(CNN) -– House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Sunday that comments made by Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown about a Democratic rival showed a “disrespect for women.”
Brown made the remarks Thursday, when asked about candidate Elizabeth Warren’s statement that she had “kept her clothes on” while paying for college. Warren was making reference to a nearly nude 1982 Cosmopolitan magazine photo shoot that Brown did to earn money at age 22.
When asked about the comment during a radio interview with WZLX in Boston, Brown said only, "Thank God.”
Pelosi said Sunday on the ABC program “This Week” that the comment was disrespectful.
“The response you just gave, 'Thank God,' really, I thought spoke volumes about how clueless Senator Brown is,” Pelosi said. “It really spoke volumes about, really, disrespect for women that he may not even realize. I bet you he'd like to take that comment back.”
Pelosi acknowledged that the comment was likely meant to be a joke, but maintained that it was still revealing of Brown’s character.
“I hope it's joke-y. And if it is, then hopefully he will take that comment back. But women know. They hear a comment like that, it tells you a lot about somebody,” Pelosi said.
pelosi should 1) mind her own business 2) stop being hypocritical 3) avoid turning molehills to mountains 4) avoid siding with someone whose comments [backfire. 5) stop using double standards as a matter of political convenience, particularly when warren did it first.
was there really a retort he would not have been skewered for? talk about a set up...
tells me that Brown was stupid enough to take the bait
Is pelosi even a woman? How would it know whats disrespectful?
In my opinion, what probably made the comment so disrespectful was the sneering tone in which it was made.
As Brown was willing to display himself as so much "meat" to the readers of Cosmo just for a fast buck, I am left to wonder just what else he, as a politician, is willing to sell for quick money.
Is it me or do most of the people in Congress have ADHD? Instead of focusing on the issues at hand; the economy, jobs, etc., they wonder off course to criticize someone. FOCUS ON YOUR JOB! Fortunately November is near and we can flush part of the political toilet.
I suppose anything goes with politics and war but it still displays the inner qualities of Brown. He should stop running.
Another low-life in politics. We have enough of his kind already.
Let's see..........Warren exposed her juvenile tendencies by making a crack about Brown. Brown demonstrated the same when he cracked back.
Politics as usual. Don't see an issue except this type of behavior from our "leaders" has gotten tiresome. Kindergarteners are more mature than our "leaders."
Pelosi must of had a traumatic flashback....
How dare Pelosi act like she has a female perspective!
Who cares about what Pelosi thinks?
those comments arent as destructive as peolosi's policies..
If Brown was a democrat, Pelosi never would have mentioned it.
It was nothing, get over it Pelosi.
Pelosi just wants to distract Americans from the murderous scandal going on right now 'Fast and Furious'.
It's that time of the year Pelosi, get on your broom and take a hike.
And how much trouble would he be in if he'd said "unfortunately"?
Brown just lost women's votes.
Dems can dish it out, but can't take it.
It's that time of year again, Pelosi, get on your broom and take a hike.
Why are CNN comments always 'awaiting moderation?'
Got Obama's attackwatch paying CNN staff?
Will just post same on Fox, maybe even last place Msnbc,
We are so bad....nobody has a sense of humor anymore.
Don't agree with Pelosi at all and I am a Democrat. Don't see how it is okay for a female to comment about a male doing a photo shoot for Cosmo, but then some people get in an uproar when a male comments on the topic. You would think that of all people politicians should know that if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, but apparently not. Uh, and why did Pelosi have to comment on it anyway, was she jealous that she wasn't brought up in the conversation?
Nice photo shoot by the way, Senator.
it just shows a rightly earned disrespet for the dem party. but dems are stupid enough to beleive this kind of trash is about women. but it isnt, its the disgust america has with both parties. the republicans because they dont listen to "we the people. so i say if a rep dont vote as the majority of his constituants then they should be outright fired and tried for lieing to the american people. and if we are going to cover liers how about the mac daddy of them all( the obamanation )
NOT a Republican however, it sounds like "tit for tat" to me. Warren opened the issue and I'm quite sure Brown was not looking at gender as much as the individual. Had Warren been male, he probably would have made the same comment.. Time to grow up folks!!!
Can we address the real issue please.
in my opinion it was not Warren fault to respond that she keeps her clothes on because she has the BRAIN she is in good shape but also smart ... of course she don't need to be naked to earn money if you have the brain ...and SCOTT BROWN
THINKS HIS GOOD LOOKS WILL MAKE HIM A WINNER ..ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP.
A sign from a sinking ship ?!?! Pelosi, you got bigger fish to fry – like the sinking US economy under your leadership. you go, Scott !! Stick it to the pompous & arrogant Democratic leadership....in Massachusetts AND Washington !!
I see nothimg wrong in Brown's comment. Nancy Pelosi as usual is distorting the truth.r
