Gas tax may be next tea party target

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) - You may want to consider investing in some good shock absorbers for your car this fall.

Fresh from blocking any new tax increases during the debt ceiling debacle, some lawmakers in Congress may now oppose renewing the federal tax on gasoline and diesel fuel, which is used to maintain our nations highways.

There is no idiotic position that this group will not endorse. President Eisenhower had the same issue with the states when he fought for and created the federal interstate highway system (borrowed from Germany's autobahn) which made travel easier, reduced the pice of goods transported by truck and was part of our defense. Yes, let's let the states, especially our more backward ones, get the tax money and hire their good ol' boy friends to build and take care of the highways. A brilliant idea.

Oh, how do they plan on the interstate road system to be maintained? I'd like to see what they propose for those road and other ways for people to get around. If they cut off funding for the FAA, how will the private sector pick up the cost for that? The problem is that the private sector won't and will cut service and raise prices for everything to make profits for planes and roads.

they keep showing you but your not paying attention! First it was going against the public workers and you listened to the high paid entertainers explanation so it was a "good idea", now they are going after private sector workers, yet it's Obama killing jobs?

The gullibility of "the majority" of republican voters is amazing. Being equal, democrats are more naive then gullible, but the things they say they want to do campaigning are vague and not specific, so that when they actually implement their plan, more and more of their voters feel the pain. Senior tea partiers will feel it with the cuts to programs they've paid into their whole lives, Teachers, fireman, policeman who are tea partiers feel it with their benefits that they pay (how the hell did they fool these people about freedom when they tell them what to do with money they earned (union dues).

They say Obama wants to make the countr a nanny state, well the GOP wants to push you there and then cut the programs that help get you out!

Have any of you fiscally conservative blackmailers looked at the stock markets lately??? Your holding the debt limit debate hostage has created another wicked downturn to a stock market that was just rebounding nicely. How is your 401k looking today??!!! You should all be ashamed of yourselves! Your salaries should be the next item on the chopping block and upon review, your next inclusion on a voter's ballot will indicate whether or not you have achieved the goals set out by the electorate.

Good luck, hope your resume is in order!

It's almost humorous to see how liberal news networks such as CNN inject their opinions in the titles of their articles, let alone in their content.

Fact: fuel is taxed by the government with the intent for the money to go to our national highway system.
Fact: the government has shown themselves to consistently rob Peter to John to pay Jose to pay Xhuang to eventually pay Paul (with interest).
Fact: CNN has not done any investigatve journalism work to find out where all of our fuel tax money is going or has gone.
Fact: CNN has instead implied that all of the tax money goes directly to the road system and if we don't keep the taxes or increase them that we will need to buy new shocks for our vehicles because the roads will be so bad.
Fiction: CNN is an unbiased news network.
Fiction: The government has shown themselves to be fiscally responsible.
