(CNN) – President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton finally have done what so many have been urging them to do for a long time – publicly call on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down.
They coordinated their statement with similar statements from other allied leaders, including from Canada, France, Germany, Britain and the European Union.

Washington (CNN) - While the White House is still working on the jobs proposal the President will put forth in early September, former Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin has already drawn some conclusions.
Saying it will be based on his past record which she said has failed to spur growth, Palin called the upcoming plan a "third stimulus" program and said it will be counterproductive to the president's aims of creating jobs.

Pembroke, New Hampshire (CNN) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry declared President Obama's call Thursday for Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad to step down "long overdue."
"Today's actions are long overdue and every diplomatic option should be brought to bear to prevent Assad from wreaking further violence on the people of that region," he said.

Columbia, South Carolina (CNN) – Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann said the president's call for Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad to step down is another example of Barack Obama leading from behind on foreign policy.
Following a rally in downtown Columbia, the Minnesota congresswoman read a prepared statement to reporters that said in part, "The president should have acted weeks ago to call on President Assad to step down when his regime started slaughtering and oppressing his own Syrian people. By this count now it's thousands of Syrians."

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) - Ratings agency Standard & Poor's is being investigated by the U.S. Justice Department for allegedly overrating mortgage-backed securities, whose meltdown led to the 2008 financial crisis, according to two sources with knowledge of the investigation.
The sources confirmed to CNN that Justice Department attorneys interviewed current and former S&P credit analysts earlier this year.

(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney lambasted President Barack Obama's leadership Thursday saying his call for Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad to step down comes after too much blood has been shed in the country.
