Boehner: No tax hikes for super committee

Washington (CNNMoney) - House Speaker John Boehner drew a line in the sand on Thursday, saying that a special debt committee tasked with cutting at least $1.2 trillion from federal deficits shouldn't consider tax hikes.

"Tax increases ... are not a viable option for the Joint Committee," Boehner said in a speech to the Economic Club of Washington, D.C. "It's a very simple equation. Tax increases destroy jobs. And the Joint Committee is a jobs committee. Its mission is to reduce the deficit that is threatening job creation in our country."

This (R) party is something else isn't it? It doesn't matter how many people need jobs or what the economy looks like – just as long as they can (stampede) their fat arses into the WH again. It is truly amazing how forgetful and stupid some people are to allow this to happen AGAIN. Giving the (R)s the keys to the WH is like giving a gunman a bigger gun to use on YOU. I really hope people come to their senses before it's too late or this country is doomed.

I challenge anyone to go look up the US Dept. Of Labor statistics, especially those written during the BUSH years, and look at how unemployment rose since 2003. Boehner claims that tax cuts increase jobs, well the last of the Bush Tax Cuts were enacted in 2003, and from 2004 forward, you see a steady rise in unemployment during what was supposed to have been the golden years of the Bush economy. It was the golden years for the rich elite, but it was the start of downward spiral for the middle class. The BTCs retarded jobs growth. The Bush administration's own statistics clearly demonstrate it as fact.

Well since you are not on the committee Man from Tan, what does this mean? As usual, you immediately throw a caveat into any discussion. "We're open to ideas EXCEPT NO TAXES" That is not being open minded

Same old failed policies … tinkle down economic does not work, except for maybe makers of luxury goods. Fix the Economy and then the Dept will fix itself.

All House Speaker John Boehner wants to do is put more money in the hands of the few individuals that are now your puppet masters and then they will route a portion of that money back to you.

House Speaker John Boehner only cares that he personally can achieve the American dream. He does not care if Americas middle class diminishes into nothingness.

What is the point of taxing us all so much if they turned around and lost our money to Solyndra?????? $527,000,000 down the drain, wasted tax payers money. I am sure those Solydra executives are enjoying are tax money in boats, houses, airplanes, vacations, cars, college tuitions, medical care, jewelry, parties, etc....and whatever money they are hiding in Zurich.

The only people that should have to pay higher taxes are such people as the Hollywood millionaire actors, producers etc.., millionaire politicians, millionaire journalists, millionaire business executives, millionaire owners of major corporations, millionaire major stockholders, millionaire sports figures, and all those silicone valley billionaires. I am sure the IRS knows who all these millionaires are. Please leave the rest of us small fish alone.

Boner - letting the tax breaks end for the top 2% and big oil do not destroy jobs. That lie has laready been exposed as a fraud. Thinking people besides the "liberal elite" are not buying that story any more.
I'm an American person, and John Boehner does not (nor his lackey Cantor) speak for me.

  9. As GM goes, so goes the country...Unions/Democrats killed GM, now they are killing the country

Oh come John!! If the Democrats don't get their tax hikes how are they going to maintain their huge government entitlement programs and huge government bureaucracy? Their union buddies count on this for their survival. And of course you'll get lablled as a baby/Grandma killer. Can't you just let them take 95% of everything we make? I'm sure they will build a wonderful world with it. We can trust them. hahaha

Boner moved the goal post again. He has made it impossible to have any job creation until after the 2012 election. Until today, 20 million people had some hope, but the orange man dashed it.

Boner dashed any hopes of some relief for the 20 million who need relief and jobs. He ensured that no job creation bill will occur until after the Nov. 2012 election. Fire Boner 2012!

No. No. No. The pat answer to all discussion, and the center of all republican vocabulary. If the American people, allow this to go on much longer, the rest of the world and the people therein are going to see us for what we really are. Hypocrites. We talk of and proclaim we believe in democracy, but allow the party that believes in monarchies, and total rule to lord over every aspect of our lives. They preach smaller goverment, and fewer taxes on the wealthy. Yet in the next breath, and from the other side of the mouth, they want to have control over how much health care you deserve, how much compensation your worth, and what you can and can not do in your own home. The hypocracy is so thick you could walk on it.

STFU John and cut the damn deficit through a 5% across the board reduction in all cabinet-level organization budgets, by dropping $300B per year out of DOD spending, rasing the cap gains tax to the same level as regular income, increasing the top marginal tax rate to 40% from 35.6%, and eliminating all corporate subsidies and tax loopholes except those in nacient industries we want to advance.

"Tax increases destroy jobs." And so do spending cuts. By that logic, the committee should do nothing.

Mr. Boehner has it all backwards. The wealthy companies are making more money . Time to pay their share of taxes.
Mr. Boehnr has no backbone. He is afraid of the Tea Party Group in Congress. When did he become a trooper for the rich and not caring about the unforunate ??

    Note to John:
Get over yourself, Orange Julius. You are not on the committee and have no say in the matter. Moreover, tax cuts DO NOT CREATE JOBS, at least in this country. If they did, John, we would have maybe…maybe 2% unemployment, but we do not. We have 9+% and tax cuts to the wealthy have been granted THREE TIMES!

Listen to American people, John! We want, no we DEMAND, jobs. Jobs, Jobs, Jobs! Oh, I can hardly wait until 2012 when the voters kick you and the rest of the Teahadists to the curb! You will go down in history, John, as the Speaker of the most inept House of Representatives ever elected to office!

I really don't understand what he is missing, heck for that matter what all the GOP is missing!! How many years have companines had tax cuts? How much profit did big corporation make in the last few years? How many folks have they been hiring? I mean, it seems to me companies have gotten use to working with less and wanting more, so they can keep their high profits. So I am sorry Mr. Boehner, but to me you need to force their hands, either hire folks or pay higher taxes it is real simple!! These dudes are nuts!!!

Tax increases destroy jobs? Bush's unfunded tax cuts did not help the loss of 8 million jobs in Bush's last three years as president. One might say that tax cuts do not create jobs.
