(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann defended her recent comments about natural disasters in Washington, D.C. serving as messages from God, saying she was joking.
"I have a great sense of humor and I think it's important to exhibit that humor sometimes when you are talking to people as well," Bachmann said Monday at a campaign event in Miami. "Of course I was being humorous when I said that."
The Minnesota Rep. received criticism following statements she made over the weekend that equated the recent earthquake and Hurricane Irene to acts of God.
"Washington, D.C. you'd think by now they'd get the message," Bachmann said at a town hall in Florida Saturday to laughs. "An earthquake, a hurricane, are you listening? The American people have done everything they possibly can, now it's time for an act of God and we're getting it."
At Monday's event, Bachmann said the remarks were intended to tell the president he is not listening to the American people.
Oh it was a joke about a hurricane that killed 38 people so far? Oh well thats all right then.
You carry on laughing it up Bachmann, im sure their families can see the humor.
Is prejuice; or can she not campaigne without the mention of the great man in office.
Does she look retired or is it just me that see it?
Rule of thumb: if you have to say you have a great sense of humor....you don't have a great sense of humor. That and she made a joke about a disaster that's destroyed property and killed over 40 people. Hilarious.
Someone get the plunger so Michele can get out of the toilet bowl.
People died... its not funny.
If you listen to the video. She's not joking.
So she thinks she has a great sense of humor. What!!
If she thinks this is one of her "plans" she has another think coming. What was this woman think
Ing?
She is becoming dumb and dumber with ea passing day but if this is what the tea party wants to hear doesn't this speak volumes? I never knew how dumb the tea party was until Perry and Bachmann came on the scene as candidates. Just imagine either one of these two candidates in the WH. Religious freaks I think not!
The only thing worse about Michele Bachmann's sense of humor is her sense of intelligence, sensitivity and direction. This woman is psychotic. She'll be yesterday's news pretty soon.
Does Bachmann ever stop joking or celebrating the dead? Elvis and now the storm victims. Tell us how you are going to direct this country and bring back jobs if you want my vote for President. These are the real issues.
I find it amusing to watch all the liberals upset over this, as they try their best to remove God from everything else. More liberal hypocracy...it's nol even subtle anymore.
And this is the creme de la creme of the teapublicans. Bachmann even makes Bush look like Clarence Darrow. One thing in her favor, she is very flexible. Never saw anyone who could put both feet in their mouth at the same time. However, it does appear to hurt her. I hope!
Sorry, Michele, but your comments are far two close to Jerry Falwell's comments that Katrina was God's retribution for America's sins. Jerry also said that 9/11 was God's retribution. Can we expect Bachmann to remind us of Jerry on the upcoming 10th anniversary of that attack by making another "joke"?
The victims of hurricane Irene must not find Bachmann's joke funny at all. Bachmann's numerous verbal gaffs show her to be a thoughtless, impulsive, and insensitive person.
Jack from Illinois: "There's nothing funny about a natural disaster, and there's nothing amusing about a Republican pretending that there is." So it WOULD be funny if a Dem said it – is that what you're saying? See how it works picking apart what people say? Ridiculous. Of course it was a joke – a very lame/stupid joke, but obviously intended as a joke. Personally, I just wish she'd shut up and quit looking stupid. Trust me, she doesn't represent all Republicans any more than she represents all women.
I would never ever ever vote for her but yes she was joking, let it go. Her decisions are way to infuluenced by her faith for her to be president anyway. Blinded by it. Same as with Perry.
Note much difference between a "joke" and "regular political discourse" from the extreme right-wing religious crowd.
Michelle Bachmann is proof God has a sense of humor. a sick one, granted. she needs to be laughed off the public stage. she's not worth the electricity wasted covering her.
I didn't think it was possible to find a GOP Candidate who's less inteligent, a bigger baffoon and less qualified to be president of the United States than Sarah Palin, and yet, here she is......
about mrs bachmanns comment lot of peoples today forget that is only one god , he create the word where with live today ,today we forget this word is corrupt, moral, hate, we as human forget that is a god ,so dont forgetting he is not a joke. read the bible more.
frankly I find nothing humorous, appealing, or redeemable about you Bachmann. Your as dangerous as your sister Palin.
why is her comment a problem? whatever you believe her comment speaks directly to the fact that hte government has spent so much money that we don't even have the money to help/handle these disasters. i don't think it was funny but it was true.. how are we going to assist with these disasters since the current government has spent all the money.. why is that a bad comment? making a big deal out of this the way it has been is more than stupid
since when is death and destruction something to joke about. that was very insensitive. oh lord, save me from your followers, especially this woman....
The only joke here is the voters of MN-6. They sent her to Congress–the joke's on us. I'm dying of laughter.
Michelle isn't helping us women at all . . . could we please get a woman with a brain to run for office? Somebody? Anybody? Between her and Palin we've just been set back a few hundred years . . .
Michelle, you can do no wrong in your own eye. You seem to have an excuse for everything. If you truely believed in the Lord above, you would not have to use words like that, and later have to say, "Oh my, that was a joke." And if and I say if, the Lord was a conservative, he would have not given up his life so that we can live. You as a teaparty person, wouldn't even give up on the debt ceiling and your still talking about it. From what I see, money is your Lord, and that is sad.
There is a major difference between humour and candid. Your were very honest with your statemet and this comes to show how unpresdential and stupid you are.
