(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann defended her recent comments about natural disasters in Washington, D.C. serving as messages from God, saying she was joking.
"I have a great sense of humor and I think it's important to exhibit that humor sometimes when you are talking to people as well," Bachmann said Monday at a campaign event in Miami. "Of course I was being humorous when I said that."
The Minnesota Rep. received criticism following statements she made over the weekend that equated the recent earthquake and Hurricane Irene to acts of God.
"Washington, D.C. you'd think by now they'd get the message," Bachmann said at a town hall in Florida Saturday to laughs. "An earthquake, a hurricane, are you listening? The American people have done everything they possibly can, now it's time for an act of God and we're getting it."
At Monday's event, Bachmann said the remarks were intended to tell the president he is not listening to the American people.
Way to make light of a devastating disaster...skank
hahahahahahahahaha michelle bachmann. You're so funny!! people died, and billions of damage has been done, and you crack a joke about it!!! wow...i'm totally voting for you and your sense of humor.
What a gibbering idiot. I wouldn't give her a job at Taco Bell.
Really...joking....I think it sounds more like "covering your butt" for a gaffe you believe! And if it is a joke.....do you really find humor in others misfortunes? I just wish there was one republican out there that was willing to work with others to solve problems....like the unuemployment rather than jabs for attention.
the only thing funny here is that anyone actually believes in god.
The only person more possibly ignorant would be Palin.
She's gorgeous. She'd look so good with a broom in one hand and jiggling some eggs with the other.
No mention that the gubbermint shouldn't be involved in the emergency recovery bizness?
If any two people do NOT get the message, it is Bachmann and Palin!
She follows horrible theology with inappropriate humor. Not the sort of president I'd want (though I never suspected she might be).
If you have to say you have a sense of humor, you have none. Also, did you notice, no one laughed.
Was this her "I am not a Witch" moment?
Oh Lord, where do you find these 'ditz's'?? Alaska(Palin), Minnesota(Bachman), California(Pelosi) – why don't you people vote for someone with some intellect instead of these broads?
@ Gino You're right! Many people who think of themselves as Evangelicals have lost the ability to know rank blasphemy when they see (or utter) it. Steve Chapman had a great essay about that during the "W" years in Counterpunch. Not long and well worth the read.
She is soooooo full of sh1te. Just another wack job hoping to espouse her religious doctrine to the masses of morons.
So-called great sense of humor when people died and many people (elderly and disabled) still sitting in darkened homes/apartments? Bachmann is despicable; absolutely despicable along with the rest of the clownish GOP.
@Woman In California:
That's a copout to say that Behemoth and Leviathan are dinosaurs. Both creatures are from the mythologies of other Canaanite and non-Canaanite peoples who came into contact with the Israelites. Leviathan is briefly mentioned as a sea creature in Psalms and Behemoth is mentioned as a creature with legs like tree trunks that shook the earth when it walked in Job. Those brief descriptions alone aren't enough to declare them dinosaurs, and even less so when they happen to share their names with mythical creatures that are known to have NOT EXISTED from other religions in the area.
I hate it when people pretend to have all the answers.
"I have a great sense of humor"
Then why didn't you chuckle when asked if you were a "flake"?
HEY CNN – why don't you report on the speech she has on her website that starts out with "DOES ANYBODY HERE LIKE WHITE PEOPLE?" WHY DON'T YOU ACTUALLY TRY REPORTING FOR A CHANGE? Oh yeah, then you'd have to do some work. Stupid question – I never thought I'd agree with Sarah Palin, but you, CNN, are part of the lame-stream media!
Everyone should lighten up a bit. She should be taken at her word. It was a joke! judge the joke.
That tornado in joplin was really funny too.
Yeah, those people who were killed by Hurrican Irene really need to lighten up.
I guess she was joking also when she said an child serial killer starred in True Grit?
Yeah, a joke. If Obama had make any, and I mean any reference whatsoever to Allah in any way, for or shape this snake of a woman would have jumped to her neck. The little respect I had for her is gone. If I ever had any.
Things that make you go hmmmmm – Republican party full of right wing christians are the same ones that don't want to help their neighbours – want to get ride of medicare and medicaide, welfare and healthcare. They want to be able to sit on their front porch with a shotgun across their knees and shoot the first neighbour of theirs that comes to beg for food or shelter. You just have to love the loving, giving nature of these people!
