(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said it would be "great" to impeach the president, but that the Democratic controlled Senate would prevent such action.
On a conference call with bloggers Tuesday night, the former Godfather's Pizza CEO called the health care law and the Obama administration's stance over the Defense of Marriage Act impeachable offenses.
The news was first reported by POLITICO and later confirmed to CNN by the Cain campaign.
"There are a number of things where a case could be made in order to impeach him, but because Republicans do not control the United States Senate, they would never allow it to get off the ground," Cain said on the call. "The president is supposed to uphold the laws of this nation … and to tell the Department of Justice not to uphold the Defense of Marriage Act is a breach of his oath."
Nothing like calling the kettle black. And just what does Cain think of his part time workers who get no health care benefits and make minimum wage. Is that a living? NOT!!! He should reconsider. And for a black man to be so bigoted just goes to show how ignorant he is about human rights. Maybe he would be better off a slave too. Just ask Bachmann. What a class clown he is.
And arresting any and all Republicans over the recent credit down-grade would be even better. Send them all to Gitmo as traitors and let them experience waterboarding firsthand. Afterall, the GOP said it isn't torture, right?
this ignorant fool does not know what even constitutes an impeachable offense. if the Republicans weren't so damn scary they would good for a few laughs. as it is, I fear for the future of my country. the last thing we need is another President cut from the same cloth as George W. Bush. the sad thing is that the current crop of GOP wannabes almost make Shrub look good by comparison.
He's a joke! Herman Cain is a sell out. I don't using like to spew race issues like this, but nothing these current repubs are for helping minorities. All of their policy kill education and jobs but this buffoon is sucking up so hard to people which most not all dislike him period. Also if lower taxes create jobs, then where are all these jobs? Overseas?
To bad we can't impeach Cain for stupidity.
Desperation makes you say and do desperate things when you know you're at the bottom and have no chance of going any further. Cain should be jailed for continuing to receive campaign funds under the false pretense he's running for President, he's finished.
I swear that there is no brain connected to that mouth!
Let's see who can say the most outragous thing, or make the most scandalous claim and grab some headlines... Because, of course, there really is no other substance to our candidacies...
Good Grief! And this guy wants to be President!? Wow!
Surely this is a joke–or maybe Cain IS the joke.
Mr. Cain, how many laws did George W Bush tell the Justice Department to "not uphold" with his many "signing statements"? Where where your demands for impeachment for those acts? I guess only certain Presidents have to worry about those things. Mr. Cain before you shoot your uninformed mouth off again about the US Constitution, may I suggest that you take a moment to READ it?
Hmm... let me see... torture: NOT impeachable. warrantless wiretaps: NOT impeachable. detaining a citizen without access to counsel: NOT impeachable. But deciding NOT to discriminate against a large group of people: Impeachable. Welcome to Teahadistan.
Who is this clown and why does anything he says matter or is newsworthy? The guy is an idiot, just like the rest of the GOP candidates in the clown car. George W Bush should have been impeached for lying about the reason for going into Iraq. Anything Obama has done pales in comparison.
I think the entire system needs a full overhaul. Who runs it, how it's run, what it is in total...
But, where this guy is a presidential candidate, I'm a potential terrorist.
Changing the president won't fix a damned thing. Don't worry, you'll see soon enough.
(Actually, it's already been proven. We changed presidents three years ago and things are still the same, but what does that prove?)
This guy is a complete idiot and so is anyone else who thinks the President should be impeached. Presidents, or senators or even Congressmen can Not be impeached just because you don't like their policies. Idiots one and all.
if he really thinks "the health care law and the Obama administration's stance over the Defense of Marriage Act" are impeachable offenses, then he is clearly not qualified to be president.
Not enforcing a law is a known check on the Legislative branch. Sure, play the impeachment card, which is the Legislative check on the Executive. It doesn't matter if you win–the objective is to make your views known. Like the Wisconsin recall: part of it was to send the message to the executive.
This black guy called herman cain need to have his mouth shoveled with socks.
Why is it every time I hear something from Cain I just get angry? Can there be a day when he says something that does not make me angry and disgusted??
another right wing nutbag. this is a sure way to get independents like myself to vote democratic. if bush didn't get impeached for sending 4K people to their deaths in iraq for no reason, i don't think obama will be impeached for just trying to get his job done.
Are you kidding me? Obama wants the best for the US anf he wants him impeachec?
These clowns are completely off their rockers!! Obama wants to help people stay alive. You want to impeach somebody start with the village moron from ct by way of texas!!!
Is this stupidity ever going to stop????? BTW arse hole, it's the teabaggers in congress who are not upholding their pledge to work for ALL Americans by signing pledges against us. Traitors all!! Get lost!!
A few things Mr. Cain,
President Obama can say whatever he wants, just like you. His statement is more of a challenge and opinion of DOMA. Additionally, Section 3 has been declared unconstitutional twice. Untill the ruling is officially appealed, that portion of the DOMA has been redacted. The President has upheld the constitution. If the Supreme Court were to fail to uphold DOMA, it is the court that is in error, not the President. Good luck on the whole campaign thing....
But you didn't impeach Bush for lying to the American public and attacking Iraq without provacation. Hypocrites.
Cain has a problem with that thing above his shoulders in computers it's called a ID-10T. "if it fits it ships"
Herman Cain has a lot of nerve suggesting an impeachment of President Obama. The Democrats should have impeached G.W. Bush for starting a war in Iraq when there were no weapons of mass destruction. How quickly the Republicans forget the mistakes of Bush's 8 miserable years. The same 8 years that caused our debt situation. Republicans=Short Term Memory.
