Washington (CNN) - The White House is promising President Obama's address to a joint session of Congress will finish up before 8:30 p.m. ET next Thursday, ahead of kickoff time in the NFL season opener between the New Orleans Saints and the Green Bay Packers.
"I can assure all you football fans he will be completed by kick-off," Carney said during his Thursday briefing to reporters.

Well, for those who care more about NFL players and their million dollar salaries – I say enjoy your game. For those of us who care about OUR FAMILIES and how to get jobs created – I say speak Mr. President speak. Take your pick NFL or JOBS?
The man ain't gonna miss his football.
Well, by then we would have heard the hairpiece the night before - what DID they tell him about his hair?!
Beavis Boner and Butthead Cantor ran on 'jobs, jobs, jobs,' but after their long undeserved congressional vacation, they do not seem to be interested in working with the president to create jobs.
Obama needs to get his message out to the people not the GOP controlled congress. The GOP controlled congress isn't serious about creating jobs or working with the President. The Repub/Tea Baggers have an agenda to destroy this country. Their current actions speak loader than words. The GOP/Tea Baggers almost pushed us into a government shutdown, pushed us into a credit downgrade. fought to kill medicare and medicaid, but they sure fought vehemently for those top 1% wealthy people to keep their tax breaks!
Football?? I thought that Jobs was the Issue #1 in this nation. Obama didn't cave people...it was a manufactured chess play to draw each and every Republican out of their caves. He will introduce a BOLD Jobs plan that is assured to offend those Republicans, and it will be on live television. He could have grabbed direct air time from the Oval office people. This is why it is called the "bully pulpit". This speech is the Kickoff.
@Ed Texas. So tell me, what is Obama's excuse for the first three years he's been in office? You know, when he had control over both the house and senate? Or does that go against your all too obvious of a extreme liberal agenda?
Its pretty hard to get concerned about teams of multi millionaires playing the first meaningless game of the season when there is a very real economic disaster going on, the millionaires will still play their game and get their paychecks if nobody watches.
