Trump: If I were treasury secretary...

(CNN) - Donald Trump responded Monday to Mike Huckabee's suggestion that he serve as treasury secretary, predicting who would be hurt most by the potential appointment.

"I'll tell you, it would be very painful for China, it would be very painful for OPEC, it would be very painful for many of the countries that are just ripping us off," the real estate mogul said on Fox News.

Former Arkansas Gov. Huckabee, who first made the suggestion last week, reiterated his call Monday morning, saying current Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has "failed the economy and failed this president."

"The president needs to have him walk the plank, if not for policy reasons, he needs to do it for the political optics," Huckabee said on Fox News. "And bringing Donald Trump in is a real optical game changer."

Geithner announced Sunday he would remain in his post through the 2012 election.

Although Trump seemingly dismissed the suggestion, he showered Huckabee, the former 2008 GOP presidential candidate, with praise.

"I think he would have gotten the nomination personally [in 2012], but you know he had lots of considerations," Trump said. "So, he said that, I'm greatly honored."

Huckabee and Trump decided against bids for the White House earlier this year after public flirtations. Criticism of China and OPEC were oft-heard lines from Trump as he traveled to early presidential voting states mulling a bid.

Considering how familiar The Donald is with the bankruptcy laws in America, I can't think of a better person to be Secretary of the Treasury!

If Trump were Treasury Secretary, the government would still have a trillion-dollar deficit, because that is what happens when the spending approved by the Congress exceeds revenue by 1.5 trillion.

Oh, Donald ... your ego is getting ahead of your brain again! If you had even a clue, you'd know that you'd suck at being Treasury Secretary ... just like you sucked at running for President ... or just like you suck as a business person (who doesn't keep going into bankruptcy) ... etc etc etc

I believe Mr. Trump has experience with several business bankruptcies and bailouts by his creditors. I suppose that would be some useful experience. But would we have to rename the Treasury Building to satisfy the ego of the "real estate mogul?" The Trump Treasury Building?

There is no way, to turn this around, without hurting China.....not because we want to do that, but because China has severely damaged our own country, by subsidizing the manufacturing sector, to unfairly compete with American workers!

A correction to that problem, is essential to America.

Trump is the biggest piece of garbage in the US and has no clue what he is talking about, treasury is way above his head and it is not a reality show or a real estate deal, it is serious worldwide business. He is the biggest idiot alive if he thinks he could negotiate with China, they would eat him in 30 seconds or less, same with OPEC,and the country that is ripping off the US more then anyone is the US, specifically the Republicans.

I respect Donald Trump for his business savy, but what I don't like is that he had "Chickened" out in running for President. He said he could beat Obama. Donal Trump is using the same line he used several months that if he were President that China and OPEC would get hurt if he were President. Donal Trump will never leave his business to run for President that because he doesn't trust anyone to run them with out him having a hands ons so he knows what is going on. Donald Trump is like the guy who yells "fire" in movie theater. Donald Trump should either put up or shut up. I admit he is a very rich man and he is entitled to his opinion but if wants to help the country get better then he should stop yaking and start doing.

Ever since he declined to run for President the people have "FRIED" Donald Trump, I know I have.

Hurt China and OPEC. And that would do exactly what??? Hurt the U.S. unfortunately. China has a lot of our debt. How do we hurt them without hurting ourselves or the world economy for that matter. BTW – you people do realize Trump ran a few of his own companies to bankruptcy.................Until the U.S. starts adopting alternative forms of energy, we are somewhat beholden to OPEC. While I agree with the concept, but reality is we can't do anything right now. Let's work on our own issues before trying to "hurt" those who hold a lot of power over us right now.

Trump as Treasury Secretary wouldn't have the option to run the country in the same way he's run his businesses.

A standard Trump policy is as soon as a business accumulates too much debt, he declares bankruptcy for that business. He wouldn't have that option as Treasury Secretary.

He would be an absolute disaster for the USA and for the World.
