Tea Party Express chair accuses president of class warfare

(CNN) - Tea Party Express Chairman Amy Kremer slammed President Obama Thursday for "playing class warfare" with the "millionaire's surtax."

The new tax on those with income over a million dollars a year was introduced by Senate Democrats to pay for the president's American Jobs Act. The President endorsed the measure at his Thursday news conference.

"There are a number of people that have signed these pledges that they're not going to raise taxes and they have no hope of getting it through," Kremer said on CNN's Newsroom.

She described the push as another stimulus that won't work and a way to "blame Republicans."

Instead, Kremer suggested cutting the corporate tax so that businesses can "start to have confidence in the system and go forward and hire people."

And when it comes to compromise, the tea party leader pushed back at the president's claim that the GOP has been reluctant to bargain.

"Republicans have put plan after plan out there and the Democrats say no," she asserted, citing "Cut, Cap and Balance," and House Budget Chair Paul Ryan's plan to overhaul entitlements as evidence.

"It is not Washington's responsibility to create jobs; it's the private sector's responsibility to create jobs, that's where the jobs come from," Kremer said.

Looking ahead to 2012, she named businessman Herman Cain as "the one to watch," though Kremer balked at giving him an out-and-out endorsement.

Her stamp of approval would give any GOP candidate a boost among the sought-after tea party vote.

"Herman Cain is doing a major thing right now," she said. "He's got a lot of momentum, a lot of people like him, he's a straight talker, he's a businessman and that's what people like."

But she also hedged her praise of the conservative radio talk show host who's been rising in national polls.

"I think that the field is still very volatile," Kremer said.

I don't understand. I pay a higher tax rate than a millionaire (on Social Security and a rapidly dwindling retirement acct) and that is not class warfare but asking a millionaire to pay taxes at the same rate I do is????

The middle class has carried the burden of taxes for this country for far too long! Let those people who control 80-90 percent of the wealth in this country help out for a change.

And, of course, as we all know, taxes are at the lowest they have been since the 1950's and the taxes cuts that took place during the Bush years have definitely not increased jobs or middle class income. Don't think another tax cut will do the trick.

The rich have been waging war on the rest of us for years. They aggressively seek government subsidies for their businesses, while the rest of us have to actually compete in the market - and foot the tax bill for their subsidies... They line the pockets of politicians to buy friendly legislation, zoning changes, and permits... They lobby for tax breaks by saying that the extra money they earn will "trickle down" to everyone else, something that has never actually happened. They've forgotten what it's like to be a participant in this society. They think they own the place. TAX THEM. THEY ARE NOT HELPING THIS COUNTRY. They give $1 up front (via paying taxes) and take $4 behind the scenes (see above).

I'm tired of seeing America for sale.

"Tea Party Express Chairman Amy Kremer slammed President Obama Thursday for "playing class warfare" . . ."

Of course she dis. How else is seh going to get her face time on CNN? Just another loud mouth who doesn't have a clue. I've seen the woman interviewed and the bulb is not lit very well. She will not answer a straight question (most likely because she can't) and, like many in the Tea Party circle, only gives answers that go round and round and round. . .

If it isn't Washington's job to create jobs, then why are they all carrying signs asking where the jobs are and blaming the POTUS for not having jobs? You people confuse the hell out of me. You don't know what you want, you just know you want something.

IF... "It is not Washington's responsibility to create jobs"....as the TEA party says, WHY did the GOP campaign on "jobs, jobs, jobs" promises last election????.......so......where are the jobs????
In other words, it ain't your job as an elected representative to create jobs, it's your job to stall until the next election to keep your job....???

It is class warfare! The Tea party is going to die now that America has awakened and realizes that it's the ultra-rich and corporations vs everyone else. That's what the Occupy Wall Street movement is all about. It's about middle-class America finally getting a voice. The Tea Party is becoming transparent now – they are big-business stooges.

Delusional!! Cut corporate taxes so business can go forward. If you cut corporate taxes any more the government will be paying them to be in business. Looks to me like the Tea Party Express is in bed with big business and is not out there for the middle class and the small business man.

obama is trying to revive a slumping presidency with his populist "millionaires tax". he could have done the same thing without such a divisive name and the current timing. can't blame his for trying to win re-election, but i have a feeling he will need to do more than that do win eg. actually create some jobs.

War is coming...the wealthy have run our economy as a one sided piggy bank for too long..and Wall Street is the center of the fraud...this will not end until radical changes come to our economy and our government...one and the same...

Until there is demand no one will hire people to make products that sit on shelves. We cannot cut taxes to get people back to work.
Cain recently said that if people are not rich or do not have a job they have themselves to blame. So then the 9% unemployment is because people are lazy. This means that Obama's policies are not to blame, it is because people are lazy.
Corporations are sitting on a tremendous amount of cash currently and will not hire. Giving them more cash to sit on will not generate more jobs. Giving tax cuts to the wealthy will not generate jobs unless you build high end cars, yachts or other toys of the wealthy. Of course, it could also get you a job if you are a maid or gardener.
Think about these things folks and let's hear what you want to give up when taxes are cut.

Since when does the Tea Party represent the interests of the wealthy? I think millions of you that have been protesting have been taken for fools. The leadership of the "Tea Party" is nothing different from the mainstream GOP right wing.

What else is new? This broad makes a good living from telling people the president is a spy and the PTA is controlled by Muslims. She looks like she'd have voted for Chris Christie.

Class warfare exists because the margin between the wealthy and everyone else continues to grow. But hey.. yachts and private jets are cheaper than they've ever been so everything is fine, right?

And this whole cut, cap, and balance mantra is nonsense while the same people spewing it continue to support the frivolous decade long foreign wars that put us in this mess to begin with.

But what's more foul than class warfare is the amount of make-up caked on this lady's face. Bleh!!

"It is not Washington's responsibility to create jobs; it's the private sector's responsibility to create jobs"

I would love to know where the misbegotten notion that it is the private industry’s purpose to create jobs came from. Show me one corporate charter, one article of incorporation, one company’s mission statement that says it will strive to create jobs. Show me one CEO that is willing to go into a shareholder’s conference and say that they didn’t hit their goal profits because they had to instead hit their target job creation numbers. It is not the purpose of private industry, whether it is big business or a mom and pop store, to create jobs. It is the purpose of business to maximize profit to its owners, which normally directly conflicts with the increase costs of adding more employees.

Conversely, employment is of national importance and should be a national priority. An employee workforce leads to a stronger more stable nation, and if it is not the place of government, and Washington, to promote a stronger and more stable nation then I think we might have a problem.

Is this woman for real?? Is she even awake and alert anymore?? Businesses and CEO's, the so-called "job creators" are NOT using their extra cash to hire anyone... or if they are, those new hires live in Mumbai. She is a perfect indicator of just HOW out of touch the Tea Party and conservative Republicans are. The President is the ONLY one trying to KEEP jobs here... by penalizing those who outsource and rewarding those who create jobs here... and this well-fed TPer has the gall to accuse HIM of "class warfare?" She should be ashamed of herself...
