Obama says Gadhafi's rule is over

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama said Monday that the regime of Moammar Gadhafi in Libya "is coming to an end" and he pledged U.S. support for a democratic Libya.

In a statement to reporters from his vacation in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, Obama said the situation remains fluid on the ground in Libya, but that it was clear that "Gadhafi's rule is over."

White House officials said Obama has been receiving frequent updates on the crisis in part from John Brennan, his counterterrorism adviser. Brennan has been receiving intelligence from a team in the rebel stronghold of Benghazi, the White House noted.

Obama held a high-level call with senior members of his national security team Sunday evening,
Yeah, some "vacation" our President is on huh Right-wingers?
It is good to see that the President hasn't lost himself in the bushes (shrubs) and is staying abreast of domestic and world events.

Can't even begin to imagine what it would be like to live under a 42 year regime rule of such a man as Ghadhafi. I remember well the Lockerbie bombing, and have sat back in disgust knowing full well that our Goverment spent the next 25 plus years aiding and abetting this Libyan terrorist. Hope our American oil barons are proud of themselves ... and rethinking their millions in profits, and how they came by their wealth.

Lesson most people bash Obama with this Libya stuff. They bash him for not taking in control and bum rushed Libya sooner. Lesson America has a stigma about us especially from the Arabs. If we had bum rushed libya, the people would have rebelled and then we'd have another Afghanistan on our hands. The secret to war is will and sence of purpose and responsibly. If we had taken those rebels responsibility for country and fight for them, they wouldn't be where they are right
now. People were also saying to get out when the war seems stagnated. What message would America send to the world if this had happened. Perception gets or don't get the first bid. You are judged by reputation in this world ask the business community. So far Obama has played his hands greatly. The conflict will cause us a Measly billion dollars, that is unheard of in modern conflict, look how much money the bush wars has cost us it nearly ruined our country with huge debt.

Tripoli is falling and Damascus is next. I wonder does everyone see the big picture here. Iran is being surrounded. We will have forward operating bases in Afghanistan and Iraq. Tehran will eventually as well.

"U.S. officials fear last-minute Gadhafi reprisals in Libya"
They should put the worries aside. Whatever happens let it be. Who expects a smooth give up after four decades in power. Of course it is the HUGE CHANGE and no one should expect will take place without any setbacks. It can be now at the last minutes to the end or after the new beginning of a new era!

Good Job Mr. President you have shown us and the world patience is a virtue without the loss of our military lives.
Now what will the naysayers say they wanted to impeach you for getting involved in Libya. People tend to forget that Osama bin Laden and Gaddahfi were dangerous. Your job is also to protect the United States and keep the nuclear weapons out of the hands of terroist. We appreciate the job you are doing this is what you call a true LEADER.

President Obama knows how to multi-task and that is so frustrating to his critics they just don't know how he is thinking but I am here to tell you this is the 21st century and the younger people, who are the future of this country knows exactly where he is coming from dialogue is very important. He doesn't get angry he uses his head.

John McCain and Lindsay Graham need to support this President instead of always criticizing him but that will never happen.

America wake up and be proud of your President.

"Obama has once again proven he is a great leader."
Gee... when the US got involved, you lefties said it was a "NATO" mission and we were just support forces. Now Obama is a "great leader"??? Sorry..... can't have it both ways.

The republicans are wrong, once again. I cannot recall when these Hoover economists were ever correct.

You know. last night I heard McCain and Lindsey Graham popping off at the mouth about the situation in Libya. They were trying to get early Republican spin on what is shaping up to be a clear victory & vindication of No-Drama-Obama's strategy to remove Moammar Kaddafhi from power.

Mr. President, resist any GOP faux pas like: "Mission Accomplished" or " We will be greated as Liberators". You don't need to spike the football. No need to get ahead of yourself. Moammar's days do seem to be numbered and you WILL GET THE CREDIT for it. Low cost, ZERO American deaths, Dictator deposed. WELL DONE, sir! Americans can't imagine any of your potential adversaries; Swaggering Cowboy Perry, Corporate Raider & Flopper Romney, PizzaMan Cain or No Accomplishments Bachmann achieving a similar outcome had they been at the helm.

I'm sure your opponents will try to obfuscate history or try to EXPAND the mission to redefine success. Don't let them. Talk will turn to "we don't know much about these rebels – they're secret al Queda members" – or something like that.

We can rest assured that under your leadership, the military is applying many of the leassons learned from the mismanagement of the toppling of Saddam Hussien and that Libya will be SMOOTHER than it otherwise would have been.
