Cain: Black community 'brainwashed' into voting for Dems

Washington (CNN) - The one African-American running for the GOP presidential nomination said Wednesday the black community was 'brainwashed' for traditionally siding with liberal politicians.

"African-Americans have been brainwashed into not being open minded, not even considering a conservative point of view," Godfather's Pizza executive Herman Cain said on CNN's "The Situation Room" in an interview airing Wednesday between 5-7 p.m. ET. "I have received some of that same vitriol simply because I am running for the Republican nomination as a conservative. So it's just brainwashing and people not being open minded, pure and simple."

Cain went on to explain that his interactions with African Americans led him to be optimistic about his own chances with the demographic.

"This whole notion that all African-Americans are not going to vote for Obama is not necessarily true," Cain said.

He continued, "I believe a third [of African-Americans] would vote for me, based on my own anecdotal feedback. Not vote for me because I'm black but because of my policies."

Cain also weighed in on the recent chatter surrounding Chris Christie, saying the recent reports the New Jersey governor is reconsidering a run for president were hurting the electorate.

"It's not insulting as much as it is a disservice to the American people," Cain said. "Chris Christie has been saying for a long time he's not interested in running. The media is trying to create a story by sucking Chris Christie into race, just like they made a story by sucking Rick Perry into the race."

Cain said the media should focus on the candidates who have already declared their candidacy to give voters a better idea of the field.

Watch The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer weekdays at 4pm to 6pm ET and Saturdays at 6pm ET. For the latest from The Situation Room click here.

Who cares, Cain is not going to win the nomination. I just read poll numbers with Cain in the headline, and he wasn't even the highest ranked in the poll. The media is trying to get support for a candidate that doesn't have a broad enough appeal in the party he's trying to be elected. I just don't see it going much further. After all he was going to call off his campaign before the Florida straw poll. His run for office is just a sideshow in the political circus.

Every policy by our current liberal prez has failed. The proof is in the facts which the liberals just cannot face.
Talk about closed minded bunch of brainwashed deadheads! Oh, but they are so intellectual. Idiots, every one! Proof is in the FACTS!!

    to "ME" -
You got it wrong! IT was the DEMOCRATS who were against the Civil RIghts Act. The Repubs got it passed! LOOK IT UP! Also Sen. Byrd - a Democrat- was a former leader in the KKK. Ted Kennedy -a Democrat – had led the fight AGAINST vouchers for poor minority kids in D.C., even though the black mayor or D.C. was in favor. DId you know any of this?? There's much, much more. Don't take my word for it - you can easily look it up! I'm a teacher. The Dems have run almost all big-city schools and made them a mess. And they refuse to let poor black kids have vouchers to get into a decent school. So these kids are stuck in lousy schools . How's that for Democrats "caring"! They just want the support of unions. Look it up and it may open your eyes!

All of you calling Mr. Cain a variety of names – have you EVER heard him speak? have you EVER been to an actual tea party rally or just BELIEVED WHAT YOU HEARD ON CNN? have you ever thought that most people that LOVE handouts from the government and LOVE government interaction are Democrats? GOD FORBID people actually work hard and not expect people to give them money and subsidies for doing NOTHING – Mr. Cain is CORRECT – people voted for Obama BECAUSE HE WAS BLACK – it had NOTHING to do with policy – WAKE UP and listen to some clarity and another stream of thought – OPEN YOUR MINDS

    "The RNC (Righteous Neanderthal Circus)

That's really weird seeing Cain accusing someone of being brainwashed.
Repubs serve the corporations and Dems serve the public "

Your statements show that you are the one who is most likely brainwashed.
'Repubs for Corps. and Dems for Public' – ??? Seriously?

Could you tow the line any closer? Spitting out dem taglines – and really bad , really old ones at that.
How about you write a whole paragraph composed of your own actual thoughts – and show this board that you are more than just a 'blind follower'.

Just try it. I bet you will be proud of yourself. I'll be proud of you!
    Go America!!

Am I the only one who thinks it's ironic to reduce someone else's entire philosophical perspective to "lack of open-mindedness" and dismiss it outright as such?

Dems do not serve the people. They tout that is their claim! They create dependency in order to secure voters. If liberals/the left/dems cared about the public, then they would teach self sufficiency and give people the tools to improve themselves. It makes no sense to keep the people that are down in a state of dependency. Where is the inspiration to help people help themselves? Oh, I know! Job creators, small business owners, even some big companies that offer great jobs and benefits. Regulating business does not help the public. It helps the Dems keep more people dependent on them. Herman Cain knows this, as do most people with common sense.

I'm sorry... you liberals are hysterical. It's really bewildering to see so many delusional Americans in this country. The educational system and liberal agenda has completely failed you. And you're so brainwashed that you don't even see it. You've become slaves to government and don't even realize it. Game on, useful idiots... game on.

It was amusing to read the vitriol from some of so-called smarter than a tree people here....
I resent the notion that african americans have to be singled out as a group, even the aftrican american should be AMERICAN, there is no italian american, sweedish american, irish american...etc...
The affirmative action and reverse descrimination made things worse in our country. Democrats actually are blacks worst enemy- Obama removed the school vouches in DC after he got elected. We all are going to same schoo;s, why blacks refuse to learn, why there is so much crime in black community(especially black on black) and most of the time there is a murder case- it i a black face on the cover story! Lets be honest-whatever the reason-blacks destroyed so many communities in our country, look what happened to Detroid-once beautiful prosperous city, Bronx – the delipitated buildins, Newark NJ -beautiful new buildings that were built and occupied by blacks were unrecignizable in less that 2 years. I am sick and tired of having to be silent and I will call a spade a spade! Any black who was working in my office was lazy and we couldn't fire him because he was black!!!So, anyone who is asking what was done for blacks in this country-how abpout picking ypurself up and do it for YOURSELF like each one of us did!!!

Look at the liberal rage in the comments section.... Why all the name calling? You sound like teenagers! yet hypocrites. Where are your policies and explanations? I know countless moderate to conservative middle class African Americans and they agree with Cain.

What’s worse is that none of you have a clue as to our real enemies. Libs continue to be sheep herded by the establishment media into fearing a fictional army of hicks. The Tea Party in REALITY scares the establishment because we demand accountability with our treasury. Libs have no clue that the financial overhaul in 2009 gave more power to the crooks at the Fed. Way to go Obama! Our dem banking puppet prez has CONTINUED THE BUSH banking puppetry. This is Cain's biggest flaw, since he used to work for the Federal Reserve. As in 08 with the Obama presidential run, the banks are playing the race card again in 2012 in Cian who used to be on the Board of Governers at the KC Fed.

Ron Paul 2012!! RP recieves more contributions than all other candidates combined, including Obama. Paul is a veteran and wants to repair our armed forces by getting us out of countless wars. I know National Guard memebers who have done three and four tours of duty. The states used to countrol the local National Guard now the Feds (banks & oil companies) do.

From reading some of the comments here, Cain is right. But then LBJ said he would have black people voting Democrat for the next 200 years. I wish people really would learn 1) the history of the Democratic party, 2) the fact Democrats are actually NOT helping minorities as much as they think they are, 3) Republicans are not for corporations anymore than Democrats are, but Republicans believe in people working hard to fulfill their dreams instead of having it handed to them which is what the Democrats do. Given that mentality Democrats are actually dumbing people down more, and making them feel more inept because when you actually see your success that you accomplished without so much help you actually feel more personally confident. Democrats are seeming to believe people are too dumb or incapable to really succeed so tey have to do it for you. That is quite destructive.

When real people pick up the trash in the street, not because it's there job but because it needs to be done, when real people don't get greedy and buy houses and stocks, that they can't afford. When real people listen to them self's then they will see what a self made man is and get off the media's hype, maybe we will prosper,

Republicans think more of blacks than democrats, easily. A Republican will tell a black person, you are good enough, just study hard, work hard, you can be what you want to be. A democrat thinks blacks are stupid and lazy, which is why the democrats are always having stadards lowered for blacks, because they feel blacks can't do anything on their own.

  20. GOP -- Give Others Poverty

Cain doesn't give African-Americans credit for knowing the legacy of GOP policies. Money is the core issue for Republicans and the lip service given to other issues is secondary, pursued only to add issue-specific voting blocs on election day. And issues like poverty and the middle-class' continued decline in income doesn't mean anything to them. Check their rhetoric - anything that promotes, protects or provides the good of our entire society they call socialistic, communistic or liberal. Someday, Cain will realize that as far as the Republican core goes, he's still at the back of the bus.

All politics are local. So ask yourselves, where do I live? Who has represented me and my previous three to four generations in my hometown my home state? If the answer is Democrats, then yes you have been brainwashed. Do you live in the projects, around a lot of violence? Are you raising your children by yourself? Do you have extremely high unemployment in your community? Are your children getting a good education in safe schools? Those horrible racist Republicans and tea partiers want to teach people HOW to fish, so they can catch a marlin, Seems to me the dems just want to keep GIVING out some smelly sardines every month, to ensure votes. So then you would have to ask yourself this question, Am I Brainwashed???

I liked Cain from the start. I am also liking him more and more as he steps-up and makes bold comments like this one. America needs a leader with his moxie. Don't stop, Mr. Cain- you have my vote!

Blacks aren't brainwashed into voting for Democrats, they just don't want to vote for people that wish to do away with SS, MEDICARE, FEMA, the post office, the EPA, the Dept. of Education. Pretty much the same people that if they had their way, and it was the popular thing to do, would bring slavery back in a heartbeat. No blacks aren't brainwashed, they just aren't brain dead!!

African Americans are not brainwashed, but why would they vote against a party that consistently gives large numbers of them fee stuff. In my state they can get free housing, free food, free utilities, free phone, free cable, and the children go to free schools. All, free to them and paid for by the hard work of others.

Wow. The left wing reactionary tilt of these posts is amazing. As an African American friend of mine told me in 2010 – don't tell my wife I voted for the Republican. It is sheer group think and mob mentality. Many of my black friends are more conservative than you can imagine, but they just can't get the anti-republican bias out of their thought process. Face it, the Dems are the party of special interests, from unions, to favored corporations, to socially left groups. That leaves small business and middle America as the primary groups supporting the RNC these days. People should look at the policies, not the hate rhetoric of the left, then decide.
