(CNN) -– House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Sunday that comments made by Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown about a Democratic rival showed a “disrespect for women.”
Brown made the remarks Thursday, when asked about candidate Elizabeth Warren’s statement that she had “kept her clothes on” while paying for college. Warren was making reference to a nearly nude 1982 Cosmopolitan magazine photo shoot that Brown did to earn money at age 22.
When asked about the comment during a radio interview with WZLX in Boston, Brown said only, "Thank God.”
Pelosi said Sunday on the ABC program “This Week” that the comment was disrespectful.
“The response you just gave, 'Thank God,' really, I thought spoke volumes about how clueless Senator Brown is,” Pelosi said. “It really spoke volumes about, really, disrespect for women that he may not even realize. I bet you he'd like to take that comment back.”
Pelosi acknowledged that the comment was likely meant to be a joke, but maintained that it was still revealing of Brown’s character.
“I hope it's joke-y. And if it is, then hopefully he will take that comment back. But women know. They hear a comment like that, it tells you a lot about somebody,” Pelosi said.
This is what disgusts me about politics today...the Dem candidate took a cheap shot at Brown over something that had nothing to do with politics, he makes a quick (and totally accurate, judging by the picture!) quip back instead of whining about it, and now the candidate and Pelosi are blaming him. Then, instead of everybody seeing the obvious, we wind up with posts here about "frat-boy Teapublicanism" causing the issue. Sorry, Karenne – Scott Brown's politics are about as far from the tea party as you can get.
Everybody has their agenda, and is so busy trying to make everything that happens fit it that they have lost sight of any semblence of reality.
Democrats always dish it out but go running to mama when the serve has been returned.
Not just disrespectful. Plain bad taste, bad education, bad evrything. Where did he go to school? If at all.
He would do better in a mediocre used car outfit.
Well then, why did she take off her clothes?
pelosi is as two fased as it comes. she who lives in a glass house should not throw insults rocks.most unusfull broud i have ever seen.
Scott's remark was an attempt at humor. Pelosi's remark is mean spririted and politically motivated.
If Warren had said 'thank God' about not seeing Brown's naked body, no one would care... nor should they. Comments like Pelosi's just prove how much doublethink there is behind the idea of the 'gender-based double standard.'
Pelosi has been the most disrespectful person in Washington for years. They like to dish it out but get offened and indignant when the table turns. Politicans lie, steal, cheat and insult as part of their daily life. The Prez, Harry and Nancy are professional politicans well skilled at the previous.
Isn't this a classic case of the Pot calling the Kettle black?
Pelosi with doublestandard
Man, Pelosi is the worst whiner out of any Democrat out there. I'm a woman and would have said "Thank God" too! Pelosi continues to make herself look like an idiot day in and day out by making mountains out of molehills.
This is silly. Warren made an ad hominem attack on Brown, and he responded by insulting her back – in a witty and humorous way, I might add. Such insults in politics are distasteful but not something to be outraged about. If Pelosi takes offense to a mild insult directed at someone else (and I suspect she wouldn't have, had Brown not been a Republican male), it's her own fault and she deserves no sympathy.
Hope HER comment about HIM was joke-y. But it wasn't. She can dish it out, but she can't take it? Please. I side with Scott Brown on this one. Women want equal rights? Here's equality. You hit below the belt, you get hit back below the belt.
Boo hoo, keep your clothes on and you will not have to worry about getting criticism for it.
Warren should never have made the comment in the first place. She is the antagonist here. She is ugly for making the comment in the first place. Brown's comment was funny yet true. He was joking just deal with it.
well, sure. It was disgusting. Not just disrespectful. Certainly not the voice of a leader of the people.
Hey, Nancy - goes double, no triple, for you! If Warren's going to make a comment like that, she should expect to get it back in kind. Or is this just more of the double standard for women that you claim to reject?
Rome burns and this is what that Crazy woman from San Fran is worried about....She is no longer relevent
I find the demonic beast that has stuffed itself into a woman-like carcass which we refer to as "nancy pelosi" to be disrespectful to women.
IIt may have been disrespectful to a woman, but not to women. Seriously, are people just sitting around waiting to be offended? Lighten up.
Pelosi is a gash, and should just shut her fat ugly mouth. Gosh, I hope that didn't sound disrespectful.
It's hard to believe that someone with such an unsophisticated and immature mentality is actually a senator. He hasn't matured since he ridiculously posed nude for a magazine. When young women do that, they end up carrying it as a social burden forever....even though they might have done it to "pay for school".
Actually Nancy you're pretty much a disrespect to human kind. If Warren doesn't want such comments, dont take such a cheap shot. Brown had to earn money himself to get through college, he couldn't rely on mommy and daddy.
If she had said the same about him there wouldn't be a story here. I think it was a reasonable humor based response by Brown. I live in MA. I didn't vot for Brown and I don't support republicans but this comment was not disrespectful!
This is clearly a male > female issue, NOT a CORPULENT CHRISIE ISSUE!
Brown really doesn't seem to have much respect for women... he could have opted for the HIGH ROAD – IF he knows what that is – but he went the cheap shot, mean route... and it does say a lot!
