
Washington (CNN) - An unidentified man who jumped the White House fence on Tuesday was apprehended by uniformed Secret Service officers who approached him with guns drawn.
The incident was broadcast live on CNN's "John King USA" program, which was produced from the North Lawn of the White House on Tuesday night.

Tampa, Florida (CNN) - As he dashed between fundraisers during a two-day visit to Florida, Republican presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty paused to meet with voters and set about trashing the debt ceiling agreement signed by President Barack Obama on Tuesday.
The former Minnesota governor called the last-minute framework "very disappointing" and faulted Congressional leaders in both parties for not doing enough to confront the underlying federal debt crisis.

Washington (CNN) – It didn’t take very long for the House of Representatives to get out of Dodge. Within minutes of passing the debt ceiling legislation Monday night, they adjourned until Sept. 7. The August-plus-a-week-of-September recess has begun. Those members who could still get out of Washington Monday night bolted to Reagan National, Dulles or Baltimore/Washington Airport. The others waited until Tuesday.
Now that the Senate has passed the legislation, the senators are doing the exact same thing – rushing to get out of Washington for five weeks.

Nashua, New Hampshire (CNN) - Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty must do well in an upcoming Iowa straw poll, his wife said Tuesday, telling CNN she is "cautiously optimistic" about his prospects in that contest.
"He needs to move from where he's been and show significant progress, but I'm reasonably confident we're going to see that good progress," said Mary Pawlenty of her husband's chances in the Ames straw poll August 13th.

(CNN) - It's been three hours and Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, is already getting hammered from the right over her vote to increase the debt ceiling.
Scott D'Amboise, a conservative Republican who's vying for Snowe's Senate seat, e-mailed his supporters Tuesday accusing the moderate three-term senator of having "lied to us."

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) - The debt ceiling deal President Barack Obama enacted Tuesday cuts deficits and lets the country avert default. But it is getting very muted applause from serious fiscal experts - the ones who actually understand the federal budget.
"No one should pretend that they have solved anything other than an artificial political crisis," said Bob Bixby, executive director of the Concord Coalition, a nonpartisan deficit watchdog group.
