Tampa, Florida (CNN) – Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is backing Rick Perry for president, a major endorsement for the Texas governor as the campaign for the Republican nomination enters the crucial fall stretch of the primary calendar, a source tells CNN.
Jindal is on his way to Florida and will be Perry's guest at Monday night's "Tea Party Republican Debate" broadcast on CNN from Tampa, the source said. Jindal is expected to formally make the announcement prior to the debate.
On Monday, Sept. 12th, CNN will broadcast the "Tea Party Republican Debate," live from Tampa, Florida at 8 p.m. ET. Follow all the issues and campaign news leading up to the debate on CNNPolitics.com and @cnnpolitics on Twitter.
Jindal released a statement Monday saying, “Rick Perry is the candidate who can lead our party to victory in 2012."
“His record on job creation simply cannot be beat, and the one million jobs he’s helped create as governor is a stark contrast to the 2.4 million jobs lost on President Obama’s watch."
Earlier in the day, Tim Pawlenty endorsed his one-time rival, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, for the GOP nomination. Pawlenty, a former Minnesota governor who dropped out of the race last month, will be Romney's guest at the debate.
An interview with Jindal will air exclusively Monday evening on CNN's "John King, USA."

Oh, goody! Another endorsement. I support the once-democrat-now-a-republican Perry because he likes to live in a $10,000.00 per month mansion paid for by taxpayers.
Now, excuse me while I go scavenging for plastic. I need it to repair the cardboard box I live in. I hear rain is heading this way.
Piyush Jindal endorsing a flip flopping, coke snorting, D student adulterer? Sounds about right.
Well, we have heard your criticism of the Obama administration. But what are your solutions for fixing the problems your republican party created?
"We can do Anything"
Stupid endorses Stupid...........
You vote for this teapublican or the other they are one and the same. They all belong to the party of NO. Just wait and see once the GOP takes control of the house, senate and white house the american people wil be victims to their radical agenda. They will repent like winsonsin but it will be too late.
LOL! Nice pick "Bobby". Makes sense though sense both states rank low in education and insured citizens - not to mention both states are frequently needing that gubmint money that they despise so much.
It's official. Jindal is a couple of mudbugs short of a gumbo.
So the GOP is going to put forth an anti-government, anti-Social Security, anti-Medicare / Medicaid, anti-eduction, anti-science Bush-clone (but dumber) secessionist? Good luck with that. At least now the whole country will see just exactly how much the GOP hates America and the middle-class, by their endorsements of this flawed and dangerous candidate (Palin, Bachmann, Gingrich, Cain, Santorum, and Paul are equally as bad).
An speaking of rain, did Texas ever get the rain that Perry prayed for a few months ago? Did Jeebus another his prayers?
Perry was once a democrat and he betrayed his party for fame. He is a traitor. Be ware of him!
1 "Big Dummy" supporting another "Big Dummy"
I'm sure Bobby will send Rick a nice piece of gold from the pot he gets from oil companies.
I thought Jindal had some sense but his choice to endorse the anti science, lover of executions , self proclaimed evangelical except that he loves execution who has the state with the most uninsured, the least well educated and more low paying jobs who is also against social security, unemployment and even the minimum wage is just shocking to me.
Obama Biden Please Lord
Who will be the moderators for this debate?
Well, I guess now that the media has decided that the only two Repub contenders are Parry and Romney, the VP nominee-wannabees are really lining up!
Jeez. Who would have thought. The bullied and the bully join up. Maybe Perry threatened to beat him up?
Oh, that really mades me want to change my mind about Perry, One nut endorsening another nut. How did these people get in office, I did not realize how bad it had gotten.
HaHaHaHa!!! Pyush is endorsing Perry. Now Pyush can completely disavow himself of his science degree and drag Louisiana back into the dark ages. What's next Pyush? Making it illegal for women to go to school. WIth any luck at all (although Pyush is not really what the Tea Baggers view as one of them) Pyush will run as Perry's VP and we will be rid of him in Louisiana.
With Parry's IQ and the way he squirms around when he sits on a chair and talks, combined with Jindal's goofy walk and demeanor, boy, that's a pretty funny package!
Neither one of these two losers are getting my votes in their respective elections!!!
What this endorsement really means is "LA is far too close to TX for me to pick one the saner candidates like Romney or Huntsman."
who really cares who 'Swamp Boy' wants to endorse?? Stay in the bayou & wrestle them there gators & crawdads, lol
Jindal and perry make a good pair of candiates out to destroy Soc-Sec. and medicare. The Tea party and the rest of the Gop want the working man to have nothing. The funds of these Insurances should have been in a secure Account ,used only for the purpose it was intended. Presidents and congress have miseused these funds.I still do not know how Jindal got elected Governor
Sorry, I can't look at him without thinking how schooled he got by Kenneth the Page...
