(CNN) - Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann defended her recent comments about natural disasters in Washington, D.C. serving as messages from God, saying she was joking.
"I have a great sense of humor and I think it's important to exhibit that humor sometimes when you are talking to people as well," Bachmann said Monday at a campaign event in Miami. "Of course I was being humorous when I said that."
The Minnesota Rep. received criticism following statements she made over the weekend that equated the recent earthquake and Hurricane Irene to acts of God.
"Washington, D.C. you'd think by now they'd get the message," Bachmann said at a town hall in Florida Saturday to laughs. "An earthquake, a hurricane, are you listening? The American people have done everything they possibly can, now it's time for an act of God and we're getting it."
At Monday's event, Bachmann said the remarks were intended to tell the president he is not listening to the American people.
And she still doesn't know what "submissive" means.
She also finds it necessary to show how ignorant she is, How prejudice she is. How much of a hypocrite she is. So we can understand why she would want to show her sense of humor as well.
He we go again with her backtracking on her statements. Here's an idea – maybe if she didn't make stupid statements she wouldn't need to backtrack! I'm an independent, but there is no way in hell I would vote for this crazy person.
Time for Bachmann to exit stage right.
So does Ms B think God is sending a message to the drought areas of God fearing Texas too?
"At Monday's event, Bachmann said the remarks were intended to tell the president he is not listening to the American people."
Well, that's good to hear. Because if you were intending them to be funny you failed completely.
Perry thinks just like this crazy broad, he isn't any better. But you know, the fear that this stupid country will possibly vote one of these idiots into the office of the Presidency sends chills down my spine!
MSH Miami, great point (although the death toll, sadly, has risen to 40) . Michelle and her ilk are incapable of admitting mistakes. It would make them look bad to their conservative constituencies, but reveals so much about her character.
When people are laughing AT you, it's not a sign that you have a great sense of humor. I guarantee it.
Do you people think you could make a comment that does not disparage someone ? Do you really have nothing to say about this woman except how crazy she looks or acts ? At least try to make a point on how you disagree with the political position. Or are you just sheep following the herd ? Please at least try , your getting too boring saying the same thing time after time .
Of course Michelle Bachmann has a great sense of humor. That's why she's running for President. The campaign is just her biggest joke of all! Thing is, if she really thinks a politician should listen to what the people are saying, she would take a message from her approval rating. People to Rep. Bachmann: "We don't agree with you. Please stop embarrassing yourself, your party, and your country." But she'd probably think we're just joking.
I guess people dying and suffering and losing everything is funny to some people.
Having Bachmann in D.C. is an UNNATURAL DISASTER. Congress woman? That must be quite a district in Minnesota, don't you know?
Making fun of an event that destroyed American homes and lives. Sounds like leadership material.
This is the conservative feminism at work - its OK to be a woman and be completely stupid - just be yourself and you can still be a huge success in life.
So what Ms. Bachman is really saying is...for all those sinners living in Washington DC and all those other East coast liberals, God is punishing you for your sins and for not being a Republican Right-Wing Ultra Conservative wing nut.
So what is God saying to all those people in Texas and Oklahoma that are burning up in the worst drought EVER. Hmmmm? What does Rick Perry and this dum-bag have to say about that? I guess it is just a natural occurrence for Texas, but for those North Easterners, pushishment. GIVE ME A BREAK! These people are idiots!
Can't the Republicans find someone smarter than these people?? I don't think Republicans value intelligence any more. They just want stupid people that follow blindly and drink whatever Koolaid they are given.
We always filter and put a break on whatever we say, unless a person is a comedian (which is known). This woman using this kind of humor is beyond any normal human thinking. Instead of meandering, she should come clean and admit it was the huge mistake.
Good that she has a great sense of humor. She will need it when she gets defeated in the primaries and doesn't land with the nomination.
Maybe Michelle and hubby's school should redirect its efforts to re-educate right wing extremists in the case for integrity, compassion, fact based truth, economics, intellectual competence and above all tolerance and stop wasting time trying trying to remake others sexuality and religous beliefs.
Lighten up a bit. If you saw the whole comment rather than the MSNBC sound bite you would understand. Should she have made such a joke probably not but she was making a political point. Sadly but true The politicians in Washington need a shake up.
She has alot of crazy going on! And, to think, so many people actually support her. Shows how far intelligence has dipped in this country.
Come on everyone lighten up! Everytime Bachmann says anything I LMAO!!!! and laughing is good for you. That's why people love clowns, they make you laugh, and she is doing her job really well!!!!
So we are supposed to know that it was a joke when she said that God was sending a message to Washington. "Of course it was a joke.", she said. Hmm, she also has said that God was calling her to run for president. We should all know that is a joke also.
Oh, You meant it, and are just making it worse for yourself, Bachmann.
You have to keep asking yourself: This person that made these remarks wants to be President of the United States? Absolutely unacceptable.
Oh yeah, she has a fantastic sense of humor indeed... and her timing to show it is even better... and this from a presidential hopeful ...
