Unemployment claims at 400,000 level

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) - The number of first-time filers for unemployment benefits fell last week, but remained at a key level signaling that the job market remain sluggish.

There were 400,000 initial unemployment claims filed in the week ended July 30, the Labor Department said Thursday, down 1,000 from an upwardly revised 401,000 the prior week. Economists surveyed by Briefing.com were expecting jobless claims to rise to 405,000.

That will be good new for the repubs.. as there mission is to make sure there is "NO" job growth even though they ran on JOBS JOBS JOBS, but if we see a good steady job growth then they know Obama will look good and a have strong chance at getting re-elected.. I for 1 can't wait to vote these tea party people out of office they have made things worst when things seem to be improving ...its wasn't moving fast but it was improving unitil they took office .. so sad, but thats what you get when people don't and didn't take the Mid-term election serious

How come Republicans are arguing that the Bush era tax breaks create jobs? The only jobs they create are offshore. If they want to keep the Bush era tax cuts, make these companies prove they are growing their "American" work force by at least as much as the avg. yearly unemployment rate; otherwise, take these Bush tax entitlements away from them.

While people are out of work, those scumbags in the House are on vacation. I hope they get an earful when they get back to their districts.

The terrorist Gop/Tea Party is succeeding. The market is crashing. There are record profits for corporations and the rich, and unemployment climbing. Their holding hostage of the American economy over the debt limit increase fiasco will COST a million jobs over 2 years. But don't worry folks, the rich will be alright- the GOP/TP is still giving back obscene tax breaks to the rich and tax incentives to big oil.

Why don't we just arrest these clowns and send them to Gitmo? We'd be better off with the Taliban in office than the Tea Party!
