Paul hits the bike trail

Lake Massabesic, New Hampshire (CNN) - Politicians often seek to portray youthful vigor, but at age 76 Congressman Ron Paul may have to work harder than others.

He showed Friday he's up to the challenge.

Paul, who famously rides his bicycle for exercise throughout the sticky, sweltering summers in Houston, Texas, invited some New Hampshire staffers and reporters on an hour-long bike ride around scenic Lake Massabesic outside Manchester, New Hampshire Friday afternoon.

The sun was shining, a breeze was blowing, and the temperature in the North Eastern state was a temperate 72 degrees.

"It looks like the temperature's about perfect," Paul said, when a reporter asked if he missed the Houston humidity, though he noted summer workouts weren't all bad. "I think when you ride in all the heat and humidity you burn calories faster."

The wiry fiscal iconoclast tries to walk three or four miles in the morning and ride ten to 15 miles on his bicycle in the evenings. He reported his resting heart rate was 58 to 62 beats per minute and his blood pressure was 120 over 70 or 65.

Before kicking off, Paul spoke to a small group of reporters who were not dressed for riding. The long-time congressman, who hosted a town hall in the first-in-the-nation primary state Thursday night and has spent time retail politicking here, said he welcomed the visit of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on Labor Day.

"The more the merrier," he said. "They just divide up all the opposition. They don't take votes from me."

He said he was surprised and encouraged by the groundswell of support for his campaign in New Hampshire.

"Each time I come up here we get new people, new support," Paul said. "The crowds get bigger. We always plan to have a little gathering, get 50 people together, and sometimes we get hundreds of people together."

After the ride, Paul careened back into the parking lot without having broken a sweat. He joked that during the hour ride he'd covered 32 miles (it was actually about 7.4).

Asked by the media if the ride might serve a metaphor for his campaign, Paul happily obliged.

"We're in good shape and ready and raring to go," he said.

The route he took was actually 8.5 miles, not 2.5 miles.

Most Americans don't care what Ron Paul says because they are not smart enough to know where the money went, it went to the "Fat Cats" people and guess what there is no plan for you to share in the wealth. So keep being blinded sighted while the "Fat Cats" keep feeding you a bunch of baloney. They know how money works, it works for them and not for you and they will keep feeding you the same old bad news about Obama because they know your weakness while they are laughing all the way to riches and if you think they care what color you are, wrong, think again.

Obama does a photo op in waters that kinda sorta look like it might be in the Gulf of Mexico to convince you stupid Americans to go ahead and eat seafood laced with oil and dispersants. Yet liberals love this. They sit there like a bunch of monkeys clapping their hands, because; "Obama is for stopping the wars, uh, i mean, uh, uh he's a Democrat."

Don't worry, unlike most other politicians, Ron Paul wouldn't use a cent of your tax payer dollars to pay for his healthcare. In fact, he said that he used to work at a catholic-based hospital that took people in without charging them a cent. I am sure that a man of his integrity would stay true to the fact that if he gets hurt, that he would pay his way.

Ron Paul has some very good ideas. Many of them will be put into play gradually. I wish people would give him his due. Just because he doesn't want to keep the same ole song and dance going people call him crazy.

Also, those commenting on "girls bike" or "dehydration" are idiots. The bike is not a girls bike and Ron Paul didn't talk about losing weight, he talked about burning calories. Idiots.

As an Army vet Ron has my support he is the only one that realizes that what we do is counter productive to our national security, night raids on the civilian population and deaths of innocent civilians only motivates people to join in more numbers this extremist groups. My brothers in arms should not die for another country specially if we are not wanted there. He predicted the housing bubble and he will get rid off the federal reserve. He has 30 years of consistency that is good enough for me. Obama got voted in because he was a great speaker, had no track record. Ended up being just a big disappointment.

It so amazing that there are good people out there bad mouthing Ron Paul on economic domestic policy when he's the only candidate who warned congress about the housing crisis & financial collapse. He has credibility! Please, try to do more reserch on him and stop listening to neocon or "liberal" talk radio or watching these so-called "mainstream" news stations that form opinions for you. Try to find out the WHY and the HOW behind his reasoning, and read the US constitution. Be objective and logical, not emotional and biased.

Everyone here knocking on a 76 yr old man who is in better shape than probably 40% of his supporters, or the rest of America for that matter. Also everyone says he is insane and has no chance, lets sit back and look at some "insane" facts:

    1) 3 "Conflicts" I mean wars
    2) $14.5 trillion in debt
    3) $300 billion/yr in debt interest
    4) 37th healthcare in the world
    5) Lower and lower educational standards
6)Ever growing elite rich class, and shriveling middle/worker class
    7) Federal Reserve bank which onctrols money supply/flow/inflation, kind of shady?

And you think Ron Paul is insane? On the contrary I believe the last 50 yrs of American policy are INSANE...

What asinine comments and attacks on Dr. Paul. If you are forced to resort to personal attacks it shows how desperate you are and how lost. How about you post some facts about how your ideas and how they are better than Dr. Paul's so we can all laugh at your ignorance of economic matters.

If Republicans want the best chance to win in 2012 then Paul is their man. What is the worst nightmare of the far-left? The thought of a Presidential debate between Paul and Obama.

Moderate Democrats like myself are paying attention, Republicans. If you want to continue posturing, then nominate Perry or Bachmann. If you want a chance at our vote, then nominate Paul.

Romney or Huntsman? Hmm .. maybe, but not as strong as Paul.

Really? Deregulation in the Gulf? That is akin to blaming gravity for a plane crashing, it begs the question of what factors LED to it happening. I truly hope that this is a joke or else you have shown just how ill-informed you are. It wasn't "deregulation" that allowed BP to have a cap on liability. It was law. That is regulation. It wasn't deregulation that FORCED BP to drill in deeper waters where a diver couldn't reach. It wasn't deregulation that caused the fiscal crisis in 2008, it was artificially low interest rates, Fannie and Freddie purchasing toxic mortgage backed securities allowing banks to dish out more loans than they otherwise would, it was easy credit, it was the CRA and the threat of legal action in the absence of compliance, it was a tax code that encourages mortgages instead of renting or outright owning a home and a too big to fail mentality.

Do some homework rather than search for a boogie-man to justify government intervention. The government has done many wonderful things, but they also mess up quite a bit. It is fine to not trust and question government actions, that is what we were founded on and why we have lasted as long as we have.
    GOP Reality Check
"Ron Paul is a joke .. always has been. He makes up for the intelligence of his foreign policy with his asinine domestic fiscal policy of working with republicans to further deregulate everything so corporations could destroy more lives while increasing their profit margins – because you know ... deregulation worked out so well for the financial industry in 2008 and the Gulf Coast last Summer. Anybody who would vote for him is just as clueless (and quite possibly senile) as he is."
