Bachmann points to 'great sense of humor' after God joke
(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann defended her recent comments about natural disasters in Washington, D.C. serving as messages from God, saying she was joking.
"I have a great sense of humor and I think it's important to exhibit that humor sometimes when you are talking to people as well," Bachmann said Monday at a campaign event in Miami. "Of course I was being humorous when I said that."
Her reaction was similar to her campaign's response Monday.
The Minnesota Rep. received criticism following statements she made over the weekend that equated the recent earthquake and Hurricane Irene to acts of God.
"Washington, D.C. you'd think by now they'd get the message," Bachmann said at a town hall in Florida Saturday to laughs. "An earthquake, a hurricane, are you listening? The American people have done everything they possibly can, now it's time for an act of God and we're getting it."
At Monday's event, Bachmann said the remarks were intended to tell the president he is not listening to the American people.

That's simple. They are called weather patterns. They are dictated by ocean temperatures, wind patterns, and other various readily available explanations that do not include a magic man in the sky.

Bachmann thinks it's a joke. Glenn Beck calls it a blessing. You tea-baggers got some rela winners out there in front of y'all. I imagine Rick Perry's position is something akin to seeing it as God's version of capital punishment. And yes, God executes the innocent...just like the state of Texas.

God WAS sending a message: that Global Change is real and people should change their ways before it's too late. THAT however, is a message that conservatives are failing to heed.

Humor is funny because it exposes "A Great Truth", and is, in fact, funnier when some people don't get it. So let's face it: Bachmann & her audience was laughing at Americans who suffered through all three events. Come snowstorm time, blizzard, spring rains or summer tornadoes, its a safe bet that Bachmann will exhibit a little more sensitivity. Ross Perot had a damn funny sense of humor too – we all know how far that got him.
Overall, I'm not looking for a Prankster-in-Chief.
I can't wait for her "hilarious" 9/11 jokes in two weeks.
