(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann defended her recent comments about natural disasters in Washington, D.C. serving as messages from God, saying she was joking.
"I have a great sense of humor and I think it's important to exhibit that humor sometimes when you are talking to people as well," Bachmann said Monday at a campaign event in Miami. "Of course I was being humorous when I said that."
The Minnesota Rep. received criticism following statements she made over the weekend that equated the recent earthquake and Hurricane Irene to acts of God.
"Washington, D.C. you'd think by now they'd get the message," Bachmann said at a town hall in Florida Saturday to laughs. "An earthquake, a hurricane, are you listening? The American people have done everything they possibly can, now it's time for an act of God and we're getting it."
At Monday's event, Bachmann said the remarks were intended to tell the president he is not listening to the American people.
Why is this joke-wench still in the news? Does anyone...ANYONE actually take her seriously as a political candidate?
There are many good lessons to be learned from the christian storylines and I have embraced many, but religious finaticism that degridates anyone or is used for personal political gain stains the true meaning of any religion which are acceptance, patiance, perceiverence
Joking.. I don't buy it Michelle...Why don't you go use your godly influence and help Perry pray for rain in Texas....God knows we sure need it....
If you have to say you have a "great sense of humor", chances are that you don't.
Why does the Republican party keep throwing up self serving, ignorant misfits and pretending that they are viable candidates for the the position of President of the United States. This is not a joke and the US public deserves so much better.
what a loser
She has a great sense of humor... sure, nothings funnier than a couple of natural disasters that killed several people, I bet the families that lost loved ones are rolling on the floor, laughing their heads off. Real good one Bachmann. What's next? Jokes about the jews who died in the concentration camps?
Well, now we know how Botox Bachmann would handle a natural disaster as President, she would use her "sense of humor" to make jokes about the deaths and destruction and then giggle.
Not exactly what I expect in a President.
So did the audience laugh hysterically or agree with her?
Catch her at the Funny Bone this weekend, 7:30 and 9:30. No drink minimum.
I'm sure she made those that lost a loved one or their home laugh with her Thoughtless comments. Would she be laughing while standing at the funeral?
I don't recall an earthquake or hurricane before the Tea Baggers got to DC. Who's not listening?
Don't make such a big deal of it, CNN. Most folks know better than to worry about that stuff. We'll decide on who to vote for without your trying to nitpick every phrase to death. And besides, you only nitpick on Republicans anyway.
Maybe this isn't as obvious as I think it is, but if you have to explain to people that you were joking, you don't have a great sense of humor.
Clinton certainly would not apporve of that over-bite!
Yo' moron Michelle, isn't the House of Representatives in D.C.?
Maybe God does NOT find any humor in the cuts the GOP have proposed that only affect those less fortunate among us?
Perhaps God was sending a message to the GOP and the tea baggers?
But then you wouldn't think it was funny, because there would only be slow lingering deaths.
Funny how people who think they have such a great sense of humor, or have a talent in any area, DO NOT. How pathetic. So far, she's even more so than Sarah Palin.
I'm STILL laughing at her first joke........the one where she says she is running for President.......LMAO....that was a good one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the only reason she is saying it is a joke , is because she got called out on it . she is no Christian . lets hear from those foster kids she milked the system off of . this women is a scum bag thru an thru !!!!!!!!!!!
Bachmann, ODonnell and Palin should get their own reality show. THAT would be funny.
Or scary.
Imagine if Ed Rollins had NOT decided to work on her campaign? What little discipline she has shown up to this point would never have materialized.
I saw nothing but blasphemy in her tasteless joke. Think of all the poor people victimized by this storm. If there was a message in all this Michelle maybe it's that you're not Presidential material...ha,ha,ha!!!
That's it.....you just ended your short lived fame...go away forever
We do not need wacko's in the whitehouse.
OK – i'll take you at your word, Mrs. Bachmann. You say it was a joke, and we should all lighten up? OK.
But now YOU get to take all the things people are saying about YOU with the same grace. No more complaining about the 'lamestream media'; no more saying that something is 'offensive', when someone calls you a Nazi, or a 'Media monger', or says you have 'Delusions of adequacy'. No more whining when people point out that you are certifiably insane, or that your ideas on how to run a country would put a kindergartener to shame. You cant get upset when we point out that you would be out of your depth in a parking lot puddle. No complaining when we say that you should be nominated as president-for-life of the Minnesota chapter of deluded fruitcakes anonymous. You should just accept it gracefully when we say that you have deprived a village somewhere of it's idiot. or that when your IQ reaches 50 you should sell. You wont get upset when we point out the inconsistencies of your message, or your muddled views on states'rights that flip-flop back and forth depending on the social topic. You'll just chuckle along when we point out your delusions of $2 gasoline, or the drill, baby drill nonsense. You'll smile and nod appreciatively when people say that you would drive this country into a ditch if ever through some bizzare cosmic miracle or improbability you somehow ended up as president.
Nope – you'll take it all in stride – 'cause you have such a fine-tuned sense of humor. Of course.
"I have a great sense of humor..."
So I was right, her campaign IS a big joke!
Scumbag candidate: claims they're joking when their Diarrhea Mouth once again gets the best of them.
