Bachmann points to 'great sense of humor' after God joke
(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann defended her recent comments about natural disasters in Washington, D.C. serving as messages from God, saying she was joking.
"I have a great sense of humor and I think it's important to exhibit that humor sometimes when you are talking to people as well," Bachmann said Monday at a campaign event in Miami. "Of course I was being humorous when I said that."
Her reaction was similar to her campaign's response Monday.
The Minnesota Rep. received criticism following statements she made over the weekend that equated the recent earthquake and Hurricane Irene to acts of God.
"Washington, D.C. you'd think by now they'd get the message," Bachmann said at a town hall in Florida Saturday to laughs. "An earthquake, a hurricane, are you listening? The American people have done everything they possibly can, now it's time for an act of God and we're getting it."
At Monday's event, Bachmann said the remarks were intended to tell the president he is not listening to the American people.

Really...joking....I think it sounds more like "covering your butt" for a gaffe you believe! And if it is a joke.....do you really find humor in others misfortunes? I just wish there was one republican out there that was willing to work with others to solve problems....like the unuemployment rather than jabs for attention.

@ Gino You're right! Many people who think of themselves as Evangelicals have lost the ability to know rank blasphemy when they see (or utter) it. Steve Chapman had a great essay about that during the "W" years in Counterpunch. Not long and well worth the read.

That's a copout to say that Behemoth and Leviathan are dinosaurs. Both creatures are from the mythologies of other Canaanite and non-Canaanite peoples who came into contact with the Israelites. Leviathan is briefly mentioned as a sea creature in Psalms and Behemoth is mentioned as a creature with legs like tree trunks that shook the earth when it walked in Job. Those brief descriptions alone aren't enough to declare them dinosaurs, and even less so when they happen to share their names with mythical creatures that are known to have NOT EXISTED from other religions in the area.

Things that make you go hmmmmm – Republican party full of right wing christians are the same ones that don't want to help their neighbours – want to get ride of medicare and medicaide, welfare and healthcare. They want to be able to sit on their front porch with a shotgun across their knees and shoot the first neighbour of theirs that comes to beg for food or shelter. You just have to love the loving, giving nature of these people!
