Washington (CNN) - South Carolina’s Republican presidential primary will be held on Jan. 21 of next year, two GOP sources tell CNN.
South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Chad Connelly will formally announce the date later this morning.
The move is designed to put space between South Carolina and Florida, which bucked national Republican Party rules last week and decided to hold their primary on Jan. 31.
The updated calendar is likely to push the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary even earlier into January as they seek to protect their role as the two leadoff contests in the presidential nominating process.
“Last Friday, a nine-person committee brought chaos to the 2012 calendar,” said South Carolina GOP Chairman Chad Connelly. “Today, South Carolina is making things right. South Carolina Republicans have a thirty year track record of picking the eventual Republican Presidential nominee. We will continue that historic tradition on January 21, 2012.”

Glad to see our government officials are finally tackling the big issues.
You people who have never experienced the NH primary make me laugh.
New Hampshire vets the candidates for the rest of the nation by virtue if REQUIRING true 'retail' politics – real questions from real people who are both savvy and involved in the process.
You cannot win in NH with just clever and endless TV ads as in FL and TX and NY.
So whether you know it not, you wnat NH on that wall, you NEED us on that wall! (apologies to Jack Nicholson)
And before you Marxists (aka Democrat Party) get too comfortable, there is NO WAY you buck the system next cycle after MA0bama is sent packing this time.
Cue the knuckleheads for rebuttal...
Gosh Dems.... if you are really complaining about the GOP nomination procedure then you truly are out of things to complain about. No one cares!
EVERYBODY is chomping at the bit to be the first ones to vote for Obama's replacement! It is a beautiful sight. It is a hopeful sign for our survival.
Breaking news: Iowa had their caucuses yesterday, fred thompson won!
All State primaries should occur the same day. Problem solved.
-Let the states determine the dates for the primary. The dnc and rnc shopuld follow state rules.
Yay! It's a race to the bottom in the republican party!
Seriously. When will we all clue in and put ALL the primaries on the same date? This endless conniving and manouevering for and edge over other states is ridiculous. As if the GOP werent fractous enough already, now the party is breaking up at the state level. I love it.
Endless GOP turmoil = four more years!

The fedral or state governments do not control the political parties. This is NOT Cuba.
Time to make the Iowa and New Hampshire primaries irrelevant. These two states should not have a disapportional influence over the election of a presidential nominee. Cafe and small store politics is over rated. Too much time and money is spent over so few votes.
What a silly little game these rich people are playing with our lives.
That's the same state that ran Alvin Greene as a Democrat for Congress.
It's all about the media getting its hands on all that campaign cash. There is no reason that all primaries should not run on the same day and be over with it. Thanks SCOTUS!
Pretty silly. Florida gets a little full of itself. Now SC can't be outmaneuvered. So here we go with IA and NH moving into December. I suppose there's a local economic benefit, sort of like hosting the Nameless Bowl in early Dec before the BCS games in early Jan. Of course this has political impact.
If the GOP can't even run its own primary process, how are we supposed to let them run the country?
Rotating primaries with one randomly selected state from each of five regions (such as NE, SE, Midwest, Plains/Mountains, West) being the only states allowed in the first three weeks of primaries (1 on the 1st week, 2 each 2nd and 3rd weeks). After which five states a week, one randomly selected from each region, until it is done. Starts on the second week of March and is done well before the convention. Non-electoral college voting areas can choose whenever they want as long as it is in the last five weeks. The will be randomly selected in December before the primaries so we don't have to endure 2 1/2 years of campaigning.
It's too bad it's impossible to have all state primaries on the same day, thus giving everyone an equal voice. Much better to artificially keep the dates separate so state votes are unequal. Disenfranchisement is always the best option! Fight! Fight! Fight!
