(CNN) - One week after the release of a controversial book on Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor threatened to sue the book's author for including what her lawyer called a "series of lies and rumors presented as fact."
The book, "The Rogue," by Joe McGinniss, has received widespread attention since McGinniss moved in next door to Palin to begin writing in 2010.
Crown Publishing Group, a division of Random House and publisher of the book, stood by the title and McGinniss.
"We are confident that the reporting in THE ROGUE is solid, reliable, and well-substantiated," said spokesman Stuart Applebaum in an email on Wednesday.
Shortly before the book hit shelves last week, Palin's husband, Todd, lashed out at McGinniss, saying the author had been "relentlessly" stalking his family and filled the book with "lies, innuendo and smears."
In a letter sent to the book's publisher, Crown Publishing Group, Palin's lawyer said Monday both McGinniss and Crown knowingly published false information and "defamed the Palins."
McGinniss has staunchly defended the title.
"Believe me, I'm so sick of Sarah Palin right now, that after this couple (of) weeks is over, I hope to never hear her name again," McGinniss said last week on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight."
McGinniss said that he had originally set out to write a book about Alaska, when Palin was picked as the 2008 vice presidential running mate for Sen. John McCain
"That made her synonymous with Alaska," McGinniss said. "My book about Alaska became a book about Sarah Palin."
The book has received criticism from a number of news outlets, including The New York Times, which said the book "chases caustic, unsubstantiated gossip."
It has also been hit with harsh reviews over its use of anonymous sources for stories about Palin’s past.
But McGinniss stands by the book's accuracy.
"Sarah Palin has lived an outrageous life," McGinniss said on CNN's "American Morning" last week. "All I did was talk to people about it, and they documented it for me. When I was comfortable with the veracity of what I heard, I put it into the book. There were a lot of things that I wasn't comfortable with, that I didn't put them in."

Sarah Palin has been on the center stage since 2008. Many people have tried to write about her and her life and plans. Not all of them are correct. She also put her family out there and then tried to pull back. There is no going back.
She has made many accusations and statements about others. If you go on the offensive continually you are bound to cause yourself problems. The more she and her husband complain about the book, the more people will want to read it.
The royalties will be high but not for her.
She sure loves to play the victim, Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh
I hope sara gets every dime McGinnis has. He should be put in jail for all the B S hes' told.
Gregory – if you don't believe the lies coming from this lefty media, why are you posting here? Go post on some Righty tighty media outlet
Her rage and sincerity are about as believable as the "bar fight" her role model eldest daughter was in. After watching this train wreck of a family since they burstinto the national spotlight, I've been forced to conclude this is a family that will do anything for attention. Do I know this based upon any contact I've had with their family? No. Do I envy them in any way? Nope. Am I suffering from Palin Fatigue ( without the benefit of Sarah holding high office for 8years)? Yes. Her consistent negatives come from over exposure and exhibitions of pettiness that invite this kind of trashy journalism: do we eat it up?
Look at the number of comments here every time she sends out a Twitter message, and you have your answer. Stop commenting, and CNN will cease to post on her. Sharon Angle, Joe Miller, and Christine O' Donnell no longer appear in the ticker because people chose to ignore them. Take the hint.
Well, she has to show that these statements are untrue? If that is the case, then let's hear the truth!
So, I'm betting that a book about Sarah written by Sarah, would probably have lies and falsehoods. A person's perception of you is their perception Sarah. Just because you don't like it and you don't think the same of yourself doesn't make it NOT TRUE. Face it -there are a LOT more people who dislike you than like you.
In all fairness to Mr. Palin, he wouldn't need to stalk them if he was just going to lie about them.
Sarah doesn't like to work for a living. She quits jobs, and then asks for donations or sues.
Oh, Sarah, please sue this guy. That should take up your time energy to a degree that you can't enter the Republican Presidential Primary. I still worry that you might do this. . . and what a dsservice to the party that would be.
Put up or shut up Palin.
Dont mention it to the teabaggers that she did coke and rode Big Dogs pole, they dont take kindly to those folks.
I'm sure liberals would be perfectly fine if another author wrote a book about Obama full of information that was gathered informally and never fact checked, then published for profit. Of course, they'd be all up in arms, claim that it was all about racism and have it plastered all over CNN. Too bad they will never get over their own hatred and bigotry.
Can't sue for being just plain stupid and ignorant.
All I can say is this book is getting a lot of free advertising
Founders, I hate to call someone 'delusional,' but you've included getting married, giving birth and 'husband owns a boat' on her resume. It's still incredibly thin and flat for a person dreaming of being president. Being ejected from a governorship over ethics violations that she couldn't fight because of a bad ethics law that she wrote herself is the one that killed her future in politics. She wrote a bad law, and wouldn't listen to anyone telling her it was bad until she became its first victim. Did you mean to imply with your quotes on "giving birth" that she didn't actually give birth to those kids? Big difference between giving birth and "giving birth."
She Threatens a lawsuit, Not files a lawsuit, Hmmmmm
She's going to have to prove that the book damaged her in some way. Somebody cancelled a 'rally' or something?
geez. i had hoped, foolishly, that we had heard the last of sarah palin. this is going to take years to sort out. i've got a headache just thinking about it.
I bet Glen Rice never knew what he was in for when he did her all those years ago. And probably wonders why he didn't pass (pun intended).
Trust me. No lawsuit will ever be filed. The first thing that would happen is that they would take Sarah's deposition under oath. She will never allow that to happen!
RIP Damon,
Bad "gist”. (What do you expect from a conservative)? You totally missed the mark. Most of the comments do not say that she cannot sue based on who she is, they simply say that she is hypocritical since she spends a great deal of her time trampling on the truth for political and financial gain. Most comments also suggest that she probably won’t sue, only threaten to sue based on the fact that suing may shed more light in areas sister sarah wants to remain dark.
Even threatening suit tells me how unfit for the Oval Office she is. She should just ignore it Causing a scene just makes everyone want to read the book! In fact, I'm going to Amazon.com right now.
Ms. Palin slept with a black and that ruined her political career.
See, Americans are pretty darned intolerant.
"Keeping it real" would not know the truth if it was about his own family. His opinion on SARAH is laughable!!! He's a great one to talk about bigotry coming from the Democratic side. What a joke. Has he been listening to the Repubs lately Chris McConnell for instance. Apparently not! NUFF SAID!!!!
