(CNN) - Former Treasury official Bruce Bartlett labeled newly-minted Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry "an idiot" Friday.
Bartlett, who served at Treasury under former President George H.W. Bush and as a domestic policy adviser to the late President Ronald Reagan, delivered the choice words to the Texas Gov. in reference to his recent comments about Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke.

Manchester, New Hampshire (CNN) - Embattled state Republican Party Chairman Jack Kimball is trying to delay a meeting that could affect his term in office.
Kimball's tenure at the head of the state party has been mired by reports of infighting and disappointing fundraising numbers. On Thursday morning, a member of the GOP executive committee sent members an e-mail calling for a special meeting to discuss recent events. The story was first reported in the New Hampshire Union Leader.

(CNN) – Democratic group House Majority PAC set its sights on one freshman and one veteran congressman with new ads to be released Friday in their continued effort to return control of the House of Representatives to the Democrats.
Two Republican lawmakers, freshman Wisconsin Rep. Sean Duffy and nine-term California Rep. Dan Lungren, are the subjects of new cable spots set to air during the August recess. The 30-second commercials were produced to “hold vulnerable House Republicans accountable” for “misguided priorities” and “votes to sell out the middle class,” according to a statement released by the political action committee.

CNN: Perry: US move on Syria 'long-overdue'
Texas Gov. Rick Perry declared President Obama's call Thursday for Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad to step down "long overdue." "Today's actions are long overdue and every diplomatic option should be brought to bear to prevent Assad from wreaking further violence on the people of that region," he said.
