Cain: Black community 'brainwashed' into voting for Dems

Washington (CNN) - The one African-American running for the GOP presidential nomination said Wednesday the black community was 'brainwashed' for traditionally siding with liberal politicians.

"African-Americans have been brainwashed into not being open minded, not even considering a conservative point of view," Godfather's Pizza executive Herman Cain said on CNN's "The Situation Room" in an interview airing Wednesday between 5-7 p.m. ET. "I have received some of that same vitriol simply because I am running for the Republican nomination as a conservative. So it's just brainwashing and people not being open minded, pure and simple."

Cain went on to explain that his interactions with African Americans led him to be optimistic about his own chances with the demographic.

"This whole notion that all African-Americans are not going to vote for Obama is not necessarily true," Cain said.

He continued, "I believe a third [of African-Americans] would vote for me, based on my own anecdotal feedback. Not vote for me because I'm black but because of my policies."

Cain also weighed in on the recent chatter surrounding Chris Christie, saying the recent reports the New Jersey governor is reconsidering a run for president were hurting the electorate.

"It's not insulting as much as it is a disservice to the American people," Cain said. "Chris Christie has been saying for a long time he's not interested in running. The media is trying to create a story by sucking Chris Christie into race, just like they made a story by sucking Rick Perry into the race."

Cain said the media should focus on the candidates who have already declared their candidacy to give voters a better idea of the field.

Of course you are correct Mr. Cain. Disregard the typical spewing hatred from the left.

Herman Cain continues promoting the long standing conservative myth that a majority of the voters in the Black Electorate have somehow been brainwashed (Shades of George Romney!) into voting for Democrats. This attack on the intelligence and judgment of Black American voters is a curious position for Mr. Cain to have adopted when he and others who share his views have utterly failed in one election cycle after another to bring members of the Black Electorate over to their side. The problem here is not black voters but the persistent failure of wanna-be leaders like Cain to persuade them that his policy recipes meets their needs. So instead of sucking it up and doing real work among black voters Cain simply repeats the sort of malicious lies about them that white conservatives have uttered for decades. Members of the Black Electorate are not brainwashed. Herman Cain and those who share his views about Black American voters are the ones who are brainwashed.

Why aren't more blacks conservative? I don't know Cain. Perhaps we can use a syllogism to answer that...
No racists are liberals. All racists are conservatives. Therefore voting Democrat is the better bet if you don't want to be lynched.

I admit I have not read all the posts and presumably someone has already mentioned this: How insulting to imply that blacks are unable to think for themselves. That would be a reason not to vote for Mr. Cain, no matter that he has some good ideas. He is blatantly undermining an entire race by saying that they cannot think for themselves. I imagine that many black people voted for Obama because he is black, not because he is a democrat. And I imagine that many blacks would vote for Mr. Cain for the same reason. Just because there are people who cannot understand why he, as a black man, is a Republican doesn't mean they are brainwashed. I have difficulty imagining any really intelligent, thinking person being a Republican. And believe me, I have not been brainwashed.

  5. Its not just the black community, its all poor communities

Its not just blacks that are brainwashed. All poor seem to be affected with this. Instead of being motivated to try their hardest to support themselves and their families, they vote for anyone who promises to increase government benefits even though it pushes our country to the brink of disaster due to overspending. We don't have an unemployment problem, we have an unemployable problem. The company I work for, as well as the companies everyone I know work for, would love to hire people but can't find qualified people. People need to stop being lazy, try harder in school, put more effort into their jobs, stop spending money they don't have on things they don't need.

  6. No Clue

People point out the fact 95% of the black vote went to Obama, and only 45% of the white. But they won't say how probably 25-40% of those white non-Obama voters didn't vote for him because he is black.

It goes both ways. Blacks are no different than any nobody please. We (black) vote in our best interest. It's not the blacks that are brainwashed. Those folks who voted for Bush twice are brainwashed. Look at our country now.

If you ask me, we're better at picking presidents

What, Cain is calling ultra conservatives like himself "open minded"??? Those words can't be used in the same sentence. As far as I'm concerned, all ultra conservatives have been brainwashed themselves. How can any minority open-minded and a conservative? A minority voting for a conservative is like chickens voting for Colonel Sanders as cook. It's against their own interest and is crazy.

It's the Republicans that are not "open minded." This country is built upon diversity and not everyone fits into the boxes that the Republicans think that people should fit in.

Go Cain! Its hard to imagine that all those terrible, white, racist republicans love him. Democrats will never understand. I hope he wins!

Well, he just guaranteed that most people, race notwithstanding, would never vote for him.

The stupidity of his remarks notwithstanding, Herman should check out George "Brainwashed" Romney (yes, Mitt's dad) on how well allegations of cerebral laundering go over with the voting public.

I do not believe that anyone could "brainwash" all of the liberals to vote one way or another. To believe that any race of people chooses their candidate based on "brainwashing" is absurd.

Mr. Cain is trying to get his name out there and like others before him, he is making outlandish statements to get people on his side. Not the best way to run for president but after reading some blogs he has touched a nerve with some people.

  14. Uh Huh

Its not that blacks are brainwashed. Contrary they are smart, they know that the GOP only cares for those making over $250,000 a year. Not many blacks make that. Who would vote for a party that doesnt have their backs Mr. Cain? You certainly would not being GOP.

Cain is a CFR conservative and a traitor to real conservative values as are most Republicans. Conservatives are brainwashed by Fox News and NeoCon talk radio to vote Republican. It's no different or real improvement over the left. They are liars and deceivers. Ron Paul is only one that has any integrity. Cain is a FED guy so he is a Rothschild bagman. Wake up Tea party – you've been had.

"The one African-American running for the GOP presidential nomination"

excuse me but wasn't there just ONE democrat running for president in 2008?

the first blacks voted into congress were all republicans. The "brainwashing" started after the progressive movement and escalated after the 60's. after the 60s the progressives co-opted the black movement away from the freedom they fought for and won during the civil rights movement only to get voluntarily throw themselves back on the liberal plantation.

more and more in the black community are begining to realize this but far to many are doubling down on the liberal oppression.

I love Herman Cain solely for what he stands for. He has integrity and he's independent from the Republican Establishment (The Country Club Rinos). Cain is conservative who offers solutions when he is asked a question and the bonus is that they will not be able to play the race card. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson (The Justice Brothers – Race Baiters) complained in 2008 that Obama was not authentically black because they were not tied into the civil rights movement nor did he have slave blood. Remember that crap well that won't fly with Cain he is the archetype and he's all American baby!
