Bachmann points to 'great sense of humor' after God joke

(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann defended her recent comments about natural disasters in Washington, D.C. serving as messages from God, saying she was joking.

"I have a great sense of humor and I think it's important to exhibit that humor sometimes when you are talking to people as well," Bachmann said Monday at a campaign event in Miami. "Of course I was being humorous when I said that."

Her reaction was similar to her campaign's response Monday.

The Minnesota Rep. received criticism following statements she made over the weekend that equated the recent earthquake and Hurricane Irene to acts of God.

"Washington, D.C. you'd think by now they'd get the message," Bachmann said at a town hall in Florida Saturday to laughs. "An earthquake, a hurricane, are you listening? The American people have done everything they possibly can, now it's time for an act of God and we're getting it."

At Monday's event, Bachmann said the remarks were intended to tell the president he is not listening to the American people.

There are jokes – some of the punchlines are:
You have to buy a TICKET!
WHAT? I sent the police, I sent the fire department, I sent a guy in a boat, I even sent a helicopter. What else should I have done?

Hers is no worse, GET OVER IT.

Along with taking the Lord's name in vain, and abject callousness toward millions who lives and homes have been destroyed,
she was unable to see the total irony in her statement by looking at Rita and Katrina, as well as 9/11 and two wars under
Bush as another message from heaven that it was time for them to leave the White House.

Is this as bad as the Joke Obama made about there being 57 states? Or the joke about rich people paying more taxes (after extending bush tax cuts, and GE paying no taxes) What about his joke on the people about his stimulus creating jobs... even as the unemployment rate increased....

I know it has been said before but it needs to be repeated.
The saddest fact of the bachmann saga is that there is a sizable percentage of Americans who feel that she is viable for the job of POTUS.
That is a very scary statement on the overall mental health of the United States.
Reminds one of the fourth century desperation of Rome.

Michelle - maybe your sense of humor isn't so great. Or maybe you're just insensitive/ At a person's deathbed do you tell death jokes?

Is she a comedian or a religious fanatic? If God was was the facilitator of Irene he or she spared NYC and DC and slammed it to places where people like her live killing innocent people and destroying their homes and livelihood. If God was at the helm I would suggest Bachmann invest in a submarine for the next act of God.

Of coarse they were acts of God, whatelse would they be? But since we have been suffering from acts of God for all of history, I really don't see that Obama should be blamed this time. Mankind in general should be to blame and maybe God is trying to tell us something. It was just bad taste to make a joke about disasters that are not a joke to the people affected.

That's not what she meant at all and I'm here to tell you that documentation is soon going to be leaked concerning her long-standing treatment for clinical depression with psychotropic medications. My wife and I both left our GOP standing after being republicans for more than 38 years, all due to the absolute and unbelievable tactics and actions by the republican party over last decade, more recently their willful intent to cast the President of the United States as being associated with terrorists, the he wasn't born a U.S. citizen, creating blockade of efforts to balance the budget or raise the debt ceiling and to even go as far as to try and incite racial unrest toward him. We will never forgive the GOP for such immature and below-board tactics and intend to do everything in our power to prevent their rise to the White House ever again if necessary, including efforts to promote mentally unstable persons such as Michele Bachmann into power.

People, lighten up. It was a joke. Perhaps ill-timed, but everybody think for a minute. Have you all never made a joke that was ill-timed or possibly in bad taste? Have you all never laughed at a morbid joke or the Black Knight scene in Monty Python's Holy Grail? All levity aside, it sounds like many of you really need to take a close look at yourselves before blasting other people. Glass houses and all. Come on, just last week, people were making fun of the earthquake trying to decide whether it was "Obama's Fault" or "Bush's Fault" that caused it. Where was all the righteous indignation then? I tell you where it was. It wasn't.

What! The President not listening to the American people?! Get out of here! The President has selective hearing. Although he doesn't listen to the American people he does listen to:
    Pelosi and Reed.
    our enemies.
    radical leftists.
    radical ministers.
    and a "former terrorist".
We know Obummer can listen. So we know he chooses not to listen to us.

If she actually had a sense of humor, she would say something funny once in a while. I mean, intentionally funny, not like the $2 gas thing.

People died in both of those incidents. How could you possibly twist that into any realm of humor? Well here's some humor for you, Michele Bachmann. Why not talk about your long-standing treatment for clinical depression and endless prescriptions for psychotropic drugs to combat it. C'mon, where's your sense of humor?
