How come they are not behind him now? He is still fighting for American and our next generations he is not fighting for nothing but that but all the roads are blocks by who we voted for in November the house republican blocked everything and now he is faced in the corner where he has to make a decision for the American people he chose the less evil, and we are turning around and hating him for it. I am not sure I understand the liberal and democrat group. They are asking him to be god. He is not god he is a human a great president that we ever have, one day the world will know that and Americans will know that.

well perhaps the BEST thing that came out of this is that Americans can see what the Tea Party and some of the GOP is really about.....it's not country first for sure. To back this up you hear so many GOPers talking about "their victory" and not what is really best for the American people. The American people wanted a shared sacrifice with us all sharing the pain from top to bottom...and the GOP made sure it's the middle to the bottom that gets all the pain. So they can keep their sandwich.....I'll show how hungry I am come next election time.

He represents tax recipients not tax payers and no doubt believes that your take home is what 's yours after government gets what it wants(in other word what you made is theirs not your). Contrast that with the view that your earnings are yours and government must justify its expenditures. Charity is personal except for Democrats who believe in giving away other people money rather than their own. For 50 years since LBJ we've had demonstrated over and over again the utter failure of welfare to bring anyone up. Lets try to create some jobs that will give people pride rather than enslaving them with welfare. For 50 years Government redistribution of wealth has not worked and provides an almost perfect example of insanity-doing the same thing over and over and each time expecting different results. Perhaps he is an expert as the policies of the left are ruining the country while accomplishing little else. It's time for government to get out of the way.

I thought Democrats were for the separation of Church and State? Now they are invoking Christianity, Jesus and all sorts of religious stuff. I guess they can be religious when it suits their purpose, but don't try to mention the Bible or pray in school.

Dems only care about separation of church and state when it comes to minimizing and silencing Christianity; that's what we get for having the audacity to oppose abortion and gay marriage.

Yeah, this is extremely disappointing. All of you GOP that keep saying that the GOP were trying to compromise, you're off your rocker! I don't know what YOUR definition of compromise may be, but compromise means that you put everything on the table. If you know that you're not giving in on something else the person wants, then there's no compromising occurring. It takes 2. And the GOP fought tooth and nail to keep all of the tax breaks to the richest individuals, and wealthiest organizations in the US. Because according to you, they create JOBS, right?

Well explain this one to me, how is it that just a few days ago, HSBC made a couple of BILLIONS in profits as a company, and then annouced that they will be laying of 10,000's from their company? You know why? Because all they'll end up doing is the same thing most rich people in America have been doing, outsource positions for cheaper labor so that they keep more in their own pocket!

And as far as the audacity that someone is trying to take rich people's money, huh? How did reach people get their Bush implemented tax breaks? Not out of thin air, through tax PAYERS in America! So to make it seem like someone is, taking something from you is beyond pretentious and arrogant. Those tax breaks were for the purpose of creating jobs, and it's been proven that they have not, nor have ever created jobs for the majority of America. But they have made rich people richer with more of poor people's money.

Yeah, this is certainly a sandwich that no one will want to open up to see what it's made of, let alone have the nerve to take a bite out of.

  12. Who cares?

So let me get this straight. His alternative would be to raise taxes so we can keep giving handouts to his constituents who vote for him and Obama. No cuts to entitlements period? I hope he chokes on his satan sandwich.

Hello people....spending is actually going to INCREASE each year over the next 10 years. Our deficit will still be an additional 10 Trillion. This didn't hurt anyone, they cut about 100 Billion a year...that is NOTHING. The PIG BOOK which is published every year gives us 20+ billion in wasteful nonsense programs we can cut, we lose 70-100 billion a year on medicare fraud. We can easily cut that much a year without hurting anyone....have you ever heard of the Mohair subsidy?? why are we paying for nonsense like that. You liberals need to stop whining and act like if we spend 1 dollar less grandma will suddenly have to eat dog food. Its a ridiculous argument, and makes you all look foolish.

The reason Mississippi is so poor is because its run by liberals like this idiot. If they had a pro business approach to taxation and jobs, they would be rolling in money, jobs and have the best schools in the nation like my state, Virginia.
We suffered through 4 years of a Democrat recently, spent ourselves into the red, reduced our job growth. But we recently elected an excellent Governor, who has us back in the black, is fixing up our roads, and finding new ways of bringing revenue into the state successfully. Every other week I hear about another large compnay moving here from California because they are getting taxed to death. Meanwhile, the county I live in ( Arlington ) has a 3.5% unemployment rate, lowest in the nation!
Grow up people, get the right people in office and get these tax/spend jokers out!

  20. Huh?

So... um.... this guy is WHO exactly again? Oh, right... an Affirmitave Action "elected" member of something called a Black Caucus, which tells me they just invented a position for a black man to have. Just like when I was in high school we always had to have a *special* black homecoming queen in addition to whomever actually got voted for, just so things would be "even" and "fair." All this garbage coming from the mouth of a man who lives solely on a position created for him by the Man who he constantly slaps in the face. In other words, his thoughts, speech, and opinions mean absolutely nothing. "Pay no attention to the loud mouth standing in front of the curtain blocking you from getting true information from the wizard." It's a reference: If you don't got it, get it. If you can't get it, figure it out.

Yep. We need to make sure we keep the poor poior. Lord know we don't want to mess with any social programs to make them think they might go out and take advantage of opportunities. Make sure we keep them on the gubment tit so we can keep their votes, keep them uneducated, and keep them dependent. After all, they are "entitled" to it. So sad.

I don't care if you are Dem or Repub, or Tea....we are all AMERICANS and something has to be done about this....we can't just keep racking up the debt......

    August 2, 2011 02:33 pm at 2:33 pm |

And just when is CNN and the rest of the MSM going to report on the Vice President of the United States calling honest, hardworking Americans who are only interested in cutting wasteful gov't spending and keeping taxes at current levels "TERRORISTS"?? Imagine the press outrage if Cheney had done anything even a fraction that revolting?
