Perry will announce Saturday

Des Moines, Iowa (CNN) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry will announce that he is running for president on Saturday in South Carolina, a Republican familiar with the plans told CNN.

Previous reports had indicated that Perry would use a speech at the conservative RedState Gathering in Charleston to make his intentions clear, but would stop short of officially announcing a presidential bid.

But the Republican source told CNN that Perry will be in the Republican presidential race on Saturday.

So I love how you guys completely assume the fact that he's from texas means he's going to be just like Bush. Bush doesn't represent the entire republican party.

This being said, Rick Perry certainly wont be getting my vote. Jon Huntsman FTW.

Perry is nothing but a right-wing religious fantatic with a "pretty boy, not a hair out of place" FAKE! Good God, look at what the last Texas Gov. did for our Country...NOTHING! He nearly ruined it. I can 't wait to see the next pretty boy from TX get roughed up by the national media. This should be great entertainment television!!!!!

He will be a much more real candidate than Romney. I was reading today about Romney's $1,000,000.00 donation to his PAC from a Corp opened by his friend 4 months before disolving it but first donating the $1M

God Bless Rick shouldn't take much to beat ol' Barry since on voting day all his crew will be busy in the welfare lines with their hands out and their mouths open and will miss the polling lines.

Great! Will enjoy hearing him try to explain why he wants to become President of a country he threatened to secede from – while complaining they weren't sending him enough money to run is state. He makes GWB look smart and that's next to impossible. Perry/Palin 2012!!! A 50 state sweep for Obama.

Maybe it’s time to completely overhaul the election process. It sure doesn’t seem to be working, despite which party is in office.

Is anyone else dreading the coming tidal wave of campaign ads on TV?

Each ad claiming that this and that about the candidates.

    Please spare us!

If perry become president we will have to fight the civil war again. This guy is such a racist that even george bush cant stand him. The bad thing about electing a black president, it brought the racist and haters out of the gofer holes.

To calling me your "friend" and an "idiot" before you know ME...I can only assume that YOU are the one who jumps to conclusions. I'd rather be a thoughtful liberal who alearly understands the ramifications of the country voting for a man who can't even articulate a clear position on same-sex marriage (should be the right of the states or should it be prohibited by the constitution, Rick?) than to be an smarmy and uninformed conservative like yourself.

Maybe it’s time to overhaul our entire democratic process.

They say, “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it!”

But our political system and our so called system of democracy sure does seem to be broken—at least from the perspective of the common man and woman.

I’m sure the rich love it, though.

Some of you should have your voters cards yanked away. The sheer fact that some of you would actually consider Rick Perry or Michele Bachman as presidential candidates is frightening.

Obama has put the US so far down it will be hard for even Perry to bring our nation back to par!

Please people, no more electing people for being smooth and charming. Elect our next president on substance, used car salesmen are smooth and charming.

I am from Texas and I am not happy about Gov. Perry entering the race... He has a job in Texas that he needs to get done.. Securing the border would be a great start...I wish he was dedicated as the Arizona Gov... She is a fighter for her state... We are really going to need a fighter that will stand strong for the Constitution for our once great America.... We need one that will not ignore the people but will stand up for them... The one that I believe will take a stand for what is right for our country is Michelle Bachmann... She loves our country and wants to bring America back from the Socialist state that it is becoming.... We need one that will beat Obama and if the people that care about our rights will vote for her... We will get our country back...... May God Bless Texas & bring us rain... And, may God Bless America, Again........

I'm from Texas. Please, PLEASE do NOT vote for Perry for President! We have suffered under his so-called leadership for too long now. We wouldn't wish it on the rest of the nation.

How much money does one need, in order to make a serious attempt to run for the office of President these days?

    $300 million?

    $500 million?

Now where would an aspiring candidate get such money?

And what would they be obligated to do, after accepting so much money?
