Cain: Black community 'brainwashed' into voting for Dems

Washington (CNN) - The one African-American running for the GOP presidential nomination said Wednesday the black community was 'brainwashed' for traditionally siding with liberal politicians.

"African-Americans have been brainwashed into not being open minded, not even considering a conservative point of view," Godfather's Pizza executive Herman Cain said on CNN's "The Situation Room" in an interview airing Wednesday between 5-7 p.m. ET. "I have received some of that same vitriol simply because I am running for the Republican nomination as a conservative. So it's just brainwashing and people not being open minded, pure and simple."

Cain went on to explain that his interactions with African Americans led him to be optimistic about his own chances with the demographic.

"This whole notion that all African-Americans are not going to vote for Obama is not necessarily true," Cain said.

He continued, "I believe a third [of African-Americans] would vote for me, based on my own anecdotal feedback. Not vote for me because I'm black but because of my policies."

Cain also weighed in on the recent chatter surrounding Chris Christie, saying the recent reports the New Jersey governor is reconsidering a run for president were hurting the electorate.

"It's not insulting as much as it is a disservice to the American people," Cain said. "Chris Christie has been saying for a long time he's not interested in running. The media is trying to create a story by sucking Chris Christie into race, just like they made a story by sucking Rick Perry into the race."

Cain said the media should focus on the candidates who have already declared their candidacy to give voters a better idea of the field.

Only one party has people suggesting that we should suspend elections and give greater powers to the president to push legislation through.

This is like a mass "Stockholm Syndrome" where the captives take on the beliefs of their captors. It's illogical and sad that many blacks continue to vote Democrat despite generations of abuse, neglect and social engineering that have done them lasting harm. Cain is an optimist, it's worse than he says.

It's like Chappelle's skit about the black Klan member has come to life.

All you uninformed out there, if you actually think the Dems are for the people think again. Where do you think $700 mil taxpayer dollars just went? Oh, to another failing energy company and the #2 person is Pelosi's brother and that $700 mil will only bring in 45 jobs. Oh, ya the Dems are for the public alright!!!!! Mr. Cain is a non-politician who doesn't have a bunch of hidden agenda's like all the others out there. Stop sounding so dumb and get with the program. We have SO much available information at our fingertips and you still sit there listening to only the liberal bias media. BRAINWASHED!!!!!

I think Cain has been brainwashed. Last time I checked with was the religious right and the majority of republicans who fought against equal rights for women and minorities.

Yes, Cain slew his black brother (Obama) that was enabling the economy to move forward. It was Cain that was jealous of his brother's sacrifice. His brother's offering came from the land, whereas, Cain's put forth a blood-offering.

Wow... I keep reading in posts that segregation, jim crow laws and opposing the civil rights act are the history of the republican party. Of course I read this only from people that have no grasp of history.

The working lower middle class whites have been brainwashed by the GOP for years. Inordinate fear of gun control, gay rights and pro-choice stances have driven them to the Republicans. The conservative movement has done nothing but empty their wallets along the way. Lower wages, vanishing fringe benefits and a larger share of the tax burden have been what the Republicans have delivered to America's working poor. I've got your brainwash right here, Herman.

    @ Truth

African-Amercians have been primarily voting for the democratic candidate of decades now. It appears to me that people like you are upset on the way they voted. I've never heard a Republican complain when African-Americans voted in large for Clinton.

Give Me! Give Me! Give Me! Give Me! that is the Lib/Dem mantra, Government is not your cookie Jar, my money I EARN is not yours! Government was set up to protect our boarders, allow us religious freedom, provide a strong protective military and to keep up our infrastructure, not to provide welfare, social programs for the lazy or spend billions on the arts..... Give Me! Give Me! Give Me! Give Me! that is the Lib/Dem mantra, you are not owed anything, learn to get off of your lazy butts and work for your money stop being dependent on government. What a bunch of infants...France would welcome you with open go....PLEASE GO!!

Good boy Kevin, Herman Cain is the Pizza Man. Not a computer scientist from Purdue University who developed fire control systems for ships and fighter planes for the Department of the Navy. Pizza Man, Not Vice President of Pilsbury. Pizza Man, Not President of the National Restaurant Association. Pizza Man. Not Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. Pizza Man. You must marginalize the candidate that is the biggest threat to your "sort of a god" President. That is Herman Cain.

I kinda agree with this but as a democrat, brainwashed or not, i think they are making the best decision.

Cain has it backwards. Stupid white people are being brainwashed into voting for Republicans. Black people are too smart to vote for Republicans.

The GOP has pretty much given up on winning the 2012 election. None of the candidates can beat Obama and it's too late for anyone else to announce (despite them desperately begging Christie to run so there's at least SOMEbody they can vote for with good conscience). They know Obama will beat whoever runs so they're focusing on getting House and Senate seats instead, and looking forward to 2016.

99% of Americans don't know the Democrats gave us Poll Taxes, Jim Crow Laws, segregation, and even the KKK. Don't think you have been brain washed Google "first blank congressmen". You will find 21 black Congressmen and two black Senators in the late 1800's, all Republicans. Lincoln and Martin Luther King were both Republican. Just for fun Google "woodrow wilson and segregation". That evil Democrat segregated government because it was better for the black.

You can get the soap suds out of your brains with the truth.

He is definitely wrong about the brainwashing. My democratic congressman told me so.

I mentioned to some black people at work that George Wallace, block the doorway at U. of Alabama, was a democrat. They laughed at me as if I was joking. Then I mentioned Bull Connor ( dogs and firehoses), Senator Robert Byrd ( former Klan official) and the rest of the segregationists who were democrats. They had no Idea that the civil rights act of 1964 was passed with support of a majority of Republicans despite being opposed by a majority of Democrats. The same with the voter rights act the following year. Brainwashed indeed.

The only brainwashing being done is by Mr. Cain. Why are there so few African Americans in the Republican Party anyway?
Look at the recent history of the GOP and you'll find out.

I guess it should be no surprise that every comment on this site is by a mindless Obamabot. He is speaking to the fact that 99% of blacks vote democrat. How are these policies working for the black community? I would say rather poorly seeing as though the black unemployment rate is double any other groups. And as for the twit who says Libs are for the people? Really pal? How much money has Wall street, big banks, big corporations, big car companies...etc, gotten under this president? How many shady kick back deals have been handed out by this Democrat? The problem is, when you start an addiction to anything, it's hard to break and so many are addicted to welfare. One needs to realize that once a slave to the state, most are slaves for life.

Not brain washed, but bought and not paid for. That's how politicians get our votes these days, The left promises to spend money and make laws to benefit blacks, but the reality is they give the blacks a perception bone and they bite hook line and sinker. Now you can say the same thing about other groups as well,, black, white and brown, gay or straight, union vs. business and it's both parties. Most Americans are stupid enough to be bought and not paid for. We have to stop selling our government.

Cain is right. No race has consistently voted Democrat as much as blacks - 90+% in the past two decades I believe. But if you notice, many successful black business men and women are Republicans. They understand that conservative politics help them in succeeding and fulfilling their dreams, while the liberal politics keep them comfortable as second rate citizens - guaranteeing them more welfare money and "help" from the government.

I believe that the Republicans are more about setting people free, while Democrats are more about keeping them in place.

This is hilarious. Your comments serve to support Mr. Cain's assertion that blacks have been brainwashed over a long period to reject conservative ideas. But, the sad thing is you can't seem to figure that out.
