1. Round two of the Perry-Romney slugfest? It started in Wednesday's debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, when Texas Gov. Rick Perry, the new guy in the race and the front-runner in the national polls, and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the previous front-runner, sparred over jobs creation and Social Security.

Tampa, Florida (CNN) – Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is backing Rick Perry for president, a major endorsement for the Texas governor as the campaign for the Republican nomination enters the crucial fall stretch of the primary calendar, a source tells CNN.
Jindal is on his way to Florida and will be Perry's guest at Monday night's "Tea Party Republican Debate" broadcast on CNN from Tampa, the source said. Jindal is expected to formally make the announcement prior to the debate.

Washington (CNN) – Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney announced today that he supports Sen. Orrin Hatch's, R-Utah, 2012 reelection bid. The endorsement, however, has Romney wading into some already unfriendly waters.
FreedomWorks PAC, a leading grassroots conservative organization, announced in June that it would launch a "Retire Orrin Hatch" campaign because the group believes the 34-year Senator has to often moved to the left on issues.

Tampa, Florida (CNN) - Tim Pawlenty, who endorsed Mitt Romney for president Monday, will attend the Republican Tea Party Debate as one of Romney's guests.
Pawlenty, a former Minnesota governor who dropped his bid for the Republican presidential nomination in August, will serve as the national co-chair of Romney's campaign. In that role, Pawlenty will serve as a top campaign surrogate for the former Massachusetts governor.

Tampa, Florida (CNN) - Hours before the start of the first-ever CNN/Tea Party Republican debate, a new national survey indicates that Texas Gov. Rick Perry is maintaining his lead in the race for the GOP presidential nomination.
And according to a CNN/ORC International Poll, what appears to be Perry's greatest strength - the perception among Republicans that he is the candidate with the best chance to beat President Barack Obama in 2012 - seems to be exactly what the GOP rank and file are looking for.
