(CNN) -– House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Sunday that comments made by Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown about a Democratic rival showed a “disrespect for women.”
Brown made the remarks Thursday, when asked about candidate Elizabeth Warren’s statement that she had “kept her clothes on” while paying for college. Warren was making reference to a nearly nude 1982 Cosmopolitan magazine photo shoot that Brown did to earn money at age 22.
When asked about the comment during a radio interview with WZLX in Boston, Brown said only, "Thank God.”
Pelosi said Sunday on the ABC program “This Week” that the comment was disrespectful.
“The response you just gave, 'Thank God,' really, I thought spoke volumes about how clueless Senator Brown is,” Pelosi said. “It really spoke volumes about, really, disrespect for women that he may not even realize. I bet you he'd like to take that comment back.”
Pelosi acknowledged that the comment was likely meant to be a joke, but maintained that it was still revealing of Brown’s character.
“I hope it's joke-y. And if it is, then hopefully he will take that comment back. But women know. They hear a comment like that, it tells you a lot about somebody,” Pelosi said.
Pelosi is an affront to all women. Why does she get plastic surgery?
Pelosi should be ashamed of herself. She is the one with the nasty attitude and mouth.
I think that Pelosi's remark was disrespetful to him
and she is the one who should take it back!
Pelosi.....everything out of her mouth is totally worthless, usually wrong, and idiotic.....same this time as well.
"Thank God." Sounds like a witty and funny response. He could have said the same thing about another man. This has nothing to do with "disrespect for women."
Another manufactured controversy.
And how was what she said any less disrespectful of him?
Again, the democrats taking something out of context...he said more than "Thank God"....the quote went on to say something about Thank God she didn't have to take her clothes off, that he couldn't afford to go to Harvard (where she happens to work), and that he would have done anything he had to do to be able to go to school and get his education...not a slam on women..more a comment about he was thankful that everyone didn't have to do things that might appear degrading to some to get ahead in life...and it was the democrats that first attacked him for his ad...and wearing a speedo or bikini is almost naked BTW.
What a joke Pelosi is; Warren asked for it, she should not have opened her mouth if she can't take the comeback. Flipping liberal hypocrites.
Yes, Pelosi would say that. She would never condemn Warren for taking the first shot. Classic Pelosi. It's a wonder she keeps her job.
All of these idiots need to grow up. My God! What does any of this have to do with representing the people of the United States of America, ostensibly, what two of these morons is supposed to be doing, and the other is aspiring, to do.
Sounds like Pelosi is making a mount out of a mole hill. Anyone who judges some buddy by one comment needs to have the head examined by a trained psychologist. Get some therapy Pelosi cause you suck right now. Your integrity is more of a problem then this comment.
He was being funny! Lighten up.
How funny is this. Warren makes a jab at her rival and he makes one back. Now it's about disrespect to women. Why is it so common for those that scream racism, sexism, or gender bias to get air time? Let's all stop being so politically correct and grow up. I'm tired of people taking offense to everything that is said or done. The U.S. has become a laughing stock to the rest of the world because we act like a bunch of toddlers.
Im sorry but if a woman is fat then she needs to wake up and lose weight, not be lied to and told she's a beauty queen.
Bazinga!! sounds like a nice return shot on the part of Brown.
I'm a supporter of Elizabeth Warren, but her comment about Senator Brown not "keeping his clothes on" would seem to be just as sexist as what Rep. Pelosi is charging. Had Warren been the one with a photo shoot and Brown been the one making the "keeping her clothes on" comment he would be crucified in the press; while I don't particularly condone either of the comments made in the exchange, I can't help but point out the rather substantial double standard being applied to Senator Brown. Advancements in the equality of the sexes cannot come by simply reversing the situation. Men and women both need to climb out of the name-calling pit and treat each other with a bit more dignity than what this story reveals.
If your going to take shots like that then have fortitude to take the zingers like an adult when the topic you brought up gets turned around on you. I find it hilarious that the crazy feminists can dish it out in spades but whine like spineless little school girls when it gets turned around on them. Pathetic! I'm normally a left leaning guy but good for you Scott Brown!
Clueless? Clueless about what? Warren opened up the door for retaliation and there's nothing wrong with what Brown did but, SHE makes it a point ridicule. So Sorry Warren, sorry Pelosi. You make personal attacks, you get attacked personally!
Hello?! Even a Woomyn must watch out for low tree branches when she gets up on her high horse. Madame Libby galloped right into that one all by herself. Pelosi speaks volumes (again) about herself. Best regards, all.
Warren, I am a Dem., but you brought up the subject. "If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen!"
most of the so called self righteous politicians reside with whale manure, the off color the statements they claim patriotism and christian values
Who was first disrespectful? Sorry, she deserved it. Pelosi has her own share of stooopid comments
Oh, come on, Nancy, lighten up. Not every woman looks good without clothes, and by the way, too much Botox is not a good thing either, no disrespect for certain Congressional women implied.
Sorry Pelosi, the only one here who offends is you.
I don't agree with Brown's comments, but I believe what he was saying was "Thank God, she didn't make the same mistake I did". It was inappropriate though the way he said, but everything that comes out of Pelosi's mouth is an insult to decency and respectable people.
She took a cheap shot and he hit back. As a woman I am not offened by what he said. It was actually a great come back.
