Stephen Colbert backs Rick 'Parry' for prez

Washington (CNN) - It's not a typo. Comedian Stephen Colbert wants America to vote for Rick Parry - that's right, Parry with an "A."

In the first released ad by his "super" political action committee, Colbert urged Iowa voters to write in "Rick Parry" at the Ames straw poll on Saturday, suggesting in a satiric nod that he's throwing his weight behind Republican Gov. Rick Perry of Texas for president.

"I called dibs on Rick Parry a long time ago," said Colbert, who dubs himself president and assistant equipment manager for his PAC, in a statement Wednesday.

The ad, "Episode IV: A New Hope," is a play on the Supreme Court's 2010 Citizens United ruling, which allows super PACs to receive and spend unlimited amounts of money, as long as they don't coordinate with a particular candidate.

"So to prove we're truly uncoordinated, we're asking voters to write in Parry with an A – as in America, IowA, or PresidAnt," Colbert said. "You can feel confident he's not asking us to do that."

The one-minute spot blasts other groups, including Jobs for Iowa and Grow PAC, for using their "unlimited super PAC money" to rally behind Perry, who's widely expected to launch a presidential campaign soon.

"But what about our unlimited super PAC money? We want you to vote for Rick Perry, too," the ad said. "But not their Rick Perry, our Rick Parry."

The ad took to the airwaves Wednesday in the Des Moines media market.

Colbert's PAC - "Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow" - was granted legal status in June by the Federal Election Commission.

Is it just me or does Rick Perry's pose firing a revolver in the air remind you of Saddam Hussain (and all the other tin-pot dictators) firing their guns in the air as well?

As a Texan that's had to live under the real Rick Perry, I sincerely hope this doesn't end up helping this moron get elected. He's been a disaster for the state. He'll sell the government to the highest bidder. On the other hand, Colbert is brilliant. He's using the idiotic Citizens United ruling and running with it. I only wish it were more absurd and disruptive to the candidates. Then, perhaps they'd realize unlimited corporate money is just that. It's money, not speech.

Our political system is a joke. Corporations are allowed to spend unlimited amounts of money on campaign contributions. It's not free speech. It's corruption.

go Colbert! lets get that Rick Parry in office! Everyone will have a gun and no one will be able to pay for the wounds or deaths they cause because no one will have insurance! Therefore your enemies will be goners!

Old "Good Hair" needs to call a day of prayer to get God to smite Colbert! That may not be the most effective method – it certainly didn't work to un-screw the mess slicky-boy made of Texas. Our education system now looks to Mississippi as a model of efficiency and effectiveness in learning. Seriously, America will like Perry. He's not any smarter than "W" but he's a lot more dishonest. If he'd just come out of the closet he might not need to spend so much time proving he's the most right-wing Bible-thumper in the Republican Circus tent. He does have good hair and likes to show people his "gun".

Stephen I believe you have taken leave of your senses!!!! This Riok Perry is the same kook that wanted to secade from the states that you actually want to be president? We feel President Oboma Is without a doubt is the most articulate, compassion, knowledgeable President that we have been blessed with and because many of us have been dumbed down
many don't realize how fortuneate we are to have him. All the hatred and venom directed towards Our President is a very ssad state of affairs. Mayor Bloomberg said the same thing on television this morning !!!!

read the report, Texas on the Brink, by the legislative commitee. it show what Perry had done to Texas Not For Texas. High teen birth rates. Low womans coverage, low education standards (not counting this years cuts) low numbers of hs graduation, college graduation, bachelors degrees etc. Check out the report, it is the real deal, Not the pretty boy that Perry gets elected from.

Oh yeah! The secessionist! Yes! Too bad many voters stayed home in 2010. We could have had Bill White representing middle class Texans. You get what you vote for, people. Duh!

Totally disgusted with Perry for gutting education funding in this years budget. Blech. On behalf of him and the Texas state congress: I am so very sorry.

Pandering Perry is the best Republican candidate that money can buy. Want to know what his position on any issue is on any given day??? .... just look at the tithes to his political campaign.

Do not be surprised to see the Lipsticked Nitwit in Iowa dropping Perry's name as a write in.

Shalom & Boker tov...Mr Perry, a 'born again' pentecostal charismatic 4th reich acolyte, poses a clear-and-present danger to the civil liberties and lives of Jews everywhere. 'Yeshua ben-Miriam' was a fabrication of a revelatory Graeco-Roman death cult, and crucifictionists did not then, nor now, have any covenant with G-d. What they created was a warrant for genocide, and the smoke of Auschwitz hangs over their empty tomb. For 2000 years, we have seen crusades, people/book burning, slavery, ghettoization, all leading to the gates of Auschwitz. I can ignore Mr Perry's idolatrous blasphemies against Spirit (they do not affect my relationships with Spirit), but I cannot ignore the 1933-1945 exterminationist mind-set he insists on embracing. Mr Perry wants to finish the 1933-1945 'final solution'. As a Jew, I am his 'Jewish problem', because, as a Torah Jew, I know his warped lies of a 'Jesus' (how could we Jews murder a god man who never existed?) are what drives his protonazi mind into a frenzy. For him to speak of 'faith' was said by his Germanazi mentor. We are, indeed, seeing a repeat of the willing executioners...this time, using technology, antisemitism, and the 'media' to propogate a recapitulation. America is in profound peril.

Colbert is the only one out there that gets it right- he nails the bad guys with hilarious wit and irony. keep up the great work exposing the neocon corruption and hypocrisy. Love it! PS the supposedly "liberal media" won't report it but consider this- only 18 people have been recalled in the history of American politics- Wisconsin voters removed 2 elected GOPs from office and a third is in question with gop election tampering being investigated- yet somehow cnn will say this is a loss for Dems? The right wing spin is sickening. Next up : Walker is history. Go Wisconsin.

Love Colbert! He is so funny and he is making a brilliant point that these corrupt Super PACs buying elections for Republicans are WRONG, UNAMERICAN and totally against our democratic values for fair elections. Keep it up Stephem – show the PEOPLE how idiotic and corrupt Republicans are. Corporations are who Republicans work for – not YOU or ME. We need to rid our government of these traitor Republicans and bring in real leadership who work for real solutions and jobs for the PEOPLE. That will only happen with the Democrats. They are all that stands between us and losing everything – including SS, Medicare, Veteran benefits, education for our children, and food for the poor.
