Palin: Obama 'very tone deaf' with vacation

Washington (CNN) - While the White House is still working on the jobs proposal the President will put forth in early September, former Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin has already drawn some conclusions.

Saying it will be based on his past record which she said has failed to spur growth, Palin called the upcoming plan a "third stimulus" program and said it will be counterproductive to the president's aims of creating jobs.

"Unfortunately he is of that mindset of incurring more debt will get us out of debt," Palin, a paid contributor to Fox News, said in an interview on that network on Thursday.

While administration officials have said there will be new spending proposed as part of his initiative next month, they said any of that additional cost will be offset by deficit reduction that is included in the plan put forth by the special congressional super committee.

On the president's vacation to the resort island of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts beginning Thursday, Palin said Obama is "very, very tone deaf" for continuing with his vacation because of economic problems facing the country.

Asked if he should go, Palin responded "I wouldn't if I were he, especially to Martha's Vineyard," and added, "I think he will hear from enough Americans that he will come back early."

Known for her criticism of the media coverage she received during the 2008 campaign, Palin on Thursday did not join in with those who lambasted the cover of Newsweek magazine earlier this month as being sexist when it showed an unflattering picture of presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann with the title "Queen of Rage."

"Every candidate is going to be vetted. I think now so more than ever because we learned a lesson with electing a president who was not vetted by the mainstream media, and you know we are now asking what did we get out of that," she said in the interview.

"I think there is going to be a lot of vetting, and some will interpret that because a female candidate will be vetted the same as a man even more so as being sexist. I don't know if I would characterize as being sexist. I would just characterize it as the new normal. I think it is quite healthy," she said.

Regarding an issue that dominated much of the campaign conversation this week she complimented her former gubernatorial colleague and current presidential candidate Rick Perry for some of his criticism of the Federal Reserve. She was not specifically asked if he went too far in saying some of the actions of its chairman Ben Bernanke could be considered treasonous. She has criticized some of the Fed's actions in the past to prop up the economy.

"More power to Rick Perry for calling it the way he saw it," Palin said Thursday.

She said she agreed with some analysts that President Obama elevated Gov. Perry by responding to a question about the governor. The president told CNN's Wolf Blitzer earlier this week, "I'll cut him some slack. He's only been at it for a few days now."

The president referred to comments by Perry that some in the military would have more respect for him than Mr. Obama.

Palin said Obama's advice to the candidate showed "arrogance."

"I wish President Obama would stay focused on what matters," she said in the interview. "Quit picking on other people like Rick Perry."

She continued to remain coy about her own intentions on whether she or will or won't enter the 2012 presidential sweepstakes, saying, "I am still considering it."

And Palin said she is "still listening to the debate and the discourse in the GOP line up right now and still looking for that candidate who I can put my heart and soul behind to support. If I don't see that person here in short order I would be willing to put my name forward in the name of service."

Asked what she thought about the current field, she said "I am impressed with the lineup but there is still quite a long process. There is going to be lots of comings and goings with this lineup, and I know that because I have spoken with them I know that I am not the only potential candidate still on the sidelines waiting to see how things are going to unfold."

Palin refused to name names. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisconsin, have both received a lot of renewed attention this week. "There is a bunch of them. There are a bunch of them who are doing the same thing that I am doing and that is considering the life changing impact on family decisions that have to be made before jumping in."

#1 Palin is in charge of nothing and her opinions are just as meaningful as all the other idiots who post theirs (including myself). #2 She needs to look up the word "hypocrisy" because she indulges in it everyday and makes her look so pathetic to the intelligent ones among us. #3 Bush has the record for the amount of vacation time used during a Presidency. He went on vacation several times after getting us into two (many of us still believe and always will) illegal wars and getting thousands more of our soldiers an early death that far exceeds the number of people that originally died on 9/11. Revenge is a very petty and juvenile emotion. Where was Palin to criticize Bush during his vacations? Oh yes, she was spying on Russia with her binoculars and shooting wildlife from a helicopter while getting ready to quit her job.

Sarah Palin is the most experience person of all the cabdidates to become President. Barack Obama is the most dangerious and the dunbest person ever to become President. All those who voted for him what a great mistake you made.

  8. Joe from CT, not Lieberman

Normally, when a President takes a vacation, he still works at being President 24/7. It is only the venue that changes. As far as "vacations" go, President Dubbya took more "vacation" days each year he served in the Oval Office than President Obama has his entire term. Obama's work habits are also more in tune with Bill Clinton's, too, than Dubbya's. Clinton and Obama are both early risers and usually have a couple of hours in at work before 8AM. They also keep at it until well after 11. This is as opposed to Dubbya, who slept until 7 and went to bed at 10 every day. If anyone deserves a vacation, it is Barak Obama, not the former governor of Alaska who quit before her term expired to go out and make money off people too ignorant to realize she was fleecing them.

Dubya took a total of a year and a half worth of days vacation as Pres and NOT ONE GOP said a damn thing especially when he stayed on vacation for a total of 9 days as corpses floated thru Louisiana right after Katrina. Palin is nothing more than a weasel braying at our Commander in Chief. I hope she wants what she gets from the Law of Karma because shes going to get it whether she wants it or not. Shameless.

When the Founding Fathers created our system of "Checks and Balances" and a Two Party system, the main objective here was not to have one party prevent the other party from moving the country forward but rather for both parties to find common ground in the best interest of our Union. But unfortunately, the GOP and their teaparty and their base see our constitution in a whole new light.

So as leader of the free and democratic world, what message are we really sending to countries abroad when these republican lunatics keep rediculing our president and keep questioning the validity of every foreign and domestic legislation proposed by the Obama administration? We often argue that we are the greatest country in the world but are we really the greatest country in the world? And if so, what really makes us such? Is it our military might to impose our will and start illegitimate wars such as is the case in Iraq? Is it our freedom of speech to spread our racism, bigotry and hate across America? Or is it our freedom to bare arms and back up our arrogance and hatred with firepower? So what really makes us the so-called "Greatest Country" in the world? Maybe Sarah Palin can explain.

    and where are your IDEAS?
Critics have the easy job – nothing is ever perfect and it is always possible to find a flaw – it is not so easy to find a solution. and all the GOP has been doing since Obama took office has been to find flaws. Not a single idea – well, okay cut taxes again – has come from the GOP.

Tone deaf? Tone deaf? This shrill harpy would make Roseanne Barr sound like Maria Callas. Just Me thinks Palin will try to avoid looking like a complete idiot. The problem is, idiots like Pallin think they're NOT idiots, so they continue to act and look like idiots. If this woman were talking on the sidelines of a kid's hockey game, I'd walk to the other side of the rink.

Presidents work even when on vacation. Give me a break...your worse...a quitter just looking for publicity. Stopped your bus tour...too tired my dear...then started it up again when others were getting all the attention.

On second thought, if Palin were talking on the sidelines, I'd get in my car and get as far away as possible, as quickly as possible. To avoid the gas coming out of her mouth.

Second City TV used to have this running gag where annoying and obnoxious celebrities (played by the SCTV performers) would appear on stage, start to "do their thing", then in very short time (sometimes instantly) be blown to smithereens. Whenever I see Palin, I think of that and smile.

I guess I can understand why the media keeps covering this person. You gotta read what she says for two reasons, one to see what stupid thing she is saying and the other the fear she may actually somehow God forbid get elected. I know she comes across as a nut case and in a lot of ways she is but don’t underestimate her. She loves to say the media is hard on her but actually she thrives on it. She is a very dangerous person that is using events today to her advantage for power and money. As for the nut case part, well part of her brain is functioning at 100%, the part to keep her in the news, get her silly TV shows, etc. the other part is, well, just missing. Just look at how she words some of her comments, her brain is bouncing all over the place.

  20. Never stop working

Since her answer has been to quit her jobs when she needs a little 'me time', I guess she doesn't quite get the concept of working vacations and that even when not in Washington Presidents still receive their daily briefings, task their advisors, and keep things moving forward. There's this cool innovation called "technology" that makes it possible for the President to have a mobile office no matter where in the world he is, and even up in the air in the middle of a flight. Guess we know that if Palin is in office, when she's 'on vacation' she can be expected to hang out the "do not disturb" sign...

    August 19, 2011 08:50 am at 8:50 am |
  21. Sarah who?

I believe you meant to say 'ideoligical' not 'idologyical' the latter is not actually a word.

Really?!?!?!? Let's try again. I believe you meant to say "ideological", not "ideoligical", right?

Time for Americans to arm themselves and protect our rights from the obama administration and the obama doj, stop them, arm yourself, protect our freedom, obamas plan is to make the USA a dictatorship under his black ways.

This is a complement coming from the woman who thinks she can quit her Governorship halfway through and still be president. Modern Republicans have turned tone deafness into an artform, even more so than other elected officials these days. Besides, Obama deserves a vacation. He just go done saving this country from the economic meltdown your supposedly savvy friends were trying to intentionally inflict on the country.

    August 19, 2011 08:53 am at 8:53 am |
  25. Yeah Right

The president is the head of a business. When my boss goes on vacation, work still gets done because he has staff. This accusation comes from a woman driving around the country in a bus unable to even decide if she is running for president and someone who has NO ideas of her own except to criticize. Go away.
