Palin meets diehard supporters on eve of big speech

Urbandale, Iowa (CNN) – Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin greeted hundreds of her most diehard supporters in an Iowa restaurant on Friday evening, the night before she headlines a buzzed-about tea party rally on Saturday.

Enthusiastic Palinistas who trekked from places as far away as Dallas and San Diego for Saturday’s rally jammed into the Machine Shed, a popular restaurant in Urbandale, for a meet-up event organized by Conservatives4Palin, the online destination for all things Palin.

Many of them recognized each other from the Conservatives4Palin usernames or Twitter handles that were scribbled onto nametags slapped onto pro-Palin T-shirts.

Palin was met by a reporter from Radio Iowa as she and her husband Todd arrived at the event around dinnertime after driving out from Des Moines.

Asked to opine on the current field of GOP presidential hopefuls, Palin mischievously claimed that another candidate could still join the fray.

“Happy with the field of candidates,” Palin said. "I always think that there’s room for more, though, because spirited debate and more competition will allow an even better discourse and a more rigorous discourse that the public deserves.”

As she and her husband, Todd, entered the restaurant, they were mobbed by the crowd and showered with repeated chants of “Run, Sarah, Run!”

Dozens of admirers whipped out their smartphones and digital cameras to document the scene, while an editor back at Conservatives4Palin curated the flood of tweets and reporter dispatches coming out of the event.

Palin worked the space for nearly an hour, posing for pictures and signing autographs. She did not address the crowd, but California attorney Peter Singleton, the self-appointed Palin political guru in Iowa, rallied the troops.

“There is no one who has the political courage and vision of this woman,” he said. “If she runs I believe she will win the nomination and I will believe she will win the general election.”

The Palins and their staff left soon after and returned to their Des Moines hotel.

Hundreds of Palin lemmings thronged to a small restaurant in Iowa. So what? This is news? They are probably the total amount of fans across this entire country. Palin can't gather them locally, they have to come from every part of this country to amass a crowd large enough to feed her ego. That should tell ya something Palin! Go ahead and run lady, but you haven't got a prayers chance of ever winning the nomination.

This woman is the Paris Hilton of Politics. She is only in it for the attention. She obviously isn't concerned with her family judging by their track record of failures, nor is she concerned with her own miserable failures. She couldn't even handle a job as a governor of a sparsely populated state, yet she wants to tell everyone how to run the country. Sarah, do the country a favor and go feed yourself to a polar bear. We'll remember you. Honest. Who were we talking about?

There are certain people that I want to be smarter than me. I want my doctor, superintendent, mechanic, and many others in specialty fields. I certainly want my president to be smarter than me. Unfortunately, Palin is NOT. I think she would make a good neighbor (if she tore down the 20 ft. fences) but that is about as far as it goes. The conservatives are hoping for that magic person to arrive and lead them to the promised land (presidency) but she isn't the one. She is on a $$$ tour. Sorry.

The longer she hasn't announced that she's in, the longer it will will be before she's out. Can you imagine her as "leader of the free world?" [pause to laugh] Neither can I.

Those hundreds of die hard fans coming from all over the country to see the clown are the only people that will vote for her if she's nominated. That would put Obama = 15,000,000 and Palin = 200. I'd call that a woopin'.

Please CNN, try to make your liberal agenda a bit less obvious. Calling fans of a conservative politician (who you print about three stories on per day, despite her having absolutely no relevancy to the economy on the upcoming election) diehards is a bit too blatant for my tastes.

This woman is like your crazy aunt. You can barely tolerate her antics anymore, but she won't go away.

The progressives ideal presidential candidate will be an evolutionary homosexual atheist. So why don't they present one for the presidency if they think the majority of americans are on their side – stop whining. By the way, the colleges were started by religion -how about that. Its sad
What the brain washing of the leftist professors can do. Palin will win and the american dream of becoming rich will once again be a reality.

Palin's running alright, running from debates. She's limited, she knows it and speaks in garble which makes no sense whatsoever and as for Todd, he's way out of his league and you'd think he'd try to further his education past high school.

I'd love to meet one of these people. Simply being uneducated, emotionally fragile, and intellectually obtuse can't be enough for someone to fall for sarah's blatantly nonsensical schtick. There's got to be another fundamental flaw in a person to be drawn to her. I'd bet their is a shared flaw between all of her supporters.

Sadly, there were people in that crowd crazy enough to think that Palin has a vision for this country. Very sad for this country. What have we come to?

Oh my goodness, she still has fans??? Apparently she is not the only one who would have trouble spelling cat if you spotted her the c and t. The sad situation is that compared to most of the Republicans candidates, she appears really bright. Paraphrasing Socrates; she is not smart, but she appears smart while standing with the rest of the candidates.

Of course her supporters will have to have someone explain that to them.

Who will want to be governor when one can be president. Don't underestimate the power of a woman. Sarah palin will be our first woman president. Madam president PALIN!

And from those far away places she could only get a few hundred to show up. I guess people are finally waking up to the fact that she's an idiot.
