Washington (CNNMoney) - House Speaker John Boehner drew a line in the sand on Thursday, saying that a special debt committee tasked with cutting at least $1.2 trillion from federal deficits shouldn't consider tax hikes.
"Tax increases ... are not a viable option for the Joint Committee," Boehner said in a speech to the Economic Club of Washington, D.C. "It's a very simple equation. Tax increases destroy jobs. And the Joint Committee is a jobs committee. Its mission is to reduce the deficit that is threatening job creation in our country."FULL STORY
Boner you need to sit down and hush up for a while! let the comittee do its work! and could you also do ssome soul searching? i think you lost yours!
So the speaker is OK with major cuts in defense spending? To say that half the debate is off limits is to guarantee that the committee will never reach its goals. And that means the automatic spending cuts kick in.
Realistically, tax rates, as well as income taxes as a percent of GDP, are far lower than they have been in decades. It will cost me more than I like, but we need to end the Bush tax cuts.
Oh and get ready to cut military spending as well as medicare...one goes they all go...see how ur military industrial corps. like that. oh they wont mind they will just move to china...as long as the middle class suffers you are ok with that!
Boo-Hoo yo have NO new ideas on how to generate jobs for us. Heck, you have NO ideas so..........pass the Jobs Act, right away, then you can go have yourself a good cry in your favorite beer.
PASS THE BILL BOO-HOO!!!!!!!!!
Wow, once again I am COMPLETELY shocked that the Republicans are once again saying "No!". Is any group on the planet more useless?
Boehner come election time you will be in the unemployment line like MANY AMERICANS!!!!
I guest money will still be sucked up out of our economy from our tax payers to finance new ventured over seas by the rich. These repugs keep yapping about tax cuts and deregulations to make corporations expand in America. First of all America is already saturated with businesses. Furthermore the dwindling demand ion economy is reaching crisis level. Businesses are branching out into emerging markets to tale root, so they can branch off just like the stock markets. Why should big businesses expand, paying all these middle class wages, they pay trucks, ships and airplanes to bring their goods overseas, when they can simply go where their over seas customers at and pay workers minimum wages and cut cost by cutting out middle class wages. Lesson we need to work on our country and create demand here to support our small businesses in america, that don't have the luxury to skip town when they get greedy. Tax the rich and rebuild our country boner and keep the money in America.
Thanks, Jimbo for usurping the power of the Commitee. Is there anything else that the minority you represent wanst to dictate to the majority? The is no other way to view what is happening in Washington than to conclude that the GOP are "Democracy Killers". If you think that their conduct is dictatorial now, just hand them the keys to the Senate and the White House and we will all be living in company towns owned by the mega-rich and protected by the GOP. Open up your eyes and ears America and register to vote and show up on election day this yeara and next year.
Sorry Mr Speaker, the majority of Americans have spoken and support raising taxes on those who can afford to help, your premise has been proven wrong by 10 years of tax cuts and no Jobs. Cut the grandstanding an get the Jobs Bill passed. Your BS no longer even carrys entertainment value.
President Obama makes the hard decisions to keep the economy up and running. John Boehner, not so much. Been waiting for our "on vacation more than off vacation" Speaker of the House to explain why the market suddenly took a deep drop and has seemingly stayed low during HIS watch. Oh, yes. Waiting for American jobs, too. Real jobs. Walmart door greeter ain't cutting it.
