Republicans name conservatives to debt committee

Washington (CNN) - Republican leaders on Wednesday named fiscal conservatives for their six picks for a new congressional "super" committee charged with crafting a plan to cut the country's deficit.

In separate announcements, House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell filled out the GOP spots on the 12-member bipartisan panel created in last week's debt ceiling deal that was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama.

I am actually pleased with Harry Reid's choice of Max Baucus. Baucus voted for the Bush tax cuts in 2001. He has usually voted against repealing portions of that bill and against repealing more recent tax cut bills that benefit upper income taxpayers. In 2008, he voted in favor of permanently repealing the estate tax. We may actually get a reasonable deal out of this committee.

Boehner is a figure head only. The Tea Party humiliated him during the debt ceiling debate and exposed him as just a puppet with them pulling the strings. He had to kiss their feet to even get his own plan passed in the House. Now it will be really interesting to see who he puts on the committee. Does he put competent people who could work across the aisle and come to a compromise or does he put people that Norquist and the Tea Party would want to toe the line on revenue, etc ? He has been in between a rock and a hard place ever since the 2010 elections. No wonder after the debt ceiling passed he told Diane Sawyer that he was going to hide.

  3. Just As I Thought

Three die in the wool DNC Goosesteppers! All 3 have made those recent "we will protect your Medicare at All Costs" statements........but the hope here is after they agree on a "flat tax" one will cross over & begin the cuts on Entitlements & cut up Obambi's credit card.......this Commitee is good in that it can "fast track" whatever they agree upon & without the fear of a Presidential veto! This could work! Think of it, Rudy & these other DNC Bloggers; Sniffit, Lost In Texas, Obama Mama, Lynn, Linda, etc. would have to get a Job! It won't be long now!
    If I was a Liberal Democrat, I would be afraid.......Perry 2012!

I have an idea if they really want to work for America and Americans. Democrats get to choose six republicans and Republicans get to choose six democrats. The meetings should happen in open room with cameras pointing on committee.

There is nothing bi-partisan about these far left picks. How dare he pick 3 people who are kings of spending to be on a committee to reduce spending. Is this his idea of a joke? When these guys can't agree to cut spending, I am predicting right now that they will blame the Tea Party.

  6. Tea Party Mike

It is clear Reid does not take the responsibity of this committee seriously. Reid must prefer a deal not get done by the committee. Murray is in charge of the very political fund raising for the Senate Democrats and Kerry is running around telling tall partisian tales that the downgrade is a Tea Party downgrade and is calling for the main stream media to not give anyone with the Tea Party any air time or coverage, out right censorship. Don't see any open minds in this group or anyone who will compromise.
The Senate Republicans might as well be DeMitt, Rand Paul and Mark Rubio. Kerry would go nuts having to deal with 3 Tea Party backed Republican Senators. Okay, so Kerry already is nuts. He would go crazy. Oops, too late on that one too. Well it would be entertaing in any case.

Murray and Kerry are liberal idiots. Baucus is a little better than an liberal idiot. They will insist on tax hikes and no entitlement reforms. Prediction.....more gridlock and the country will continue down the toliet while Obummie hides under the desk or plays golf.

Gee, do you think the rich will have to sacrifice the lowest tax rates in 60 years? Nope, It'll be you and me who foot the bill as usual. Too bad most Americans are too fat, lazy and stupid to comprehend what is being done to them by their corporate masters or stand up for themselves. Oh well, I'm going to enjoy watching the middle class lose everything. They deserve it.

Gosh It did not take long for out of office Senior Republicans to start dictating why certain persons should not be on this committee. She is an elected politician and a democrat and Reid has the right to choose who the hell he likes and so do Republicans. Did I forget something about "Democracy" and more to the the point this prune is trying to predict already how someone will vote on things not decided yet. Give us all a break from this crap Please.

PS watch the Republicans delay until the very last minute to fill thier six positions. Cant possibly get started sooner rather than later that interferes with Holidays and gives more time for discussion and real debate.
Am I being to cynical? Unfortunately I dont think so.

What is Obama doing, he need to get on with the most massive modernization of America infrastructure. He need to dare the repugs to stop him from modernizing this country, get the congress out their selling this massive renovations. Go to the people and try to show them your point of view. The repugs will try and stop him and try to change the conversation to the deficit. Obama need to stop getting side tracked by these repugs and fight to take the focus off the deficit and on to jobs, because without growth the deficit will get even bigger. Lets go Obama and stop with these temporary fixes and let us fix our country and keep our money from going over seas for a change.
