(CNN) - One week after the release of a controversial book on Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor threatened to sue the book's author for including what her lawyer called a "series of lies and rumors presented as fact."
The book, "The Rogue," by Joe McGinniss, has received widespread attention since McGinniss moved in next door to Palin to begin writing in 2010.
Crown Publishing Group, a division of Random House and publisher of the book, stood by the title and McGinniss.
"We are confident that the reporting in THE ROGUE is solid, reliable, and well-substantiated," said spokesman Stuart Applebaum in an email on Wednesday.
Shortly before the book hit shelves last week, Palin's husband, Todd, lashed out at McGinniss, saying the author had been "relentlessly" stalking his family and filled the book with "lies, innuendo and smears."
In a letter sent to the book's publisher, Crown Publishing Group, Palin's lawyer said Monday both McGinniss and Crown knowingly published false information and "defamed the Palins."
McGinniss has staunchly defended the title.
"Believe me, I'm so sick of Sarah Palin right now, that after this couple (of) weeks is over, I hope to never hear her name again," McGinniss said last week on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight."
McGinniss said that he had originally set out to write a book about Alaska, when Palin was picked as the 2008 vice presidential running mate for Sen. John McCain
"That made her synonymous with Alaska," McGinniss said. "My book about Alaska became a book about Sarah Palin."
The book has received criticism from a number of news outlets, including The New York Times, which said the book "chases caustic, unsubstantiated gossip."
It has also been hit with harsh reviews over its use of anonymous sources for stories about Palin’s past.
But McGinniss stands by the book's accuracy.
"Sarah Palin has lived an outrageous life," McGinniss said on CNN's "American Morning" last week. "All I did was talk to people about it, and they documented it for me. When I was comfortable with the veracity of what I heard, I put it into the book. There were a lot of things that I wasn't comfortable with, that I didn't put them in."

Perry's wife staunchly defends husband, warns against 'polished' GOP pres. candidates
What's funny is that with the displeasure in the current GObP clown car of hopeful candidates, her name being suggested to join the fray has not come up once. Says a lot about her irrelevancy. Yes Snow Snookie, you are history, you betcha! (-; (-;
She wanted to be a celebrity and now she "are" one. She will be suing Levi next. His book apparently is no more complimentary. And she wants to run the country? I have never believed that. She wants to be a celebrity.
Joe's comment is the BEST by far. Brief, to the point and oh so true:
"SHE'S going to sue for lies presented as fact? Hahahahahahahahaha!!!"
Hmmm...what is Palin's stance on frivolous lawsuits?
When someone is a pathological liar they live in their own web of lies. Sarah is one such creature.
Threaten is all the grizzly grifter ever does, actually a suit in court.
We all want to hear how Glen Rice hit the G spot in open court!!!
j"Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor threatened to sue the book's author for including what her lawyer called a "series of LIES AND RUMORS REPRESENTED AS FACT"... That pretty much sums up her bid for Vice President doesn't it?
She won't sue because she knows she can't win; libel/slander laws are very hard to win in the first place, and public figures are essentially exempt from their protection. Instead, she'll do what she always does: bluster loudly about some action she'll take in the future that never actually materializes. It keeps the publicity flowing, and you don't have to run the risk that actual action might bring.
" That makes her a "monstrosity"."
Nah.
What makes her a "monstrosity" is her own self.
I guess that whole support-the-Constitution, freedom-of-speech thing only works one way for the Palins ...
ohhh....poor baby....can't handle the truth. I doubt she'll do anything but spew more hate and threaten – it's what she does best ....oh an DEWAyne-- we LAUGH at the moose mamma. Liberals don't care about her "political views", she's made that very clear. We LAUGH at her because she's a FRAUD and has been one of the most vile, hateful and dispicable person in her hate spewing lies so don't pretend to defend someone of her low character. Go donate some money to poor old failin' palin if that makes you feel better.
Only Palin is allowed to make slanderous remarks about anybody.
Yeah, I too would love to see this go to court!!! I mean, its not every day that Palin's dirty laundry gets aired out in court and on the record.
Her law suite shall certainly make her more popular in national politics.
Make your decision about running for president. Then, make your decision about suing. Then go away you twit.
I hope she does sue so that it al gets to come out with sources and all...for that reason I'll be she doesnt
The money monger is in for it again. Who did sue you Sarah when you said the President is palling around with terrorists?. Was that true Sarah?? Shame on you Ms. bridge to nowhere!
I sincerely hope she does sue. The discovery process would blow the entire lid off her entire career. Let's see how much outrage she can muster under oath during a 3 day deposition...and how well it plays out later when she's proven to have perjured herself.
i don't see the people she supposedly did all of this with standing up and saying its inaccurate.
I am really not a Palin fan but the author did use many more secret sources than what is typically deemed acceptable. He also moved next door to write about her...you may not like her but that is still a little much for an author to do that. They are both attention seekers who are very much alike in that they both suck at their chosen careers.
and I'll huff and I'll puff and blow your house down....what a fraud – I imagine the book has more truth in it than moose wants to admit. Bring it on Caribou Barbie.
What is wrong with all of you? Whats with all the hate? No matter what you feel about her, this book is clearly malicious and slanderous and should not have been printed. Allowing this hate to spread helps no one, and these partisan petty arguments is whats wrong with the party system, not the system itself
@ DEWayne:
Please. If I had a dime for every time I saw a post on the internet questioning the patriotism and humanity of every liberal, Democrat, or anyone that disagrees with the Loony Right, I would be a millionaire within a day. The Right sees any disagreement as more than a lack of patriotism, to them its heresy, and they attack with the verve and joy of any truie believer.
I am waiting for Rep. Giffords to sue Snooki P. over her incitement to violence with the cross hairs directly over Gifford district.
This will actually be fun and interesting. She'd have to go line by line pointing out what were lies. Leaving everything else to be truths. What skeletons will be exposed?
