(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann defended her recent comments about natural disasters in Washington, D.C. serving as messages from God, saying she was joking.
"I have a great sense of humor and I think it's important to exhibit that humor sometimes when you are talking to people as well," Bachmann said Monday at a campaign event in Miami. "Of course I was being humorous when I said that."
The Minnesota Rep. received criticism following statements she made over the weekend that equated the recent earthquake and Hurricane Irene to acts of God.
"Washington, D.C. you'd think by now they'd get the message," Bachmann said at a town hall in Florida Saturday to laughs. "An earthquake, a hurricane, are you listening? The American people have done everything they possibly can, now it's time for an act of God and we're getting it."
At Monday's event, Bachmann said the remarks were intended to tell the president he is not listening to the American people.
God is upset but its for the stupidity of the way people are acting not because of spending Mrs. Ignorant
Did CNN's political unit bother to watch the video? Bachmann told this "joke" with a straight face. And nobody laughed.
It was obviously not a joke, to either Bachmann, OR her audience.
Maybe someone should explain to her how unfunny any joke is to the people affected by the natural (NATURE not RELIGIOUS) disasters.
Bachmann is a disgusting and ignorant person. She ACTUALLY believes "God" causes earthquakes and hurricances which is bad enough, but she also thinks it's a joke. 40 people and counting died with billions and billions in damage. Hilarious! Anybody who would vote for this dingbat for president is mentally ill.
This is just a big job audition for her. She has no desire at all to be president, the heffa just wants to be famous. Absolutely nothing to offer but the media follows her so she puts on her little suits and flag pin and smiles for the camera...no doubt she will land a job with Murdock, on radio or TV, get paid for speaking engagement to her ilk then...wait for it...mission accomplished.
If she was joking, she was taking God's name in vain, in a way she would refer to as "God-hating" if anyone "liberal" politician said it. It is blasphemy to speak that way in jest according to her own purported Christian beliefs. If she was serious, which of course she was (as anyone who has watched her for any length of time can assume), she is presuming to know God's mind.
I'm in Vermont, where every major thoroughfare has been washed out somewhere on its path, whole towns have been destroyed, and many communities are still completely cut off from any assistance because of the hit we took from Irene. No, Ms. Bachmann – you don't have a great sense of humor. You don't have ANY sense of humor. You are a thoughtless, heartless fool. Get on the air and apologize to the people of the Northeast, especially Vermont – and then go home and stay there.
People have died, Michele - you're a sick puppy if you think that's something to joke about.
Hey flake, here is another joke you can use. . . The earthquake occurred in constipated man's cantor district. Does that tell you anything???
BTW you are NOT funny you are a pathetic joke yourself!!!
Sense of humor? Maybe. However there is no question this woman has no brain..........
Michele, we're all laughing.........at you, not with you.
Ole 'Giggles Bachmann' is at it again!
Michele will be taking her natural disaster comedy tour to an Iowa town near you.
She is back pedaling and actually was NOT JOKING. And..she looks like a mule in this picture! Her brain is ther size of a pea and her world tiny. Independents, minoritys and gays will NEVER vote for her-she is screwed.
I think we all can agree a sure sign of a lack of a sense of humor is declaring in public "I have a great sense of humor". A good sense of humor is so obvious it needs no explanation.
.
Maybe Michele Bachmann will come out tomorrow and admit that her entire presidential campaign is a huge joke too.
I'll bet the people who lost loved ones and homes and everything they owned don't think there's a single thing funny about any of it (or Michelle Bachmann).
Gee, sort of sounds like those Islamic leaders who say this or that happened because Allah is mad at America...Hmmmm
What a stupid hypocrite she is! I'm from MN, have never voted for this individual, and I certainly wish she'd go away, along with Palin, O'Donnell, Perry and all the other right-wing nutcases out there.
Please give up your day job, Michelle.
You'll be a great comic.
If Michelle Bachmann knows God's intentions so well, maybe she can tell us why God hates Texas? A long drought there can only mean we should not vote for Rick Perry. While she's at it, maybe she can enlighten us, why does God hate Somalia?
She jokes about something that has killed and created such pain in Americans lives ! Come on ! And this is Presidential Material ? We are in trouble as a nation, when we actually have someone of likes this running for Presd. And she is an elected official ! We are in trouble !!
How heartless of her! Would she say that to the families you've lost loved ones in the flood? What? God took out their family members just to tick off the President!?
I don't see Mrs. Bachmann rolling up her sleeves to HELP those flood ravaged fellow Americans she professes to love and want to serve! "'Lead by example Lady!
Here comes the wack job I hate God crowd. Loon centrral
This woman is just plain NUTS.
I've always felt that, if you have to tell people you have a sense of humor, you probably don't. A sense of humor is either obvious or not. JFK had a sense of humor. He cracked self-denigrating jokes and made people laugh. My question is: Did her audience break into laughter or were many of them nodding their heads in agreement?
