'Idiot' jab lobbed at Perry

(CNN) - Former Treasury official Bruce Bartlett labeled newly-minted Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry "an idiot" Friday.

Bartlett, who served at Treasury under former President George H.W. Bush and as a domestic policy adviser to the late President Ronald Reagan, delivered the choice words to the Texas Gov. in reference to his recent comments about Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke.

"Rick Perry's an idiot, and I don't think anyone would disagree with that," Bartlett said Friday on CNN's "American Morning."

Perry sparked controversy when he said Bernanke would be "treasonous" if he printed more money to stimulate the economy before the 2012 election.

"I mean, printing more money to play politics at this particular time in American history is almost treacherous, or treasonous, in my opinion," Perry said Monday in Iowa. He stood by his comments Tuesday.

Bartlett said the politics at the Federal Reserve are a serious problem and in part blamed U.S. presidents, who he said have historically not focused their energies on the bank.

"He [Obama] has had open seats on the fed almost his entire presidency and I think that this sends a signal that he just doesn't care very much about what the fed does," Bartlett said.

Despite serving in Republican administrations, Bartlett is no stranger to GOP criticism, particularly of former President George W. Bush.

Bartlett's 2006 book "Imposter: How George W. Bush Bankrupted America and Betrayed the Reagan Legacy" accused the administration of departing from conservative economic principles. More recently he attributed the economic recession to the former president and Republican Party.

Team Perry did not immediately respond for a request for comment.

Texas is doing much better now that he is travelling out of state.
Make it permanent, but not as president or any position that he could damage the country.

Unfortunately, the only label Perry refuses to live down to is "secessionist".

When all you do is level criticism against others you should expect to be treated the same, especially when you are as high profile as Perry. You're in the kitchen, expect the heat. If you don't like it, take the Sarah Palin path and cut & run.

Wow, when you can't get love from your own people, it is time to assess what you are getting yourself into. To be honest, he is an idiot. I am looking forward to his becoming the GOP candidate. Watching him get destroyed will be fun.

CNN stoops to a new low. Too bad most real Americans realize Bernanke is a traitor, so Perry's got my vote. CNN FAIL.

Maybe the Republican voters will wake up if their own start pointing out that only lowest denominator of their party are running. It is impossible for me to think that there are no decent, logical, capable Republicans out there that could run for President. Or...is it they are smart enough to not want the job?

Look people, I actually HEARD this newscast this morning, and the reason he was called an IDIOT isn't actually because Perry is an idiot, it's because Bruce Bartlett is too dumb to think on his feet and articulate a good response to interview questions. Even when the interviewer asked Bartlett to "expound" upon the idiot remark, Bartlett stumbled and fumbled several times. Bartlett is the "idiot" as it were. Learn to articulate your point, man.

    Jonsie,
"George Bush's fault, George Bush's fault, George Bush's fault – grow up kids, at some point the Dem's have to stop putting the blame on everyone but themselves". Seriously? The republicnas still blame Clinton for their ills. Josie, those who live in glass houses should not throw stones! You are right when you say blaming others solves nothingbut your party should practice what it preaches. "Do as we say, not as we do" doesn't cut it.

If you really want to blame our ecocomy problems on the real cuprit look no furthef than the newly appointed king of all rethugs by the teabaggers, reagan.
It started with ghe deregulation of big companies under his watch (phone, airlines, banks, etc). He also took away, for the little people of coursd) being able to claim interest from your credit cards on your tax forms. All tgat is left in ournhomes and they are trying to take that away also along with social security , medicare and medicaid. Why doesn't the lame stream media makes these clowns answer the har quextions and tell us what they are going to do to change it? I forgot, they walk of the stage or keep repeatin ad nauseum the "I am running for the presidency of the US"

last I checked the Obama administration said that the debt was a national security issue. So by their own standards anyone who makes the debt worse simply because of politics would fit the traitor definition.
Oh and blaming Bush for the debt is akin to blaming a guy who stole some acorns off a tree but staying quite when the next guy steals the whole damn tree.

"Could (quit) pointing fingers at other people and fix it!!"

Ah, but it was such a BIG hole, Jonsie. And while Obama may have had the the Congress he wanted for two years, the GOPers had the filibuster power THEY wanted, and weren't any too shy about using that power. Nor have they been too eager to fix the damage THEY caused now that they control the purse strings again. Doubtful they know how ... or even what to do. Very good at disrupting and distracting, are the GOPers. Not so good at leading. Too much lobbyist payback, I suspect.

Bartlett knows full well that Obama has nominated several people to fill these positions, but the Republicans in Congress keep blocking or stalling the nomination process. The House of Representatives is now using tricks to prevent recess appointments as well. This is complete and utter nonsense. Get to work, Congress! Confirm the nominations or give us VALID reasons why you are stalling and/or blocking these appointments. If you don't like the nominee, Congress must work with the president to find an alternative acceptable to all.

No politician is going to sit on their azz waiting for the free market economy to *fix itself*.

It doesn't matter if they are a Democratic or Republican President. If you wait around and allow the free markets to fix it, you will surely lose.

So all this talk from the likes of Perry is just hot air. If the economy tanked, as President, Perry would spend his way out of it as well. That is DEMOCRACY.

The economy sucks, job market sucks and deficit over the top and has gotten much worse during his presidency. Could pointing fingers at other people and fix it!!

Oh the myth of Obama having control of Congress for 2 years just keeps getting old...the short lived 60 vote majority in the Senate was a false super majority, given the penchant of a few Dem. Conservatives threatening to filibuster along with Republicans, etc...
AND...if REAGAN can blame all his woes on Carter throughout his first term and into the second term elections, then Obama can do the same to Bush, espec. since unlike Carter, Bush was at the helm of the sinking ship for 8 years!
