Washington (CNN) – Organizers for Saturday's tea party rally in Iowa Tuesday blamed an internal miscommunication over the event's schedule for rescinding a speaking slot Tuesday for former Republican Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell.
The group had confirmed Monday that O'Donnell would speak. She would have been prior to the keynote from Sarah Palin which had raised the specter of the two on the same stage.
Ken Crow, founder of the Tea Party of America, said initially he was "under the assumption we had an open slot" after her supporters had inquired Monday about whether she could speak.
O'Donnell is on a national speaking tour for her book, "Troublemaker."
After the request for her to appear at the event was made to a fellow organizer, Crow looked at the speaking agenda and thought there was space for her. She was informed Monday she could speak, event co-organizer Charlie Gruschow told CNN Monday night.
Tuesday morning it was determined there was not enough time for her, Crow said.
"It was a schedule screw-up on my part," an apologetic Crow told CNN. "It is my fault."
Crow insisted the decision did not have anything to do with O'Donnell and controversies around her.
In a series of tweets Tuesday afternoon O’Donnell reacted. “I was honored to be asked to speak at the Iowa rally this weekend and accepted. Changed my flight to make it work.” In a subsequent tweet she added: “I am told things changed on their end & I will not be speaking. I truly wish them the best with this…important event.”
Palin's address is drawing interest from around the nation, according to Gruschow, who said he has not been given any additional information on what the former Alaska governor may discuss at the event.
"She will make a major statement at the event," Gruschow told CNN last week. "Whether it be an announcement to run, not to run, or lay a marker in the sand for other candidates."
The rally is meant to help promote the tea party values of limited government, the importance of the Constitution and fiscal responsibility, event organizers have said.
Just in time, someone noticed they already filled their stupidity quotient.
I thought Sarah Palin endorsed Christine when she was running for Congress and they were "friends"? Sarah needs to have ALL of the attention on herself and friend or not, she will back out of friendship/support, etc. as witnessed several times in Alaska. She shares the stage with no one.
Uh-oh. They'd better be careful. She'll cast a spell on them.
Would that have qualified as a remake of Dumb and Dumber?
Good idea, 2 idiots on stage at the same event is too much even for the Tea party.
I see a simpler explanation, Palin didn't want to share the stage with anyone smarter than her.
All you idiots, Sarah Palin had nothing to do with this.
Too bad, I was looking forward to her open lines, "hubble bubble toil and trouble"...how does it go," when shall we three meet again" etc.
The tea hags are doing this just to drum up some attention, check and mate media. Now all anyone will talk about is this KKK rally and how they stiffed O'Donnell for the next few weeks. Sarah is not running for anything she knows no matter if she is the nominee for Pres or VP from the GOP side, she will lose worse than 2008. So she will keep coming to these KKK Rally's, spewing hate about the rest of non white America, keep you idiot men who think this wrinkled hag is hot, emptying your pockets and keeping her rich. Check and Mate
LOL till Obama cleans their clocks in 2012. Then we can get make to normal. I hope.
WOW!! Pretty bad when you get culled by the Tea Party.
LOL! Maybe the Iowa Teabaggers figured had a moment of clarity and realized that they would be an even bigger joke if they featured both of these drooling idiots on the same stage.
How much you making for this speech? Ya, most likelly Sarah didn't want the competition. It certainly was not the controversies of her past or they wouldn't let Sarah speak either. Got to hand it to those tea baggers they sure know how to get in the news without really being relevant.
Oh one more disappointment......I was hoping for on onstage kiss like Madona and Britany. Guess not. Oh, well maybe next time.
"It was a schedule screw-up on my part," an apologetic Crow told CNN. "It is my fault."
Translation: Ken Crow got an earful of whining from Palin.
Too bad that they don'n cancel the quitter but the hate she started spreading continues.
It's embarrassing when even the teabaggers don't want anything to do with a witch!
I wish that the organizers would tell the truth, just one time in there life. The truth is, the organizers realized that they didnt wan TWO empty heads on the same stage at the same time.LOLLOLLOL
Bwahahaha...Jaberwocky Barbie gave them an ultimatum, don't you doubt it.
Ooops, someone forgot to check their Wicca day timer!
And now for the new opening act, ringling bros circus.
O'Donnell got hosed on that one. She was announced and then dropped like a stone. Well, there is only one loon to go gunning for at this event. Only one person's book to expect to be promoted.
Palin to christian and tea party supporters, Give me lots of money and I will give you all the hate, lies, and contraversy your little hearts minds can stand.
I guess the organizers don't want anyone's guts to hurt from laughing too much. They figured Palin was enough comedy.
Who said that prices always go up?! See, now you can get 2 idiots for the price of one! I love deflation! 🙂
Let's see them blame this on the "Lamestream Media"...what a joke.
