Biden: GOP 'strong enough to beat us'
(CNN) – As President Barack Obama prepares to take his re-election campaign into high gear, his running mate is acknowledging the formidable contest ahead.
Speaking at the Atlantic Ideas Forum Thursday in Washington, Vice Pres. Joe Biden said Republicans posed a real threat to Obama's reelection prospects.
When asked about the Republican Party's strength, Biden said, "It's strong enough to beat both of us."
"Look, no matter what the circumstance, at the end of the day, the American people right now are in real trouble," Biden continued. "An even larger percentage have stagnant wages. And a significant majority of the American people believe that the country is not moving in the right direction. That is never a good place to be going into re-election, whether it's your fault or not your fault. It's almost sometimes irrelevant."
Biden's remarks came the day before new jobs data showed the unemployment rate remaining at 9.1%.
Biden said ultimately voters will look to the Obama administration's record on the economy as they cast votes.
"What I'm counting on - I'm counting on what I read out there, the judgment of the American people to decide - they know the hole we're in; they know how far we've come out; they're dissatisfied how fast we're going; and they're going to have to choose whether or not the path we have set the country on is the path that we should continue to go or we should go back to 'liberating' the economy," Biden said.
As Obama and Biden continue to push Congress to vote on the president's American Jobs Act, the vice president said a fractured GOP was leading to legislative gridlock.
"This is just Joe Biden's impression, but I truly believe if just Eric Cantor, Joe Biden, Barack Obama and John Boehner were allowed to settle the deal in the room we would have had a deal," Biden said.
He said if the GOP were able to unify, a deal could get hammered out.
"We need a Republican Party that's united," Biden said. "We need a Republican Party you can sit down with and say, 'OK, this is a deal. Can you deliver? Can you deliver on the deal?'"

Of course they can...They should be able to since there are statistically more conservatives than liberals in the country. However, when the new guy/gal doesn't fix this country in a term...Off with their heads!
The only way that the GOP can take back America is through harassing and using the Patriot Act as a means of convicing Americans that have gone against the GOP that such Americans are terrorists or are possibly linked to "lone wolf" operations against America. These groups are the radical right wingers like Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh and others who cannot stand free choice as such free choice takes away from their base of media bullying people into voting for the GOP candidate.
If the GOP were such good candidates name me one that can come away from their offices where their only job is to talk and pick up a tool and effectively preform a job that Americans do on a daily basis.
How can the GOP even relate to the working class of Americans when not a single one of them even have a skilled labor on their resume? The only skill on the GOP's resume is being able to talk alot and figure out ways to streuner Americans out of our money.
People will be hateful enough to try to "one-term" President Obama". Some people will be too lazy to vote. Some people will be disenfranchised by voter obstruction to vote for Obama. Some democrats have been so brainwashed by what they perceive as Obama sellouts that they'll be too lukewarm to vote for Obama (the worse kind). Yeah, Obama could be voted out. Some will say "See, I told you since I didn't get what I wanted, I didn't vote for Obama. Nyah, nyah".
By the way Cheney was a wreckless, arrogant tyrant. Yeah...he was/is, but visible. Hint.

As a result Citizens United we are about to enter an era of permanent Republican rule in America. When America gives the GOP/TEA this mandate by giving them the Presidency and both Houses of Congress their last remaining barrier will be to privatize the Law Enforcement Industry (LIE). The LIE of America will protect them forever.
The simple fact is, the Republicans have not proposed an economic strategy that's any different than what got us into this mess in the first place (i.e. Dereuglate business and lower taxes for the rich). Their strategy caused this mess; why would any sane person think that more of the same would make it better? That's like setting your house on fire and thinking that more fire will make the situation better.

Healthcare – my fees only went up & he exempted so many that it's useless – no wall st. reform – wars/guantanamo – this guy is a puppet liar who told us whatever we wanted to hear to get elected the first time and now it's part 2 – and this joke paradigm that we won't vote republo cuz the it's the worst of two evils – how about we send a message and vote out the Dem who pulled a play from the republo play book and hoodwinked us all – and show that the dems won't take that clap and who cares if a publo wins (it's all theater anyway, each side will follow the playbook of the masters and the exact same policies that effect the world will be in place – as we fritter away with abortion and gays) – if a publo wins the world we'll get to see exactly what 2 modern republo presi's have to offer and the whole party will be over.

It looks like Joe finally took the blinders off and is now reading the handwriting on the wall. He knows now that his and Obama's days are numbered. You can only push people so far before they begin to balk and kick up their heels.
Biden speaks the truth that dare not be spoken: No President is Guaranteed Re-election. With the ultra early campaigning by Republicans, as we get to know them, they hardly engender confidence in any of the alternatives to Obama II.

@Mary all due respect to you but I am part of America and there is going to be no way in H%^( that I will vote for a republican ever! They have not made it easy for this President to pass legislation. They have admitted openly that they want him to fail and if that is the case ( which it seems to be) then they want this country to fail, and that I will not stand for! I will be voting for President Obama because I can at least see that he is trying to get this country back to work unlike the repubs all they care about is making sure that the rich stay that way, rich! No more of the repubs crap! I have an idea that I actually told Eric Cantor, I told him that I have a way of saving money, if they care at all, then they should be the first ones to take a paycut until this country is back on its feet! I never did hear back so I guess he did not like that idea, darn 🙂 I thought it was a good one actually!
The GOP can win next year. People want change even if that means selling the country short and selling out to their own economic interests. The biggest reason government is broken is because of ill-informed voters who often make the wrong choices. It is ill-informed voters who vote against their economic best interests and vote for the GOP, a party who only cares about the ultra rich and big business.

@Julius- 1. Healthcare is not yet into effect 2. Financial reform is done but not to the extent where avg. american believe in. Obama plan is nothing to do with your new healthcare price. Blame the insurance comapany.

How can this be happening to this wonderful country of ours? We have one party in a two party system who wants to give our hard earned Social Security to Wall Street, our hard earned Medicare to private insurance companies, who do not want to help the homeless and hungry, who do not want to make sure we're educated (I guess keeping us dumb keeps us afraid and more able to tow the line). They've tried numerous times to shut down our government, and have put us at the edge of default. They have demonized teachers who make $30,000 a year for what their friends on Wall Street did to the global economy. And this is all just the tip of the iceburg. They have no common decency, no moral code, no honor, no humanity. They've been taken over by the extremists in their party, who are terrorizing the good people of this country. The rich captains of industry pay for ALEC to write the laws that we see passed in our state legislatures, and have funded the extremism known as the tea party. And yet we still vote for them? What is wrong with us? We've truly lost our way. Can we find our way back? That's what I'd like to know.
VP Biden your strategy and take on the 2012 election is a$$ backwards. You must change them immediately for you're not helping the president or the American citizen one iota. You should be placing blame for the bad economy where it belongs, i.e,on the Do-Nothing Republican Party and the actions or non-action of the American Press-Media for promoting news-hype and not identifying truths/lies when they can be easily indentified by any average American citizen. Democrats only lose if Democrats don't get out and vote. We also need to do everything we can to help folks register, especially in those states run by GOP governors who are erecting barriers to keep students, the poor and low-income people from voting.
The GOP is executing a 40-year plan that's coming to its culmination. We saw what they did with the 8 years of Bush (after stealing the election in 2000; it was decided by 5 people on the Supreme Court, the same conservative-type majority that pushed through the Citizens' United case that has resulted in huge amounts of money, a lot of it foreign, influencing our elections).
If you think the GOP is going to roll over, you're nuts! They are motivated by greed and religious zealotry; the only way to beat them is to outnumber them at the polls.
Dems, your vote DOES count in 2012! Your vote is not "just one vote." We have facing us a group of people who have no qualms withholding disaster relief to our citizens; who believe that corporations are people (when's the last time a corporation had a mammogram?); who think that if you don't have money, you don't deserve an education, opportunity, clean air and water, or a civil society in which to live.
Democrats, get out and vote in 2012! Vote for the future: Vote for Obama/Biden and a Democratic House, Senate and local and state legislators.
The GOP can't beat anyone when they are seen for what they are ... but, "big money" can effectively con the people and manipulate public opinion, as we saw in 2000, 2004 and 2010 and then the people are literally used as "pawns" in the game of who has the most money to spend to have their way ... and then, as we have clearly seen, the people pay the very costly price. If we truly want the Republicans / Tea Party to be honestly and responsibly concerned with the real interests of the people, then we must break the hold "big money" has on them and firmly and completely reject what they have become, "puppets" for the few who strongly support them and who "pull their strings" – that can only be achieved in the voting booth.
They can? Yes. Should we let that disaster happen? No way.
I get sick and tired of people blaming the Republicans for all the problems. Obama keeps on saying it's Replicans fault because they control the House.
Let's get the facts straight.
Bill Clinton created the housing bubble. The reason things were going good in Clinton days is because the Republicans controlled Congress. Under Bush we had a 5% unemployment. It all started downhiil when the Democrats conrolled Congress in 2006 (both houses, Senate and Representatives). When Obama took over in 2008 it got worse yet. Congress was controlled by the Democrats, super majority. The Democrats couldn't even pass a budget on time.
Now the House is controlled by the Republicans for only a year and a half, it's now again the Republicans fault. What about the Senate?? The Democrats are good in blaming somebody else, it's never their fault. People in this blog need to face the truth. Give me a break. Obama needs to stop whining and take responsibilty for his action. It's never his fault. Your the President, do something. Get the Democrats in Congress to do something. All we hear is tax the rich, tax the rich. What will happen after you spend the taxes, your going to scream again tax the rich. They are paying over 60% percent of the taxes now. What will happen after they pay 100% of the taxes, what are the Democrats going to do then?? By the way, I'm not rich just a logical retired voter, that has the facts straight. Let's get our blinders off. .
Oh, I forgot one thing in my rant. The Republicans are working hard across this country to make sure we American citizens lose our right to vote. Do they realize they have nothing left to offer the common folks, only the rich ones, and are working the system to make sure they win anyway? Why do we keep voting for them, I ask again?
