Cain: Black community 'brainwashed' into voting for Dems

Washington (CNN) - The one African-American running for the GOP presidential nomination said Wednesday the black community was 'brainwashed' for traditionally siding with liberal politicians.

"African-Americans have been brainwashed into not being open minded, not even considering a conservative point of view," Godfather's Pizza executive Herman Cain said on CNN's "The Situation Room" in an interview airing Wednesday between 5-7 p.m. ET. "I have received some of that same vitriol simply because I am running for the Republican nomination as a conservative. So it's just brainwashing and people not being open minded, pure and simple."

Cain went on to explain that his interactions with African Americans led him to be optimistic about his own chances with the demographic.

"This whole notion that all African-Americans are not going to vote for Obama is not necessarily true," Cain said.

He continued, "I believe a third [of African-Americans] would vote for me, based on my own anecdotal feedback. Not vote for me because I'm black but because of my policies."

Cain also weighed in on the recent chatter surrounding Chris Christie, saying the recent reports the New Jersey governor is reconsidering a run for president were hurting the electorate.

"It's not insulting as much as it is a disservice to the American people," Cain said. "Chris Christie has been saying for a long time he's not interested in running. The media is trying to create a story by sucking Chris Christie into race, just like they made a story by sucking Rick Perry into the race."

Cain said the media should focus on the candidates who have already declared their candidacy to give voters a better idea of the field.

  1. it is obvious

Would you all please go back and read the comments. It is pretty obvious the comments are all the same as in a brainwashed group of people. Seriously what have the dems done for the minorities in the last 40 years except keep them brainwahsed that the they are for the public and the big bad reps are for business. How many of you work for a business. Do you want to see Obama destroy the business you work for? Being for business IS being for the people.
I don't expect any of you to admit anything because you are all brainwashed.

Wow. The Obama propaganda machine is lighting this board up. Cain is Obama's worst nightmare. He actually believes blacks can succeed and be self-dependent. Cain empowers.

Okay, so back in the 40s, 50s, and 60s when the "good" Democrats were SUPPORTING minorities and the "Dixiecrats" were defecting to the Republican side because Republicans were in most part AGAINST minorities, we're supposed to believe that never happened according to Herman Cain. Apparently it has always been the Republicans who have loved African-Americans and treated them as equals. All those times that Republicans have filibustered bills supporting Civil Rights was apparently just our imagination. Herman Cain is a complete doofus if you actually think your version of history is correct. My theory is Herman is smart enough to know better, he's just trying to pander to the morons who believe Republican lies. Nobody with an IQ over 100 is buying those lies (those higher than the 100 plateau are just plain evil if they agree with Republicans because they should obviously know better).

Readng these posts from people that claim to be black is hillarious. Mr. Cain is correct and all the hate spewing against him tells me that even the liberals know that he is correct. The blacks that want a hand-out vote D, the blacks that want a hand-up vote R. Funny thing to, I was just driving through the hood the other day and I noticed crowds of black people hanging around reading the newspaper, surfing the web, and sorting through piles of political books. They are al soooo good at thinking for themselves. Oh, and for all you dems who like to create your own history, the actual facts are Lincoln was a Republican and that old dude holding the fire hose in Alabama was a Democrat.

And brilliant work CNN on getting a contrasting view for the article. When a Democrat says that the GOP and the tea party are evil, you make sure to post the GOP response. When the GOP makes untrue comments like Herman's, you only give the GOP viewpoint. Brilliant reporting.

As I'm reading most of these comments it makes me sad to see most people don't know history.

Republicans were the ones who pushed to end slavery – including President Lincoln
Martin Luther King Jr. was a republican
Most of the African American colleges were founded by republicans
The NAACP was founded by a republican.
The KKK was founded by democrats
The southern democrats implemented Jim Crow laws in the south during Reconstruction
Al Gore's father and the majority of the democrats voted against the civil rights act. There were more republicans than democrats that voted against it.
Wilson(dem) resegretated the army and required pictures for all federal employees so they could base hiring on race.
Joseph Hayne Rainey (republican) was the first African American Speaker of the House of Representative (1870-1879). He was born a slave and taught himself how to read and write.
Ulysses S Grant (republican) the KKK Act to try to stop the democratic terrorism but once again they didn't stop.
Robert Byrd (democrat) recruiter and grand kleigal of the KKK.

It is incredibly true ... Blacks and most other minorities (except Asians and Cubans) are brainwashed into voting for Democrats because they think they have been "saved" by them. Even the majority of Jews feel that way. Jews have been ill served by Liberals, and embraced by Conservatives ... but they still "don't get it." The Old South Democrats enslaved Blacks up until modern times, the Republican Lincoln emancipated them .. and they "don't get it". The fact is Conservatives don't give big stupid handouts, while Democrats always give away the store. That's the way it is.

Contrary to the big lie, Republicans supported the Civil Rights Act of 1964 much more than Democrats did. Do the names Sam Ervin, George Wallace, Lester Maddox and Robert Byrd mean anything to you-four of the most racist politicians in our history and all with D's beside their name.

If you want divisive rhetoric and continued dependence on handouts that wont be there in 20 years, stick with the Jesse Jacksons and Barack Obamas of the world.

Mr godfather, i think you are old enough to remember the southern democrats, called dixiecrats and how they fought so hard to keep blacks from voting and voted against every civil rights bill that came before congress. Remember after " PRESIDENT JOHNSON", a real Democrat, signed the civil rights bill into law, what he said about the so called southern democrats. He said the Democrats have lost the south for J generations to come. Do you know what party they belong to now? THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. Why would any African American want to join a group of people that tried to deny them their civil rights. Mr godfather do you think that the republicans and the tea party would nominate A black person to run for president? If you do , you are more uninformed then i thought. .just remember how they treated Mr Steel, they couldn't wait to get him out. And you won't get in.

Why would blacks vote for Democrats when more Dems voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964? Cain might be on to something....

So as long as blacks have been voting for Dems primarily, how far has it gotten them? Time they took Cain's advice and break the mold. Try something different....

Also, when is this country going to start looking at policies (or a lack of) that help All Americans, not just asian, black, white, hispanic (etc) Americans.

ya I remember hearing more than once – it's time we give a black guy a turn (not this si the most qualified guy) – now that's some deep thought there. This is the Presidency not a merry-go-round.

Gee you people sound like a bunch of racists! Funny when the black person is a Democrat – the one who disagrees is a racist. When it's a Republican who's black, however, all bets are off and you can be as racist and critical as you want. You ignorant people need to go get a history book and read who the real racists are. It amazes me everyday that there are still such ignorant followers in this world. The Democrat Party has you all fooled – you fools!

Lets face it you can say what you want but liberals have poisoned the black community with lies.Their policies create dependence and are paid for by others. The black community LOST when the replaced the man in the family for the government. You can thank liberalism for that. The democrats have been shallacked in every election since the Obama administration jammed healthcare down our throats.Real Americans want less govt and a chance to get rich.Liberals want bigger govt which shrinks the private sector. The con is over.Obama NEVER was qualified. It's very apparent now.he has nothing left but his class warfare con.He certainly can't run on his record.People arent buying the BLAME bush game anymore. He had a chance to make his OWN budget but didn't have the balls. He wanted SOCIALIZED medicine which of course is the grand prize for a socialist isn't it? He tried to get energy through cap and trade and his phony global warming climate change con BUT the repugs got in just in time.He did get our auto industry as well..saving his unions while sticking the investors..Isn't he GREAT? 2012 hurry up!

I almost started to give up hope after reading 20 or 30 of these posts from belligerent people who refuse to even consider the validity of Cain's remarks. Throwing bombs like"teabagger" "uncle Tom"etc... just shows you're not capable of having an open mind.

If you dismiss what he said out of hand, then you are just proving his point.

It's unfortunate how deeply the black community seems to believe the lies they've been taught about history. Sen Robert Byrd eas an actual KKK Grand Wizard–longest serving Democrat in Congress–oldest too, I think. But the Republicans are racist? Beyond stupid.

Labelling Republicans as a group as racist, makes you just as bad as someone who discriminates against blacks as a group.

You blacks say you want an even playing field ...well, Cain is about the ONLY one talking about a true playing field ..and that is through is 999 plan, or a push towards the Fair or Flat tax. Everyone pays the same, every corporation pays the same, and everyone pays the same when they make a purchase. WHAT could be any fairer? No more special tax breaks for "the rich," no more unfairness. You people are SO goofy you can't even open your minds to the intelligence of thsi man ...and he is TRULY one of YOU with roots going back to slavery in this country ....not some half white/half black somebody who wasn't even raised in this country as a child!! Wake the HELL up, all of you!!! He's not some elitist like Obama ..he's a self made millionaire! Just put down the race cards for one minute and LISTEN - just TRY it.

I'm African american and he is right we have been brain washed to vote dem all our life most African Americans don't even know history because if they did they wouldn't say the stupid comments I see here. First it was the republicans party that were fighting for African american rights since this country was founded. Most dems in the past were kkk members. Dems were the ones holding up the right for African Americans. To be fair their were some dems that want blacks to be free. But most didn't most African Americans don't know MLK was a register republican. Black people side with dems just bc JFK but the dem party is nothing but white people who smile in you face but when your back is turn they stab you in the back. What we should be know for is being the race that is mostly independent. Thats how we as people can get what we want in this country when they know your independent.

Eight years of Clinton presidency brought the African-America unemployment to lowest levels. Eight years of Bush presidency allowed the businesses to suck the blood out of black communities to push them to lowest standard of living. Now Mr Cain ...does that look like brain-washing .....

I heard Herman Cain interviewed by Dick Morris, and he was brilliant. I hope it's not too late for this country, and I hope there are enough intelligent people left to vote in, someone with his kind of brains and intellect? I sure hope so, for my children and grandchildren. Thank you, Lord, save us.

Wow, some of the liberals on this page really feel threatened by a black conservative. They cannot make their point without bitter name-calling. To them all black people must think a certain way. Lets face it Obama is a very weak divisive leader; 9 to 10 % unemployment (much higher in black communities), a healthcare bill (ObamaCare) that was jammed down the American people (pass with only democratic votes), 5 Trillion in spending (much of which is for special interest, unions, etc), a failed foreign policy, demonstrate a need for change. Class warfare does not bring people together. It might be good politics but it is intellectually dishonest and further divide's us as a country.

How did LIBs get so freaking stupid? It's amazing to see the ignorant spew that pours forth from their frothing mouths. Pure hate and ignorance, 24/7. Keep 'em dumb. Keep 'em dependent. Keep 'em down, so they're always looking for a hand-up. Keep 'em brainwashed into believing that Democrats are "for the little guy". Meanwhile, Reid, Pelosi, Obama, Hillary, Gore, Oprah, and the rest are all living the high life as wards of the bed with big corporate, big Wall Street......and that's what they want you to be also...wards of the state...dependent on THEM. And the drones line up. Yes, we can!
