'Idiot' jab lobbed at Perry

(CNN) - Former Treasury official Bruce Bartlett labeled newly-minted Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry "an idiot" Friday.

Bartlett, who served at Treasury under former President George H.W. Bush and as a domestic policy adviser to the late President Ronald Reagan, delivered the choice words to the Texas Gov. in reference to his recent comments about Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke.

"Rick Perry's an idiot, and I don't think anyone would disagree with that," Bartlett said Friday on CNN's "American Morning."

Perry sparked controversy when he said Bernanke would be "treasonous" if he printed more money to stimulate the economy before the 2012 election.

"I mean, printing more money to play politics at this particular time in American history is almost treacherous, or treasonous, in my opinion," Perry said Monday in Iowa. He stood by his comments Tuesday.

Bartlett said the politics at the Federal Reserve are a serious problem and in part blamed U.S. presidents, who he said have historically not focused their energies on the bank.

"He [Obama] has had open seats on the fed almost his entire presidency and I think that this sends a signal that he just doesn't care very much about what the fed does," Bartlett said.

Despite serving in Republican administrations, Bartlett is no stranger to GOP criticism, particularly of former President George W. Bush.

Bartlett's 2006 book "Imposter: How George W. Bush Bankrupted America and Betrayed the Reagan Legacy" accused the administration of departing from conservative economic principles. More recently he attributed the economic recession to the former president and Republican Party.

Team Perry did not immediately respond for a request for comment.

Everytime I see this guy or hear him I can't stop laughing. Did Texans elect him governor or was he appointed? He's like a cartoon character.

He must be a secret "liberal" in disguise! Oh, wait, Rick Perry IS an idiot. Instead of doing something to contribute to the economic situation, Perry blasts everyone and then his genius idea was to assemble a group of people to pray away the problems. Yeah, I'm talking to you GOP conservative people. If this is your idea of a leader, you guys are in a heap of trouble...if you manage to get him into the WH, and there is a nuclear attack...you morons better hope he doesn't ask you to pray the situation away.

By the way, how'd that prayer thing in Houston go anyways? OH yeah, NOTHING HAPPENED. Now grow up and vote responsibly for the country and not for your own twisted sense of reality/ideology.

Does anyone else notice that Texas produces some really low IQ political leaders and then we elect them? I wonder what that says about the Great State of Texas and us?

@Teabagger Mike: If YOU and your drooling bretheren are truly interested in how Perry created all those jobs in Texas, GO RESEARCH IT, instead of demagoguing it. If you do honest research away from the believe-in-the-Tea-fairy lunacy, you'll learn that a majority of the jobs he created are directly attributable to government spending, if not direct gov't employment. That makes the Teatard Perry an unabashed hypocrit, not to mention a proven intellectual dolt! Looks like these are strict requirments to be a [R] govenor of Texas.

Now, your comment about "Americans are looking for leaders who can deliver, not leaders who have failed and then blame others for their failure" is then a first rate bit of personal and political hypocrisy. No wonder you worship political leaders that are brainless fools wearing tinfoil hats.

YOU are the very "mediocrity" that The Real Tom Paine (4:19 pm) was talking about. And though he hit the rightwing nail squarely on its empty head, he was being overly gracious to malignant nimrods like you.

Rick Perry says that if he is elected President, he's going to repeal all the laws with which he disagrees. The first law he's going to repeal is the Law of Gravity.

    @Tea Party Mike-

Stop with the speaking "for the majority of Americans". The tea party is practically extinct (or just the butt of jokes) and if you are still in complete denial about that, the 8-1 ratio of people on here who are against Perry (ratio is even higher on the Palin/Bachman blogs) rather than for him should have clued you in that any tea party candidate is doomed. Also, drop "tea party" from your name and I promise, more people will read your posts rather than rolling their eyes at your name as they keep scrolling down....

I am a conservative and I want Obama and all his moronic cronies thrown out of office as soon as possible, but I cannot support any of the so-called Christian Right candidates. This country is in the most serious trouble it has been in since World War II. 61 trillion dollars in debt? If every American worker was taxed 100% of his/her earnings for the next nine years it would not be enough to cover it (and that's just the federal debt). We need a president who doesn't feel the need to drop to his knees and ask Jesus for guidance every time a problem arises. We need a leader, not a follower.

Oh and to the angriest guy on here, something about "15 million jobs someone only has to lose one", or whatever, we can't hear you yelling, so the nastier your comments are, the less effect they have.

And by the way, there are some really smart people on this blog who come prepared with factual statements, not just fox news sound bites. You better start your research buddy,or they will tear your comments to pieces.

Maybe now Obama will release his transcripts. At leat the GOP candidates agreed to do that.

Why at CNN does everyone name call? If you can't offer sensible comments instead of hate, then stay off the site. Our mess is a combination of all administrations. We need to stop spending money.

Oh, and since Washington created this mess why should any of us pay more in taxes to clean it up. It is time to cut the budget, cut the spending and because of this some folks may have to rely on their families to take care of them instead of the government.

II love it. The treasury secretary for the GOP's hallowed and revered Reagan Administration calls it right and puts the blame for this mess squarely on the shoulders of GW Bush. Sensible people with half a brain who can do simple Math problems know this to be the case And then taggin' Gov Perry to boot (hand tooled leather even). It doesn't get any better than this – unless maybe the Gipper himself came back and gave a "ditto".

Hot shots like Perry usually destroy themselves,he has a pretty good start. He still thinks he is running in Texas and not Nationally.it won't belong before one of his Girl friends or Boyfriends will come out of the woodwork and then this Overbearing Blowhard will have to answer some tough questions. He can not cover everthing up by taking a bite of food or trying to ignore the press. He won't last long.
