Perry tells social conservatives to pray for Obama

Orlando, Florida (CNN) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Thursday asked an audience of social conservatives in Florida to pray for President Barack Obama.

"As I campaign for president, I not only ask you for your vote and your support, I ask you for your prayers," Perry said. "I ask you to pray for our country. I ask you to pray for our president to give him wisdom, to open his eyes."

Perry was addressing a rally organized by the conservative Faith and Freedom Coalition ahead of Thursday night's GOP presidential debate in Orlando.

As he was deciding whether to run for president, Perry said prayer played a powerful role. The governor said he couldn't have entered the race "without being driven to my knees on many occasions."

Oh great! Now in addition to wanting to be President, Perry wants to be Head Minister of the Church of the United States of America. People can pray however they want, but we certainly don't need politicians to tell us when, where, how and what to pray about. If Perry thinks he hears voices telling him what to do, I'd say that's a great reason not to vote for him!

Well, Perry prayed for rain here in Texas and we got horrible wildfires. If any of the gods actually listen to Perry, expect the worst.

Perry is all fluff and no stuff. He is insincere and unenlightened. It's all about him and nothing about people.

20% of Texas was experiencing severe drought.

Perry called for a state prayer for rain.

Within a month the area of Texas experiencing severe drought more than doubled.

Then Texas caught on fire, the biggest fires in the state's history ( Perry begged Obama for Federal money).

Seems Obama should be praying for Perry.

I very much dislike religion being brought into politics. I t turns me off. I have my own beliefs. I think Perry and other GOP candidates should save it for Sunday if they want true credibility.

And here's to hoping America opens its minds and realize that faith and state should NEVER mix.

But prayer has been shown scientifically not to work, but then again so do all the other republican ideas.

Wonderful how a request for prayer can be turned into a political weapon: pray for our open his eyes. This has got to be one of the most cynical uses of prayer ever.

A good prayer would simply be for the President to do good.

Perry however feels the need to pray that the President agree with him as though Perry has all the answers.

And I ask all of you, citizens of the United States of America, to pray that Rick Perry is not elected president. God help us all.

Prayer...Oh yeah, that'll work. If you want credible ideas and action vote Obama and Democrat. If you practice prayer-based republican.
