Palin threatens lawsuit over book

(CNN) - One week after the release of a controversial book on Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor threatened to sue the book's author for including what her lawyer called a "series of lies and rumors presented as fact."

The book, "The Rogue," by Joe McGinniss, has received widespread attention since McGinniss moved in next door to Palin to begin writing in 2010.

Crown Publishing Group, a division of Random House and publisher of the book, stood by the title and McGinniss.

"We are confident that the reporting in THE ROGUE is solid, reliable, and well-substantiated," said spokesman Stuart Applebaum in an email on Wednesday.

Shortly before the book hit shelves last week, Palin's husband, Todd, lashed out at McGinniss, saying the author had been "relentlessly" stalking his family and filled the book with "lies, innuendo and smears."

In a letter sent to the book's publisher, Crown Publishing Group, Palin's lawyer said Monday both McGinniss and Crown knowingly published false information and "defamed the Palins."

McGinniss has staunchly defended the title.

"Believe me, I'm so sick of Sarah Palin right now, that after this couple (of) weeks is over, I hope to never hear her name again," McGinniss said last week on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight."

McGinniss said that he had originally set out to write a book about Alaska, when Palin was picked as the 2008 vice presidential running mate for Sen. John McCain

"That made her synonymous with Alaska," McGinniss said. "My book about Alaska became a book about Sarah Palin."

The book has received criticism from a number of news outlets, including The New York Times, which said the book "chases caustic, unsubstantiated gossip."

It has also been hit with harsh reviews over its use of anonymous sources for stories about Palin’s past.

But McGinniss stands by the book's accuracy.

"Sarah Palin has lived an outrageous life," McGinniss said on CNN's "American Morning" last week. "All I did was talk to people about it, and they documented it for me. When I was comfortable with the veracity of what I heard, I put it into the book. There were a lot of things that I wasn't comfortable with, that I didn't put them in."

Thats what rich people do sue for more. I think every politician is crooked and does things against the law, if I write that in a book, would I be sued by the politicians. Probably not, most would really rather not draw to much attention to themselves considering they all have secrets, question is just how deep are they. I get a kick out of all these people running for public office, they dress up, smile, talk about Jesus, and hope and the next thing you here is them caught saying mother -- or threatening to have someone harmed. I saw a seen on TV where female congressmen were deliberately rubbing their butt up against several male congressmen and they were laughing like heck. If that was done in the military or government workforce the people involved would be fired. Well I am apauled that our elected officals get away with it, not to mention embarrassing my country in front of the world.

She won't file a lawsuit. You can't sure for libel unless they are telling lies. I'm sure Sarah will not want anyone to investigate the contents of this book because then everyone will know the truth. Just more babble coming from Babbling Barbie.

I have applied for a position in one of our governments Death Squads. The pay is good but there are no benefits unless you count re-aligning the crosshairs on the U.S. Map.

While I care little about anything that poor Sarah has to say, I think its discusting that CNN has decided to tie up two of their front page lines with stories of both Sarah Palin as well as her daughters staged bar fight ! When will enough be enough CNN?

This thin-skinned dopey broad might have her bluff called – i hope McGinniss reveals his sources and we find out that everything here is true and then some.

Sue, Sarah! You will lose and just spend some of your ill-gotten money. Where there is so much smoke there is more than a little fire. We only have to look at your success at parenting to come to a reasonable conclusion that the book is likely correct.

The truth hurts but if this goes to court then all the facts will come out into the public. Go ahead and sue so we can all see your dirty laundry!

Either do it or don't...just shut up about it one way or the other.

We all know she won't sue but will simply use this to create another cross to carry around on her back as a victim.

I dont know what she is griping about......heck the entire nation (save the fools that support her lunacy) already knew most all of this about her years ago. She and her family are nothing more then a bottom feeding self promoting crew anyways. What she is really upset about is that this book probably drops her value to nickels right at the time she and her daughter are trying to rack up the bucks.
Get lost Palin. Your a virus.

Palin will NEVER sue for one big reason... she would have to testify under oath about the allegations. And she would get caught in the same perjury trap that Bill Clinton did. She'll bluster and whine about suing for a month or so, then say that she's dropping the suit because she doesn't want to burden her family with a trial. So transparent!

LOL, she just ramped up sales for this book several hundred fold. Her lawsuit will cost SarahPac - who will of course dump their money to stand by their messiah, many thousands of dollars. Her fame teeters on the brink, now overshadowed by the likes of Bachmann and Perry. She had to inject herself into the news cylce somehow or be faced with obscurity for the first time since mid '08.

Maybe she should sue God for having given her such a thin skin. But, seriously, this is TEXTBOOK irony. Palin suing because someone ALLEGEDLY lied about her and her family? Gosh, I suppose she should look out for a similar suit from, well, all of reality since she slanders and libels well, all of reality every time she opens her face hole.

A fact Palin seem to "get"...if you want to be in the public eye you look pretty stupid jumping up to defend yourself everytime someone says any little thing about you. That has been her response since day one and makes her look guilty of the comments.... "I think thou dost protest too much".

Too bad the president doesn't sue her for all the lies and distorted views she tells of him. We can only hope that after his 8 years are up, he'll grow a set and drag her through the courts for a few years.

Really, she's NOT going to sue. Her followers will think she's suing because she talked about it, but she has ZERO grounds.
