Cain says Obama impeachment would be 'a great thing'

(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said it would be "great" to impeach the president, but that the Democratic controlled Senate would prevent such action.

On a conference call with bloggers Tuesday night, the former Godfather's Pizza CEO called the health care law and the Obama administration's stance over the Defense of Marriage Act impeachable offenses.

The news was first reported by POLITICO and later confirmed to CNN by the Cain campaign.

"There are a number of things where a case could be made in order to impeach him, but because Republicans do not control the United States Senate, they would never allow it to get off the ground," Cain said on the call. "The president is supposed to uphold the laws of this nation … and to tell the Department of Justice not to uphold the Defense of Marriage Act is a breach of his oath."

Yea, why enforce an act that clearly violates the 14th amendment of the Constitution? He is supposed to uphold the constitution. So by choosing to not follow the defense of marriage act allows him to follow the Constitution.

OMG, where did this man come from???? This guy certainly knows he is NOT going to even win the Republican primary election. He is running just to attract attention. But, i wish he realizes that by doing what he is doing, he only makes himself more of a joke. The guy is ridiculous. A male version of someone by the name of Palin!?

I am glad that most of the comments recognize the vanity of claiming that Obama should be impeached and realizing the difference between disagreeing with a politicians policies and accusing him of having committed a crime for which he should be convicted. Impeachment should never be rashly used. It is serious, not unlike accusations of treason. If getting elected requires a person to make more and more outlandish statements, then we have a problem. We need to give politicians permission to be sensible and moderate, even if that makes them boring.

Okay, you can hold the opinion that Obama should be impeached. But logic dictates that if he's impeachable, then a president who ordered intelligence data cooked to reflect what he wanted it to, repealed posse comitatus under certain conditions, repealed habeus corpus for prisoners by calling them enemy combatants, conducted warrantless wiretaps, and is now charged with war crimes by several nations including some of our allies, should also have been impeachable.

What's that? You would have opposed George W. Bush and Dick Cheney's impeachment? Well then, you cannot LOGICALLY argue for Obama's impeachment. Now if you want to be admittedly and publicly illogical, that's your prerogative of course. I'm just saying.

Does Herman Cain remember what happened to Michael Steele? He tried to be the Repuglicans' symbolic, "see, we got a Black man in a high position in the GOP" to respond to the POTUS and what happened to him? Served his purpose by adding millions to their coffers at the expense of his own soul, and now he's gone. FIRED. Herman Cain needs to go back to making/selling pizzas. Maybe he can get a contract with the GOP to be their official pizza supplier. He would be better served. Currently, he's just helping the Democrats, as most of the GOP's wanabe candidates.

Only one industrialized nation on the planet doesn't have Universal Health Care, the US. All others have it, cover everybody and pay half what Americans pay. 36 of them are rated higher in health care quality.

Impeach Obama because he tried to do something about it? Whatever you say Cain.

If there was a way to impeach Presidential Candidates from their candidacy for all the dumb things they are saying and doing, I would work at impeaching the entire group of Republican/Tea Party candidates.

""The president is supposed to uphold the laws of this nation."

Amazing how the far right squeals about the laws of the nation being sacrosanct when it comes to laws they like, but when you point out that, say, Roe Vs Wade is ALSO a law of the nation, then suddenly their previous holier than thou attitude vanishes. Bloody hypocrites.

"The president is supposed to uphold the laws of this nation"

I wish I could have been there in the audience to yell out:

"Laws of the nation? You mean like Roe. vs wade? Or do you only mean laws of the nation that you personally agree with?"

What is it with the GOP? Do they have any candidate worth even listening to? The saddest part is that their are Americans that will listen to the idiotic statements some of them make. Haven't we seen what having intellectually deficient people in the White House does to this country? Aren't we seeing what Bushs moronic presidency has done to this nation?

Ummmmm, there is no Defense of marriage act on the books ... or am i mistaken? Is he speaking hypothetically? I mean, the president could instruct the department of justice not to uphold a law bringing back slavery too.

@peter .... no, absolutely not. It is NOT the job of the media to filter. It is NOT the job of the media to tell people what to think. The job of the media is to report. If candidates say it, their job is to report it.
