Bachmann points to 'great sense of humor' after God joke

(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann defended her recent comments about natural disasters in Washington, D.C. serving as messages from God, saying she was joking.

"I have a great sense of humor and I think it's important to exhibit that humor sometimes when you are talking to people as well," Bachmann said Monday at a campaign event in Miami. "Of course I was being humorous when I said that."

Her reaction was similar to her campaign's response Monday.

The Minnesota Rep. received criticism following statements she made over the weekend that equated the recent earthquake and Hurricane Irene to acts of God.

"Washington, D.C. you'd think by now they'd get the message," Bachmann said at a town hall in Florida Saturday to laughs. "An earthquake, a hurricane, are you listening? The American people have done everything they possibly can, now it's time for an act of God and we're getting it."

At Monday's event, Bachmann said the remarks were intended to tell the president he is not listening to the American people.

Bachman has to tell every one it's a Joke and how great a personality she has to be so humorous. She is just so great, a Legend in her own mind. I hope her God protects all of us from her and her brand of what God wants us all to be and do. The Scripture according to Michelle Bachman, she got the submissive part wrong and has lied about most of the things she has claimed to be her legacy. But I guess it is ok for her to do that because after all she is Gods spokesperson in the government

Mmm..hmmm, "great sense of humor" Michelle except that people who are not crazy do not find natural disasters that kill people and cause massive amounts of destruction to be funny. We all know you meant this comment and now that there is some backlash you are going with the "joke" excuse. I'm from MN (not Bachmann's district thank God) and can tell you that this comment if far from the worst she has made. She is an extremist nutjob.

    What a despicable creature.

She says she was joking now. Was Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell joking when they said the same thing about other natural disasters? Was Perry joking when he said we need to pray because god is angry?

To any of the families and friends of the 38 people killed during Hurricane Irene – America does not see the humor in your lose. To those who were struggling before Hurricane Irene and now face floods – America does not find humor in your plight. Congresswoman Bachman is the type of woman who would invite you over for dinner then talk bad to others about the way you ate. At 9% – it will be over soon.

So God killing 41 people to teach Congress a lesson is a joke. Oh, yeah, ok, I get it. Yea, funny. heh heh.
If it wasn't a joke, she is delusional. If it was a joke, she's an idiot. Pick one.

I love how she can't even admit it was a poor choice of joke. These Republicans just can never admit a mistake, while Dems admit mistakes even when they aren't asked to.

Now that we know that God is to blame for our lot in life, we need to ask God if voting for a Republican, who outed God as the perp responsible for death and mayhem, will bring us future favor with God?

I cannot stand this Woman but even I cannot damn her for this statement. She was clearly joking. Everyone needs to lighten up and focus on the issues that matter most! Like her nonsensical and hypocritical desire to eliminate the EPA....Yeah sweetheart, nothing says Christianity like polluting God's beautiful creation so a bunch of greedy rich pigs can live high off the hog, all the while tarnishing God's greatest work. What a foul sack of hypocticial filth this scumbag woman is!

Oh yeah. I've always thought jokes about natural disasters, where people die or become homeless, are gut-wrenchingly funny. Real guffaw kind of stuff. Rev. Jerry Falwell thought 9/11 was God's way of punishing us for our acceptance of homosexuality and abortion. Maybe he was just joking and we didn't get it.

I can see it now...HEADLINE: "President Bachmann and VP Perry start WW3 over joke about God punishing the Chinese for believing in Buddha "
You right wing idiots haven't stopped to realize what a radical religious zealot is capable of doing to create an atmosphere of anger and hatred towards the American people and the American way of believing!

Okay, I kind of get her explanation. But, if she really feels that President Obama is not listening to the American people, what would a god have to do with that (assuming that one exists)? Are we to believe that Ms Bachmann knows what her "god" wants, as far as the President listening to "the people" (hey, Ms B, I feel that Mr Obama has heeded my wishes much more than you ever would)? This whole incident clearly shows why Ms Bachmann should not be running for President of the USA. I'm tempted to say "God help us if she wins!", but I'm afraid that she and her followers would fail to see the "humor".

She just managed to enrage everyone both religious and not with her actions. First ones were the non-religious like myself who thought she was crazy saying that god is sending us a message and now shes pissing off Christians saying it was all just a joke, which means she was using gods name in vein. If she wants to win, she should really learn to keep her mouth shut cause the only thing that has been coming out of it is crazy talk.

Yes, nothing says great sense of humor like cracking jokes about ongoing human misery and death for political point scoring. Also, Michelle.. if your god really wanted to send us a message about cutting spending, doing billions of dollars in damage with a natural disaster is probably not a great way to do it.

I'm not sure what's so funny about an Act of God but I guess if it's not your house floating away....If excellent communication skills are the hallmark of a president then she's failed already – you shouldn't have to explain a joke or assure people you have a great sense of humour.

Sure Michele, you may have thought you were being funny, but ask the people who have lost loved ones as a result of Irene. I doubt very seriously they found that humorous. There's a time and a place for everything, and this definitely not the time for that so called humor.

What a list of humorous quotes she has – there is this, there is $2 gas and there is her statement that she can fix the economy in one quarter – that's right, folks in 90 days a president Bachman will give you a strong economy and $2 gas. She is right – she does have a great sense of humor – she is the joke.
