Fact Check: Did the stimulus create "zero" jobs?

(CNN) - The Statement: Texas Gov. Rick Perry said at Monday's CNN/Tea Party Debate that President Obama "had $800 billion worth of stimulus in the first round of stimulus. It created zero jobs. Four-hundred-plus billion in this package, and I can do the math on that one. Half of zero jobs is going to be zero jobs."

The Facts: A more accurate jobs count may come from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, which estimates the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, also known as the stimulus bill, "increased the number of people employed by between 1.4 million and 3.3 million" in the second quarter of 2010 alone. The budget office also states that well over half a million jobs were funded in each of the other three quarters of 2010.

    if you tell a lie often enough and try to re-inforce without facts, more people will tend to believe it. The politics of Karl Rove at work.

    @Four and the Door:
    The Obama administration has added $1.2T in *actual* new spending over the past 3 years. Half of that went to the Stimulus, most of the rest went to the wars.

    The Bush administration added over $6.5T in *actual* new spending over the course of their 8 years in office. That would include the wars, the drug program giveaway, the infamous tax cuts, and more. I will not hold the $100B Dep't of Homeland Security against them, but I will point out that he basically created a second Defense Department. That agency is comprised of over 40 separate sub-agencies, all of them created since 2001.

    Hey, 4-door, regarding " the government sucking $800 billion out of the economy ", it didn't happen; no taxes were raised to pay for the Stimulus. One third of the Stimulus was tax cuts, and as repugs say, tax cuts don't cost anything since it's your money anyway. The other two thirds of the money was borrowed, but the revenue from jobs gained more than makes up for the cost over time.

    There is a reason the jobs outlook has been slower than any other time in recorded history. Some do not learn from history and they have to actually repeat mistakes from the past in order to change behavior and the same applies to our government. We have a President who is h@ll bent on repeating mistakes of the past and we are getting our head handed to us. Change is coming.....
