Perry seeks to put shaky debate performance behind him

Orlando (CNN) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry moved to put an underwhelming debate performance behind him during an address to a convention of Florida Republicans on Friday.

"As conservatives, we know that values and visions matter," Perry told nearly 2,000 Republican activists at the Florida Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando. "It's not who is the slickest candidate or who is the smoothest debater that we need to elect. We need to elect the candidate with the best record and the best vision for our country."

He was making a clear reference to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who attacked Perry repeatedly during Thursday night's GOP presidential debate and won plaudits for his performance.

Perry, on his heels throughout the night, struggled at times to respond.

But with the stage all to himself on Friday, Perry took sharp aim at the Massachusetts health care law implemented by Romney in 2006.

Citing a recent report by the conservative Beacon Hill Institute, Perry said "Romneycare" killed 18,000 jobs in Massachusetts.

"If 'Romneycare' cost Massachusetts 18,000 jobs, just think what it would do to the rest of the country if 'Obamacare' is applied to the rest of this country," he said. "As president I will oppose any big government health care plan that costs jobs and raises the tab on taxpayers."

I say this as a devout Christian. I believe STRONGLY in prayer but Perry using God as a shield for his political ambitions is a BIG sin. God doesn't hold ANYONE harmless for using his name in vain. When he asked for republicans to pray for our president and to "open his eyes" – he went TOO FAR. No one knows what's between God and a person – no one). Obama MIGHT have a much better relationship with God than Perry will ever have and it is totally unChristian behavior to suggest Obama is a "sinner" because he is not doing what Perry considers right. Mark my words on this – Perry is trending on dangerous ground and it's going to consume him. He also lost all credibility with most sincere Christians with that remark. I think it's safe to say turn out the lights the party's over.

He's preaching to the choir, but you put a camera in his face where he has to speak to all americans, then he can't put a sentence together to save his life. Do you think obama and team are watching these debates and preparing; if he thinks Romney was tough he has no idea and is over his head! Obama will tear him apart!

Some advice for Pretty Parry, do not try to pick a battle of the brains with Romney.

    You are woefully unarmed.

And yet again, no mention that Dr. Paul won Fox's own poll asking who won the debate, as well as every single other poll asking the same thing.

Don't you good folk wonder why that might be?

  12. GOP Failed America

Perry is a horrible career politician with no real substance towards solving America's current issues. This was showed during the recent debate. He is full of extreme, right wing rethoric with no new ideas to get our economy fixed. He thinks Social Security is some evil socialist "Pozi Sceme." He balks when presented with evidence on evolution, abstinence education, and climate change, but embraces without question the notion that everyone he’s killed in Texas was 100% guilty. The scientific process, he states is unreliable and unproven, while the state criminal justice system is infallible. Something is morally wrong with this man.

He`s fun to watch now, but people will get tired of him and soon Romney will emerge as the front runner.

He's such an idiot, and doesn't even know it. I can't watch anymore. Same thing with Bachmann. And it will just get worse if Palin jumps in.

What is happening to us that we think people like this are ok in our top spot? I have a theory: the corporations in this country have an agenda, corporate owned media is their tool, and we're the guinea pigs (and most of us don't even know it). It's called propaganda, and it's working its magic throughout this land.

The ex-Gov of LA Roemer and Huntsman are the only 2 sensible mainstream candidate...but have absolutely no shot. They won't even allow Roemer to participate in the debates.

Why don't ALL the Repubican so-called "candidates" put their campaigns behind them? They are non-credible. Not one is a leader. Not one has accomplished anything for the PEOPLE. They are all corporate-bought clueless ignorant rich people who would never or could ever know how to create a REAL job a family could live on. They want to destroy all PEOPLE programs. They hate Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, all regulatory agencies that protect our safety on food, medicine, air, water, air travel, disaster relief, and bank predatory practices on consumers. They are all hypocrites. They scream how they hate the Federal government but every one of them tried to get Federal funding from the first Stimulus project claiming how many jobs it would create in their state – now they all LIE and say they hated it, They scream about border protection and states rights but then hypocritically say the FEDERAL government should do more. These Republicans don't know what they stand for, how they would solve anything, and change positions so many times no one know what they really believe. ALL WE DO KNOW ABOUT THEM ALL IS THAT THEY ARE BOUGHT AND PAID FOR BY CORPORATIONS. Not one is a PEOPLE advocate and therefore NONE are worthy or should be let near ANY public office.

Why would any person able to think, vote republican? The common theme all of the republican hopefuls never fail to screw up, is their ability to lie, and the desire to re-write history. They also depend on the short attention span of the voters.

I mean PLEASE!!! Really. Just WHO is surprised that this neo-idiot had a poor debate performance??!! This is like being surprised when the sun rose in the EAST this morning. A reality check will show that expectations for Perry are so incredibly low, if he wakes up and doesn't put his shorts on backwards, he's had a good day.

Only the dumbest among us would ever vote for this socio-cultural retard. That's exactly why he does so well in what now is the smoldering remnant of the once proud [R] party.
